I'll keep it short and to the point. The last boss was way too far out there... The Mass Effect Universe has been built with so much care and detail and then you throw a over the top end boss at us. Come on...
I loved the rest of the game (except planet resource gathering) so don't take my comments as to mean I didn't love the game, because I loved it.

Totally agree, I felt like the entire game had been perfect...and then A GIANT HUMAN REAPER IS THE FINAL BOSS?
I mean in some respect it's completely awesome (fighting a giant robot monster of any kind is rewarding on its own) but it felt REALLY out of place, it was just too ridiculous to me.
Kind of left me with a sour taste in my mouth, but the game was so good, I have forgiven Bioware.

My main problem is the mechanics of the fight. Bioware has brought us some truly innovative ideas, and the Mass Effect series has been full of serious 'Oh wow, that is so amazing' moments. Even the final fight of ME1 I found great, cyborg frog terminator or not. To me, it was a nasty, unpredictable fight that had me on my toes, paying full attention the entire time.
And how is ME2 ended? Like I said, a screen sized end boss that attacks in an entirely predictable pattern, a completely unoriginal idea that has been seen in thousands of other games.
1 Shoot, 2 Shoot, 3 Shoot, 4 Shoot, 5 Duck behind coverm 6 wait, 7 wait, 8 wait, 9 shoot, 10 shoot, 11 run out grab ammo, 12 wait, 13 shoot collectors, 14 shoot collectors, 15 shoot harbinger, 16 shoot harbinger, 17 wait, 18 boss appears, 19 shoot, 20 shoot, 21 shoot, 22 cover 23 wait 24 wait ...rinse and repeat
Dull, dull, dull, dull and dull. And completely unchallenging. And very disappointing.

My point exactly.

Was another too easy ending though. Especially if you get a chance to take a shot at his stomach.

I'd imagine the same reason Sovereign looked like a Prothean.Missouri Tigers wrote...
I still don't understand why the Reapers/Collectors felt it necessary to actually make it look live a human. If they successful got the people into materials they needed, why did they make it look like a human as a whole? The explanation given doesn't make since, why did they make the choice to have it look human?

That's an effect of the combat system. Cover wasn't in the first one, and this is the first time Shepard could take down a Reaper mano a mano.Legion6115 wrote...
I wasn't bother by its appearance at all. I thought it looked quite awesome. However, I was bothered with the gameplay concerning it. Just didn't feel epic at all. Felt too... weak. Hiding behind obstacles and shooting in intervals was not my idea of an endboss. The appearance and scope of the boss alone was fine, but the boss fight itself was disappointing. Now, running across platforms as the reaper is destroying them, making it more difficult probably would've been a lot better, and making it far stronger.

First time I saw it it made me thing soverign was modeled after a protheon face with all those squid tentacles but then I rembered sovierign was alot older then the protheons. It seems most reapers share the same shape as well, why they would divert this in ME2 needs some splainin imo.
Has anyone here ever watched Farscape? I think the core of the reaper is kinda like Pilot. The external shells look all relatively the same, but the "core" of the reaper looks like what we fought. Just my opinion, though.

Cover was in the first one, but it was so terrible that many, like you and even I, didn't even consider it as part of the experience. But Bioware had something with the Reaper Human destroying the platforms to your right and left, keeping you confined. If they took that a step further and actually made it so you had to run to other platforms before one was destroyed, probably would've been more frantic and fun.

Hah, that's the most basic thing that any good scenario need to have lol Though It might be an overkill xD Reaper idea was great. Human reaper... Well... You can understand that. The ONLY species that managed to kill a true reaper were humans. One human actually. And apparently reapers are ULTIMATE beeing because they integrate with species they conquer, adding more and more things, constantly evolving. We've finally been given an explanation for their doing, why they harvest in the first place. To build more of themselves and to evolve. That's damn good explanation to me!
edit: Ok, one thing that was retarded was the difficoulty level. It was too easy to beat this thing. On the other hand, playing first time on hardcore was too easy. I started second playthrough using same char on Insane difficoulty and I like the game A LOT MORE. Wish I had started it that way. This game KICKS ASS on every difficoulty anyway, and I think the ending was epic too! Though I had the impression that the game was WAY shorter than ME1. Though I played 2 damn whole days to pass it lol Perchaps I expect too much ^^

What I find to be illogical is that the human reaper sits there trying to shoot at you instead of simply destroying the platform you are standing on with his hands. Only after beating him does he destroy the platforms....
Remember he is only a baby, he still needs to attend Reaper school.
