Pfft, Leliana is adorable. And her character has a lot of depth. You think she's the guileless good girl and then discover the truth. It makes her a well-rounded character.
yeah, I know people are thinking I meant the double-entendre. I didn't. But I won't retract it.

Zevran was cool, and an easy rebound after the Alistair dump.
Morrigan was great, and even now I find myself paraphrasing her "pick up line" when I have to go out in the snow...
Leliana, however, I truly respect, and I find that I miss her when I don't talk to her for a while. Which then makes me feel all awkward, but the depth of the characters was such that it was easy to love, like, or hate them.

As for Zevran, his achievement (Easy Lover) says it all. He'll do it if asked at about 25 approval. Pushover.

I prefer Zevran, because it's quite deep, and the way it's played out, it will not complete until far later in the game. My PC usually breaks up with Alistair, and it helps that he seems a bit relieved about it, because I've always managed to do so without any approval loss. Breaking up with Zevran when he is in love is heartbreaking. The VA and the animations are superb. I always feel like a dirty, people-using piece of heartless garbage that deserves to have her knee-caps broken and made to kneel in dung. For a pixel character. Imagine that!
For the first time, I'm not vastly disappointed about the romances for female PCs, and I think I can finally put my disappointment about Anomen, Casavir, and their ilk behind me. I think I am also finally starting to forgive you know who for Haer Dae'lis Yes, I was still bitter about that up until now.

I do agree however that there should be more things you can do with your lover... Instead of asking them to come to the tent with you it would be nice to pick the option of sitting by the campfire or giving her the best piece of meat or the cherry of your desert... things like that!
So far I have one character that romanced Morrigan and he went to look for her in the end which I found quite a romantic option and another character romanced Leliana and they went off to travel the world together which was quite a romantic option as well... My favorite is still Morrigan because I love the way she acts all tough but lets her soft side show whenever you catch her off guard.
The only time I can remember any character romance coming close (and even that is intended as closest but still at a huge distance away) was the romancing of Aribeth in Neverwinter Nights, I just hope that with Morrigan they won't pull another Aribeth on me, then again I'm sure my character wouldn't think twice about entering hell just to bring her back either!

I am still going in my first time through - and I am totally in love with Alistair. He is even my wallpaper on my comp. I just like to kiss him for no reason - I am such a sad, sad person to find love through a video game... ROTFLMAO
You're definately not the only one, I have a Morrigan wallpaper on my pc and often find myself staring at it while studying... *Waves at the guys in white coats walking up to his house*

I tried! Ahaha, there is one bit where if your a female you can ask Sten if he is flirting with you? He repiles he doesn't know what 'flirting' means and asks you to speak in the common tounge. *lols* Morrigan certainly tries as well...

I haven't ever figured out how to get Morrigan to even LOOK at my male PC..... True, I can give her gifts, and get her approval up there, but.....
I got her into a romance one time when I thought I was actually mocking her, now I'm stuck in some kind of twisted hate-romance with her approval being around -20 without being able to dump her. Makes me want to stomp her face repeatedly until it stops being funny

I do that all the time. I usually load when she's knocked out and I regularly let other party members die just to save her <3

First off for Male player characters there needs to be a female dwarven and elven companion with a romance option. Not everyone wants Morrigan or Leliana...
I completely agree. I was really hoping to romance a dwarven woman at some point in the game. I don't think every romantic option has to be as beautiful and perfect as Morrigan and Leliana. A cute, stout, dwarven lass would have been mighty fine with me.
Also, on my original playthrough I wanted a romance option with Wynne. She looks like a very attractive older woman and I was surprised there was no romance option. After playing the game much longer though, while her looks say she is maybe 50, her personality says she is 150. I, for one would like more variety in my romance options and not only characters that look as perfect as Morrigan. /swoon

Me too! That's good to know...now I don't feel like such a sap.
I find myself routinely disengaging from elite and higher enemies to go back and shield pummel/overpower/shield bash/assault (and then stomp into the ground) bad guys who are trying to gang attack Leliana. She helps me of course, since I have her set to execute "dirty fighting" when surrounded. I pretty much have my way with them while they're stunned and she can back away.
Evidently I'm not the only one who feels the need to protect her. I know...I'm pretty pathetic.

I don't try to protect her, though. I gave her a 180 into melee; she'd better start protecting me.

I'm glad to hear that male players like the female leads, as well. Personally I thought hetero guys kind of got the shaft in this game. I mean, Morrigan is going to take off and be gone, and Leliana obviously prefers women if she has a choice. I also don't care for her personality and leave her in camp most of the time. So I haven't rolled a male PC, especially as I prefer playing females anyway. It's just great that I can do that and play a satisfying game with a female character, to where it doesn't feel like an afterthought to be able to play a female.

Maybe sex doesn't affect some relationships in game world any more than they do in real world. What I would've expected (in Morrigan's case at least) is not to suddenly have the opportunity close off to me. I mean, I'm a manly sort of arcane warrior she clearly finds attractive, we're both covered in blight blood at the end of a hard day, make me a damned sammich and prepare yourself to be rocked, dammit!
Also, on the note of Morrigan, I know many people really dislike her , ahem, attitude. But I think Bioware has crafted a damned good character with emotional depth, realistic emotional influences (a somewhat harsh upbringing resulting in equally harsh emotional adaptations) and just the right blend of hope, desperation, attraction, and loss to make romancing her an engaging feat. Or maybe she just reminds me of my damned girlfriend from high-school *curses*
STALKER! How did I know you'd show up in here with some machismo laden comment.
I thought Morrigan's character was really well done too. Her reaction to this guy's budding relationship with Leliana was well done and unexpected.(I accidentally clicked on her while running around in Orzammar) I actually like Morrigan's character better in many ways, but as far as a love interest I'm a sucker for mysterious damsels in distress. Red hair, fair skin, and the ability to turn darkspawn into pin-cushions doesn't hurt either.

We may be only glad to have them... even if they're a little short.. I believe some years ago it was unthinkable we would be able to see such a sex-scene into a mass-popular game.. Now they broke the ice we may wait for more longer and well done sex-scenes in future games

well i'll admit im a guy, and mostly play Female PC's, did it in oblivion, did it in fallout, did it in KoTOR just whenever the gender option comes up i always choose female, i just never have any desire to play male's dont know why, and with even though im using a female PC i romanced Leliana (not for reasons some might think im not a 13 year old kid ) purley because romancing the blokes, well i just didnt want to do it, but either way you should talk to Leliana she's got an amazingly deep carachter i think and th romance is so sweet and charming, you should try it, im sure i'll do the other romance's at some point, for the achiecvments though but i'll always go back to her ive grown affectionate for her even though she's a video game characterand the romance's with her will always mean somthing unlike the others lol

Meh it can't be as bad as the Leliana/Fem sex scene... that thing is a joke...
If it wasn't for the snuggle talk afterward I probably would have been very angry at the amount of "effort" they put into make it somewhat different then the straight sex. Seriously

Personally, I'm fine with the sex scenes the way they are. They're done in a way that allows the greatest possible number of people to appreciate that their characters have found some intimacy and happiness in a terrible time. Everyone has a different place where they draw the line between romance and porn. This steers well clear of that line for almost everyone that could be playing the game, making it accessible to a greater number. If it had nudity and graphic sex, that wouldn't be the case, and for each person that thought that was a good thing, there would be another who was offended. People who want that sort of thing added can always make use of mods, but it wouldn't be a smart choice from a developer point of view.
Mm yeah, I tried the Better Sex Cutscenes, decided I didn't like them, and uninstalled them. Decided I should try them again, realized I still didn't like them, and uninstalled them again. The original cutscenes are short, and very censored, but I like the fact they don't feel as "porny" as the extended versions. Also, BSC has some reallllly awkward facial expressions, just saying. I'm glad the game handled the scenes the way it did, and I'm glad the mods are available for those who want them.
I think the balance of the romances overall was very well done. They became a much larger part of the story than I expected while not overtaking it. And they give enough great dialogue/intimate moments to make you feel connected to the characters while still leaving room for interpretation. I'm really excited to see if there are more romances in Awakening (*sigh* Anders
