I lost Jack and Thane on my first run.

Didn't really care that much.

Lost Legion. It took me by surprise. It hurt to watch.

Then I lost Zaeed. Didn't like him my first play through. Still, I felt bad sacrificing him just because I didn't like him.

Lost all my crew but only lost one squad mate. Mordin :( I sent him up the shaft and regrouped with him afterwards, but when he tried to close the doors he got a bullet in the face :P I also kept the reaper station instead of blowing it up. I played a complete paragon through ME1 and did the same in ME2. Now I'm going to replay as a total dweeb bada** :D

Lost nobody, handed the station to TIM but cut ties with Cerberus. The galaxy is my Shepard's plaything now.

Garrus led the two squads. Tali went in the vents. Thane held the position at the door. I took Jacob and Grunt with me most of the way, and Samara created the Biotic field.

I lost Tali, trying to close the doors, leaving me pretty apathetic. She didn't trust me anyway. Legion died on the Normandy, which left me feeling demoralised. Jack died escorting my crew, who survived. I predicted she would die, which is why I sent her. Everyone else lived.

How is it even possible to not loose crew members? Lost Legion, Garrus, Jack, Thane and Tali. I upgraded my ship with everything what I had, but still lost Thane while chrashing around with normandy. And if you decide to not go after your crew at the point the collectors took them, they surely would die in the end, not?

I lost Grunt as the leader of the distraction team. I was so disappointed in losing my big frog that I started the mission over and lost no one. Mission accomplished.

I lost Mordin out of nowhere, restarted the mission, sent him on the escort mission instead, and everyone survived.

Didn't lose anyone on my team, but I didn't send anyone back with the crew so I lost Kelly and Chakwas.

Tips for newbs on how to survive===

Make Jacob leader of second group. Make Legion be your tech guy who unlocks the doors. Make Jack bring you through the swarms. Bring Mordin and Miranda with you. Do all the loyalty missions and upgrade your ship all the way and you'll smash through it like it was nothing.

That's not spoilers right? You guys already beat the game. I'm just telling you how NOT to suck at the end.

No one died in my group and it made me happy. It also made everyone else happy because they didn't die....

There's a thread somewhere about who can fill roles.

Leader was Garrus, Miranda, and Jacob (I think)
Tech was Legion, Tali
Bubble was Samara/Morinth, Jack

And I personally recommend either sending Mordin as the escort or taking him with you for the fight.  Him and Legion seem to be wild cards.

I'm not going to change it or cheat it. In a way, I think it's good from an RP point of view that some people were lost. Especially the ones that were, as all three of them were important in my character's life.

I expect more to die in my next play through. My paragon will not budge on personal missions.

On my first run, I lost Zaeed and most of my crew (because I didn't know of the mission-limit trigger after the IFF). Man, Chakwas and Joker were PO'd, and I felt horribly guilty over losing all those people AND Zaeed. Needless to say, I redid things all the way from the IFF and tried again. The second time I saved my squad AND the entire crew. Whew - I was relieved after that (poor Lilith, that colonist though...).

I didn't lost anyone on my team, but I didn't lose my crew. I still have plenty of time to run an NG+ and save them before ME3 comes out.

Aahh this part was fun (spent most of the time reviewing my squads abilities and experience for ten minutes before deciding.)

Legion was my Shaft/Tech runner and he got the door opened and closed no problem. (Geth=Master of Hacking and Tech due to his thousand or so programs able to hack through firewalls)

Garrus led my Second team and Distraction team. (He has Turian command training, C-sec exp, Your freaking ME1 time of hell to learn from. Then finally had his own team that he lead through the lawless Omega, Good credentials! Miranda didn't seem to have enough experience leading mixed groups to me.)

Thane got all the crew off the ship intact. (Trust an assassian that likes to kill things up close to lead well, He seemed most likely to keep his head on straight and be able to fight straight through.)

And Biotic Barrier was Jack. (stronger than Samara and too damn stubborn to give up after having spent all that time not killing something.)

Loyalty's and upgrades maxed out of course and every damn person made it! (except on second play through, Mordin is indeed a wild card.)

my first playthrough i lost grunt. wasnt that big a deal imo since i didnt really connect with grunt as a character. dont get me wrong, grunt is interesting, and his story is pretty good, but, i just didnt connect at the same level as say tali or garrus.

second time around, lost no one.

Everyone in my squad survived on my first playthrough. It's nothing to write home about. I knew beforehand that it’s possible to not lose anyone (Damn you, No One Left Behind achievement!) so I did my preparations and made logical choices during the last mission. That being said, I guess it would've been more interesting if I suffered a few casualties along the way. Having everyone alive after the mission is predictable. Watching squad mates die at certain points is not.

Lost my crew though. I took it pretty hard when I saw that grisly blender scene. Didn’t last long though since I found out soon enough that it’s completely preventable. Now, I’m like, whatevs I’ll save them in another playthrough.

I saved everyone except Kelly. Didnt realise there was a mission limit.

Picking who would go in the shaft to open the doors the only logical conclussion i could come to was Legion. He can fight, can sneak and can use tech like nobody else.

Garrus was the best choice to lead the other squads considering he was in the turian military and lead his own group of renegades.

Jacob to do the escort back to the ship and Samara to hold up the biotic field because she has hundreds of years of honing her biotics.

Took Miranda and Grunt with me the whole time. Grunt was invaluable he even finished off the final boss while i was reloading.

Tali, Miranda and Mordin. My character wasn't affected that much. He'd remained faithful to Liara.

It tore me up — badly — to lose Tali. I had all the ship upgrades, most of the others and had every intention of getting the rest of the tech upgrades, but was caught by surprise by the tracker in the IFF. I felt obligated to save my crew, so went immediately without getting the rest of the upgrades. I had the loyalty of everybody except the merc, since I refused to let civilians burn.

I knew going in that I'd lose some people in my haste, but losing Tali hit me much harder than the other two. She'd been with me since ME1. She was my favorite team-mate in ME1 because her tech ability could unlock anything. You never lack for money nor omnigel in ME1 with Tali with you.

Much more than that, though, she was brave, skilled and the most unselfish character in the whole game. She impressed me the first time I played ME1, when she agrees to put her pilgrimage on hold. The purpose of the pilgrimage, she said, is to prove you can put the interests of others before your own. What would it say about her if she turned her back on this?

Finally, she was the youngest of the players. She's 24 years old in this game, I read somewhere.

I have three daughters. The oldest will be 24 in March.

Yeah, it hit me very, very hard.

I got the survival rate down to a science, but I intentionally had Zaeed die while distracting the Collectors. Its not that I hated him, I just didn't think he'd be back in the sequel either way.
