Hey guys

I can't import my character from ME1 to ME2
When i'm on the import side no characters come up. And I got 2 characters from ME1
I tried to play ME1, but it still doesn't come up :(
Any help?

You need to run the ME2 Configuration utility first.

Start the game and choose Configure instead of Play. When the utility opens, choose Save Games. Click on the 'Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games' button. When the window pops up, navigate to your ME1 save folder. On Windows XP it should be in My Documents->BioWare->Mass Effect->Save. Choose that save folder and click on Okay. It will appear to do nothing, but it actually imports your save data into ME2. Close the utility and start the game. You should now be able to access your old characters.

Hasn't worked for me. I have complete save files but the utility that is supposed to copy them does nothing that I can see. I have made an me2 save to create the paths, and attempted to manually copy them to the proper folder (ME1) and that gets me no where either.

What size are your completed game save files? Maybe I don't have the right ones; they are from a couple years ago. I can't find my ME1 disk to reinstall the game either so I can't check if the files are correct. I've been trying to find a save game editor to confirm they are the right ones but haven't been able to find one.

Worked for me. Thx Eurypterid, you saved me some time :)

Solaries: I think you need to save settings too (after you select your save folder) - it' under Mass Effect 2 -> Save settings (in the same config utility).
About that size, it differs: my smallest save has 71kB and my bigges has 226 kB (endgame save)

having same problem as Solaries, tried saving settings as Johnny Moore suggested still no characters show up in the Mass Efffect import roster(or whatever it is called). I did as Eurypterid instructed as well, My Documents->Bioware->Mass Effect->Save the file was there, I then "Saved Settings" and exited the config in ME2(and made a report too) and started the game went to Import, no characters at all on list I have made two, a male and a female in ME1 they are not showing up in ME2's import roster. out of curiosity, where could I manually paste these in ME2 if I wanted to put them in myself instead of using the utility?

Well, try this.
First of all, I'm not really sure that it'll work, cause it looks like game itself altered ME1 save somehow (cause it created 2 more files out of it, which are nowhere else to be found) to be able to import character from it. But that might be done in "new game" process, so there's still hope...
So...

Locate your ME1 save directory (if you had ME1 installed, it should be in ...Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect/Save/ ) and look for your character file - it should look like "Char_xx-xx.MassEffectSave" (xxx are many numbers). Then copy this file it into your ME2 save directory in new ME1 subdir (so will be placed here: ...Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/Save/ME1/Char_xx-xx.MassEffectSave).

If you're lucky enough, the game might found it (and be albe to use it) during new game process. If not, then I'm sorry and you'll have to wait for some more informed (or smarter) guy.
GL

P.S. Might be also good to finish your ME1 game with desired character again (load last save before ending the game) to create this special file (if you don't have it).
That might imho just do it.

thanks for the info maybe bioware should be a little bit clearer about it. Because I just played Dragon age 2 and I could import my character in the game. Didn't have to do anything just select the right one.
