Ok, this is probally gonna sound really wierd and when i say Romance i dont mean said scene with whichever companoin you choose i mean the working up to it and the dialouge.

Like my character said to Lelaina "Im a terrible romantic" now i dont know what its like with the other companoins as this is my first playthrough, but i  chose to "Romance" Lelaina, and in all honesty as i went through the dialouge with her i grew more and more attached to her as a character and even found myself going out my way to defend her in combat as she is the team's archer. For some reason i found alot of the dialouge in the game wheather it was me or Lelaina saying it i found it quite... Sweet and charming and prehaps a couple of lines where cheesy but still nice, and i really felt the companoins feelings really grew towards the PC over the course of the game.

All in all to me it all actualy felt quite romantic for dialouge so i tip my hat to Bioware for achieving that in a game, and for people who say "uh whats wrong with you its a game" first of it's called imagination after all they are people granted they are in a game but they are representing people with real emotions which can relate to real life so i dont see the problem if that made sense lol, So did the romance do anything for you? or was it just the road to achievment/s im just wandering if anyon felt the same way as me, probally not lol

I probally forgot somthing in there if i remember i'll edit

I think the romances in DA:O was lacking a bit, i've played other games with better romances(and longer), but those games focused on it a lot though.

The series Harvest Moon have some very well-done romances which i've always loved the games for.

The romances in this game was okay, it had it's moments but they were simply to easy to accomplish.

The romance was a very important part of the game for me. The difference between DA being a good game and great game. I was equally engaged in persueing Morrigan as I was in defeating the darkspawn. Seeing her slowly warm up to my PC was somehow exciting and giving Allistar pep talks was also very rewarding. It brings a human element to the game that isn't normally there. Its silly... I've never based a decision in a game on whether or not I thought it would upset a NPC's feelings before... or maybe its that I just didn't care before. DA did an awesome job with this and I hope other games follow suit.

I loved the romance, Alistar was sweet and funny and I became so attached to him that I really struggle to romance any of the other characters in game. The conversation seems natural, of course I always want more dialogue but i really do think there was a lot there. Would love to see how it crosses into the expansion but don't wanna get my hopes up.

I thought the romances were done amazingly in the game. The dialogue choices leading up to them are done very well to make you feel as though you are courting these people. Though to be honest, the only one that had any emotional effect on me was my first run-through in which I wanted to romance Morrigan, because she was the only one I really cared to have a romance with. And because of that, the end game really pissed me off (in a good way for a game). I wanted that emotional connection with her, I got it and the game did it well, so it felt real, then at the end I felt betrayed in multiple ways. SPOILER WARNING.............

....Not only did the romance end abruptly, but she also wasn't there by my side for the final battle. I was pretty bitter because of these things. This is the first game that I actually cared at all about something like that in well over 20 years of being a gamer. Uncharted 2 was similar, but in that I felt more like I was just watching a movie play out. I had no real emotional connection to either girl in that.

All the other romances I really just went for to get the trophies. Though I could easily picture the romance with Lilianna touching people in the same way if that is the character they wanted the emotional contection with.

I think Alister's romance was the most natureesque.

The romance was totally addictive. I did them all (still working on Alistair though, he's on hold until ME2 is done).

I think Bioware hasn't done a better job since BGII until now. Morrigan was the hardest to keep going I think, Liliana was kind of boring (although, I applaud Bioware for making the bisexual character girly and not ****ty) but I like her girly dialogue with Morrigan and Shale. Zev was too easy since he was already rearing to go. Allister's dialogue was done really well though. He plays the "nerdy hero" but the actor does Allister in a sincere way.

I could have done with out the awkward love scene though. The music was awful and it went on waaaay too long. They really took a couple steps backwards from Mass Effect.

I've enjoyed all the romances so far. I've completed them with Alistair and Leliana and working on Zevran. (Haven't made a male character yet that I'm satisfied with to play him and romance Morrigan.)

Alistair was my pick when I played the game without knowing anything of the story, and I was very sad to find out how things turned out in the end for my character and him. I made some bad choices, but I didn't expect to find myself so upset about losing him...

Only thing I found slightly disappointing is that once you have "completed" the romance as in had sex, done the companion quests etc. there isn't anything else to do. I would have wanted to have more dialogue with my love interest, in fact I would have liked to talk with him/her about my past, feelings, worries... But then again I had Wynne for that. I really enjoyed the discussions about being a Grey Warden etc. with her. She was my Warden's moral pillar and always there to listen when I was feeling blue. :P

I always enjoy the romance lines in games - it helps to get you more invested with the story and the characters involved.

As you say, though, I wish there had been more to talk about after you consummate your relationship ... but then, no matter how much dialog the characters had I would always be wishing for more.

Yeah, that's the main thing that disappointed me too.  Once you passed the "sex." stage(at least with Leliana) I found you spent more time talking to Wynne about your relationship than the actual love interest.  It was like, "Hey, we've had sex now.  Nothing more to see here!" which given the build up was a bit of a let down.  Of course that may have had more to do with my choices.

A little more change in the manner/expression/comments of the supposedly in love npc during things like cutscenes, some more dialogues after the achievement, maybe even an extra companion quest that is only available at that stage of the relationship would be cool.  Little things that make it seem more like the romance actually had/has an impact on the story/game/NPC.  For example: the changes in the things they say when you select them in combat/exploration,  things like that(and bigger ones too) help keep you motivated to replay and try different paths, which will keep people replaying the game and make them, or myself at least, more likely to shell out for things like DLC quests and whatnot. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

I really like the Alistair romance. I absolutely adore the Zevran romance. It's the reason I have played the game through so many times. I do agree with Dubidox it would be nice for them to be fleshed out a little more, but all in all, I'm happy that they're there.

I am still going in my first time through - and I am totally in love with Alistair. He is even my wallpaper on my comp. I just like to kiss him for no reason - I am such a sad, sad person to find love through a video game... ROTFLMAO

The romances were wonderful, I think. You could pace them and the characters, at least the males, for me, were ever so delicious and irresistable.

I'll admit, the romance is what hooked me on this game. I'd started playing it on a friend's recommendation, and since I knew it was narrative heavy, I didn't read anything about the game at all. So, the romance with Alistair really snuck up on me! It was like suddenly actually being the heroine in a romance novel. But, yes, a bit more bittersweet than said novels are.

And whilst I'd never admit publicly that I had a severe crush on a cartoon character, there it is. It was like being 16 again and watching the Titanic (waaaaaaaa!!!!!!).

While I love Zev's romance,Alistair's is absolutely adorable. The game's story and lore had me hooked from the start, but the romance was what made the game deeply engaging--for me,anyway.

Well I greatly enjoyed my first PC's romance - Morrigan. Needless to say, that tower of happiness came crashing down at the end of the game, inspiring some of the most rage-induced darkspawn slaughter the world has ever seen. The end to this particular romance in its current state, undoes all the groundwork the player has done throughout the game. But I digress and have written on this at length elsewhere.

My city elf is currently enjoying the Leliana romance, which is quite well done and seems to promise a nice outcome. A romance is always something to look forward to in a BioWare title, as it ties in nicely as a sub-plot during the main story thread. Some particular elements I liked were Morrigan's ring being mentioned when the Warden is captured - attention to small optional details like that always impresses me - if the romance subplot can actively tie in with the main game it makes the whole thing more believable and fulfilling. Still need to get around to Alistair + Zev in a future playthrough.

Maybe sex doesn't affect some relationships in game world any more than they do in real world.   What I would've expected (in Morrigan's case at least) is not to suddenly have the opportunity close off to me.  I mean, I'm a manly sort of arcane warrior she clearly finds attractive, we're both covered in blight blood at the end of a hard day, make me a damned sammich and prepare yourself to be rocked, dammit!

Also, on the note of Morrigan, I know many people really dislike her , ahem, attitude.  But I think Bioware has crafted a damned good character with emotional depth, realistic emotional influences (a somewhat harsh upbringing resulting in equally harsh emotional adaptations) and just the right blend of hope, desperation,  attraction, and loss to make romancing her an engaging feat.  Or maybe she just reminds me of my damned girlfriend from high-school *curses*

I know the Zevran romance doesn't end at the sex -- it really starts off there, and ends at the love bit, which happens far later in the game.

I love all the characters. They each have their flaws, but my favorite to romance is Zevran. He's got such a wonderful story and it all comes out as you get closer and closer to him. But at the same time I hate turning Alistair down for Zevran. Damn you Bioware for making me choose...I want my cake and eat it too! (even though the cake is a lie!) *angry fist*

Knowing both the romances the way I do, I have no problem choosing Zevran.  However, Alistair IS compelling.  It's nice you can finish his romance first, get all the squee, then dump him for Zev, and get even MORE (and IMO better) squee. <3
