You can actually compare Sovereign and Harbinger directly to to other characters in the game:

No competition whatsoever. Sovereign had a god-like presence from the moment you saw it departing from Eden Prime. And when you finally come 'face to face' with it, it exudes an aura of terror. An absolute genius character, in my opinion.



Harbinger won't make a real impact until 3, presumably.

Sovereign absolutely own Harbinger in every way. Tone of voice, inflection, grammar and punctuation.

It was very mechanical, and instilled a sense of inferiority in you. I love the encounter with Sov in ME1.

Good points, all.  I agree.  Sovereign is superior in every way, and not least because his language and detachment make you feel inferior.  Harbinger has a vested interest in getting revenge...a bit too base an emotion for such an enigmatic 'race' of beings. 

We learn at the end of ME2 that a Reaper is the gestalt consciousness of an entire civilization.  Not only did Shepard kill an omnipotent machine god, but also committed genocide.  If what, admittedly scant, information Harbinger gives you is accurate, and they think they're doing organic life a favour, then they may feel perfectly justified in despising Shepard.  I actually like the idea that these big space leviathans have their enormous glowy flashlight eyes fixed on one insignificant human.  I liked how, at the end of the Sovereign conversation in ME1, Joker tells you that Sovereign has turned around and is coming your way, just because you talked back to him.

I agree that I miss the robot voice though.  During the final boss fight in ME1, the Saren-husk says "I am Sovereign" using Saren's voice; so maybe (hopefully) what we hear in 2 is just how he sounds talking through Collectors and in 3 he'll ge the proper treatment.

Also, his fight dialogue would have been better if it had had more context, depending on the mission.  For instance on Horizon, he could have commented on how "You are too late to save them Shepard" or something to that effect.

Meh I liked Harbinger better because



1: I loved his voice

2: Soverign was very ignorant, something that Harbinger is not.

3: Harbinger has glowing yellow eyes and is fat

4: He has the best li-ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL!

5: He ism ost likely the leader of the Reapers because he is unique.



However you can't compare them since we never even talked to Harbinger, all we got was taunts and his final speech.

He may still be alive, most of the wreckage wasn't recovered. He could have like a Black Box he hid in and the Keepers grabbed it and secreted it away in order to repair him. I just don't want to put up with Harbingers' lame smack talk again.

The conversation with Sovereign was the most memorable scene of ME1. His lines and tone of voice are far more intimidating than ASSUMING DIRECT CON- bang you're dead, try again in a few minutes.



Sovereign raised a large geth army and attacked the citadel head on destroying fleets and very nearly succeeded at capturing the citadel. Harbinger had one space station with one bugship and abducted a few helpless colonists to build a space terminator that wasn't even close to completion.



Even Sovereign's colour is cooler.



Harbinger just doesn't compare. Go back to reaper school.

The scariest Reaper is yet to come. His name will be Massive Terrifier The Mighty Reaper. He is the king of the Reaper's and in a final climatic dual he reveals his true form and Shep gets into a fist fight with him, while Tali clings onto the side of a ledge and shes about to fall and Shep has to decide wether to finish off the King Of The Reapers, Massive Terrifier The Mighty Reaper, or save Tali. oh no!!! tough decisions!!!

Harbinger is an annoyance, while Sovereign was badass. Where Sovereign is like someone putting a gun to your face demanding you buy Viagra, Harbinger is just email spam.



An annoying spammer of one-liners and biotics, otherwise no sense of badass villainy. With a tiny exception at the very end, but far from enough to dethrone Sovereign,
