i patiently played through all that crashes and finished the game once with my me2 created renegade character(this first char in me2 wasnt a me1 import)
and today i decided to import my me1 paragon shepard.so i did and started playing and guess what , the crashes continue and its worse!every few mins(sometimes it can hold on a bit longer like half an hour or an hour)
i still continue trying to solve this and i was trying to solve while i was playing the game(checking internet for solutions while i wasnt playing) tried some ways but none of them seemed to work .
i play on a toshiba laptop with windows vista sp2 intel core 2 duo 4gb ram with ati mobility radeon hd 3650.i also bought mass effect 2 digital deluxe edition off steam .
the solutions i tried were to play as an admin , verify game integrity files(i guess that was the name) defragment game cache in steam, registering the game through ea and bioware websites, changing video options from configuration tool. AND crashes still continue!!!
please , if anyone have a similar problem,or an idea , anything, please share !

this option would be found in the steam settings, In-game tab.

Jack - this is a widespread issue currently going on within the "dual core" community.
You guys are currently checking out a similar issue for single cores, but a lot of people are getting hangs during loading and desktop crashes - and have dual cores.
I hope you'll look into this - because from first hand experience with this issue myself - the game is literally unplayable.
I've had situations where my "Resume" function in-game would not load my current save-game (it would freeze during the loading screen) and I had to load a previous one - at which point - the game crashed to the desktop.
Please please please acknowledge the fact that currently - we are having two *major* different crash issues with ME2 - one for single cores (and dual cores, which are reporting only one core) - and another issue with dual cores (which are correctly reporting two cores).

At this point, we have not been able to reproduce any instances where the game will freeze on load screens with the use of more than a single core.
We are looking into that but until we can cause the issue to happen locally the debugging we can perform is limited.

this is every single time I try to start a new game, so far all I've been able to do is log into the cerebus network and install DLC, i can't even get in to the create a character screens.
OS - Windows XP MediaCenter Edition - SP3
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ running at 2.01
Ram - 2 Gig DDR2
VGA - Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 512
VGA Drivers - Version 196.21
DX Version - 9.0c
ME 2 Version - Digital Deluxe Via Steam.
I've disabled the in-game overlay from steam and I've also tried setting all of my graphics cards settings to Off or the minimum I can get them. I'm running out of ideas here...

Im
happy to see that you(bioware) are finally taking a look at the issue that so many are experiencing atleast. I had my computer delivered in after crashing with me2, they said the computer was fine (though could be upgraded to better work with win7) so the issue is with me2 apparently

I'm not sure if this will help - I'm a game tester myself - working for another company - but I've had ME2 crash mostly during the loading screen where the mass relay is rotating.
Desktop crashes are pretty random for me - but the loading issue (for me at least) - is mostly during that same mass relay loading screen.
I'll keep an eye out for any other repro steps.
On the other hand - perhaps when you guys release a patch for the single cores, it may mysteriously solve the issue for dual cores as well.

Well, sounds like deja vu. I'm having exactly the problem with ME1 (hang-up during start). My many people had this problem since the game was published in 2008 and no official patch fixed this.
The problem seems not to be related to exotic hardware since it shows up with standard hardware (intel cpu, creative labs sound, nvidia(ati graphic) also.
A similiar drama seems to evolve with ME2 right now.
The bottom line is: I wasted some money for disfunctional game software and will keep my hands off bioware games in the future. Lesson learned.
Sorry for the bad news

Well I fixed my main menu stuttering, it was down to the fact I was using a nocd patch - which btw I've done on every game I have ever bought, smartarse replies not required.b1k3rdude wrote...

Thankfully ME2 dosent constantly access the CD once in game, unlike other games do..

Now this will let you play the game, but you obviousvly wont get ingame cinematics which can make the game story feel very disjointed. And more importantly you will not be able to dock at the citadel or go though the Omega 4 Relay as the game appears to have to be able to load the cinematics for these parts.
The game is a blast, but I am running out of stuff to do that doesnt involve going to the citadel or through the Omega 4 relay, that is other than scanning every last planet for sidequests.
I just hope and pray that a patch is forthcomming to fix this issue soon.
Oh and yeah I am running Nvidea 8800 card with newest driver updat and the movies still wont load properly

Thanks, this worked for me with a shortcut. I was crashing at the loading screen after the IFF mission. (ATI 4850, and dual-core CPU, but only shows one core in me2config as well as ME1)Manfred3000 wrote...
Apearantly the problem is with the game cinematics themselves, I saw temporary fix (forgott where) of turning off the cinematics with the Steam app, go in under properties and find the tab with startup options and write:
-nomoviestartup
EDIT: On new game+. I can't remember if I got through it on the first time on the previous run. Crashed at times then as well. Only thing I've done since is apply the DLC and updated my ATI drivers to 10.1.
