Combat drone - Worth evolving?

My question: Is the explosion feature any good, or does the other evolved version live long enough that the increased damage is useful?

Its great when you need to move cover positions and you need fire taking off you for those needed seconds. Evolved exploding version is fun... but at east 3rd teir is all you need.
The best way to keep it alive is far enough away that it still attacks those around it (or draws their attention) but isn't at point blank range

For when I play my engi shep as soon as I summon a new one the old one is disappearing.
Or does that involve drones from a squadmate as well?

Using Tali and Legion at the same time is fun.
Let loose 3 Drones and micromanage the AI Hacking -- if we're fighting Mech or Geth, we don't even have to fire a shot.

I created an Engineer and I'm not seeing how the drone is worth using. Even at level 3, the drone seems to die before the cooldown is up. Whatever enemy it attacks just demolishes it.
You can control where your drone spawns in many instances. Try deploying the drone behind your enemies so they're forced to turn around or retreat from cover if possible. What difficulty are you playing on? I played my engineer on veteran and it was quite useful and wasn't dying as quickly as yours seems to be.

Does the "Limit is one active drone at a time" have any meaning?

You
can only have one personal drone deployed at time, but you can use your
squadmates drones in conjunction if you're playing with another
engineer in your party.

Attack can take a few extra hits, which can be useful some times. I guess.

neither, they both kind of suck in my opinion.

One thing you should be aware of though, is drone placement. E.g. if you deploy it far from a Scion, its shockwave will rip it apart instantly, but if you deploy it in its face, it will be confused and not shockwave it.
Also, try deploying it next to a heavy... Hilarity ensues as he blows his own face off xD

If you're going to use drones evolved is the way to go. Everything has shields and or armor on the higher levels and being able to eat through them with a spamable attack drone is great.
ok attack drone, ima try him first.
But remember I am not the one using the skill. Is tali and legion. I am a soldier at the moment.

BTW, When your an engineer, try bringing Tali and Legion with you and upgrade all three of your drones to exploding drones (on HC or insanity where they get blown up quick) and flood the enemies with drones. Send yours out first to draw fire (since you can replenish it every 3 seconds) followed by Tali and Legions. Keep all 3 drones on the field as much as possible and you'll have plenty of time to take potshots with incinerate/gun. This is particularly effective if your bonus is dominate, since all three of you can naturally AI Hack as well.
1 dominate and three combat drones = 7 dudes on your team, 4 of them just to draw fire.
3 AI Hacks and three combat drones = 9 dudes on your team, 6 of them just to draw fire.
I love turning enemy turf into my turf with but a few powers.
EDIT: Just noticed dude who revived thread is a soldier. Oh well anyone reading who's playing an engineer should try this. It's a lot of fun.

If your fighing a scion or two with no other baddies, send a combat drone at one and watch as the scion gets stuck in an animation loop, unable to fire. The fact that this works on HC and insanity makes it quite handy for keeping a scion busy while you deal with the other one (collector ship anyone?). If it's an attack drone it will whittle away at it's armor too.

Attack Drone is better against weak enemies, husks, and those who don't attack the drone like praetorians and scions.
Explosive Drone is better against strong enemies like harbinger, rocket troops, and the YMIR mech.

Releasing a drone or using hackings are a great way to keep your squadmates alive as well, pop one off right as you start hearing them grunt/cry out in pain as they are likely getting pummeled.
Also I prefer attack drone evoloution as it will start dealing damage immediately regardless of the enemies defenses. occasionally the explosive drone will start attacking from a distance and it's explosion radius won't quite cut it.
