Daewan - There is a support group? Linkage? Not to sure about how this support group works. Newbie here.... AND Thane is sexy.. hahaha

I think he may be talking about the Kaidan Alenko Appreciation Society...he's the leader...the link is in my sig.

Honestly, I don't really think of it as cheating. Kaidan makes it pretty clear he wants nothing to do with Shepard as long as she's working with Cerberus. He pretty much breaks up with her. The email makes it clear you could get back together, later, but you're obviously not "in a relationship" with him during the game, when you can romance someone else.

You are still in a relationship with your ME LI as long as the picture in your quarters is still standing upright. Once it's facedown it means you've moved on. You can also reaffirm to Kelly after Horizon whether or not you still have feelings for them.

As for the original post...stayed loyal in all playthroughs...no temptation to cheat...wasn't interested in what they had to offer anyway.

If Kaiden can wait two years, he can wait three. But I bet that won't be an option.

That's my thinking as well...I think that whoever you choose in ME2 will probably be your LI in ME3. I f you cheat with a ME2 LI the game won't even register that you once romanced an ME LI. It's like the devs said...they want to see the romance through to the end but that doesn't mean that who you started with is who you end up with.

my femshep with kaidan will stay loyal. Same for liara. i don't found the female romance interesting in ME2, on the contrary of male romance (tali :D ).

I figured it'd be more interesting to try it a few different ways. Staying loyal to the ME1 LI, "cheating" on them with Thane/Garrus, and playing through without a ME1 LI so that femshep has no baggage when choosing a romance with Thane/Garrus.

That way I can see the different consequences there are for ME3.

I'm still on my first playthrough (RL responsibilities sure interfere with play, don't they?) However, my FemShep will stay faithful to Kaiden. I really enjoyed the character and appreciated that the relationship took time to develop. Also I made an effort to make sure he leveled properly and, along with Wrex, he worked well for me in battle, so I liked him as more than just an LI.

I wasn't surprised about Kaiden's response,  primarily because I'd seen a couple of interviews in which Casey Hudson talked about saving the ME1 LIs for ME3.  (Of course, coming right after a DA:O playthrough in which Alistair broke up with my PC, it did sting a bit!)   However, I started to think about the Horizon interaction differently once I started thinking about the timeline.  I mean, FemShep just woke up -- from her perspective it's been maybe a month or two since she killed Saren (I seem to recall in the opening it's only been a month before she's sent out to clean up pockets of Geth) but of course for Kaiden, it's been two years.  He's been cautious in his relationships for some time for a number of reasons (here I'm thinking of his being pulled away from his family as a kid to be trained as a biotic, developing relationships with the other kids only to have the one the means the most to him withdraw out of fear, his comment about his father serving and being proud of him...eventually, etc.)  So his response about just getting his head on straight again only to have you reappear and his need to withdraw doesn't seem that unreasonable to me.  People have a lot of different responses to grief and loss; Kaiden/Ash's fall within the continuum.  So, while my FemShep felt hurt (and the email did help) she could also walk in his shoes a little and she cares about him so, yeah, at least this playthrough it will be all about Kaiden and reconnecting with him (hopefully!) in ME3. Image IPB

My first Shepard also stayed loyal to Kaiden, but only because Samara stubbornly refused all her advances.

Garrus would have been an option in theory, but why waste a fantastic friendship over a sexual adventure that I can't imagine for either one to be pleasant.

To be honest I really think Bioware should have kept inter-species sexual relationships limited to the Asari who were designed for that.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I just finished ME1 on Saturday and installed ME2. I absolutely enjoyed the Kaiden relationship and have been torn as to whether I should stay loyal or pursue something else. What's holding me back is the email. He apologizes and explains that he needs to clear his head. However, he still hints that he has feelings for you. And, yes. Horizon also made me cry.

It seems to me that Shepard is also a bit lost right now. Before she had a place, purpose, and the support of her peers. Now she is working for an organization she reviles; is coupled with some of the most notorious people in the galaxy, and is finding herself doing things she would not under normal circumstances do (I've noticed that there are much fewer paragon choices so far). For my paragon character, Kaiden is like a lifeline to what she was and she wants that back. Not necessarily the relationship with Kaiden (although she wouldn't say, No." to that), but the place of honor and respect she once held.

I find it unsettling how many people are subscribing to the "out of sight, out of mind" mentality.

Doesn't surprise me at all actually.

Oh well, their loss.

I never did a romance, but if I did, I would totally date Kaiden's toupee. I hate the rest of him but his hair is epic!

EPIC!

Stayed loyal, got to look sad at Kaidan's picture before the suicide mission. Staying loyal was easy, had no interest in anyone else romantically.

my current FemShep (import from ME1) is staying faithful because... well, why not? main Shepard cheated on Ashley with Miranda (that'll teach her to recite poetry to me! also, DAT ACCENT. also, gotta start some drama somewhere!), second Shepard was faithful to Liara, third Shepard was non-import, so... i guess it's just me alternating choices, when you think about it :P also i guess since i cheated on one human, may as well stay faithful to the other.

But what about players who have no interest in the asari physically? It doesn't seem fair that I HAVE to strictly be with a woman if I want to be with an alien in the game, not everyone is attracted to women after all. Thane IMO was the perfect male asari if that makes any sense. He had a physically male shape but with some alien characteristics, a sexual relationship was feasible with him. Garrus however was more on the alien side and for some people this was "weird". I found for people who liked garrus's romance the best (I'm one of them) it was based more on his personality, that humanized him enough that you didn't just see a bird/dinosaur thing when he spoke to you. Garrus certainly is the "exotic" option for sure but thane is the happy medium just like the asari are so it makes things more equal.

Went for Garrus as soon as he's available. It's not my fault that my femshep went too paragon during conversation thus forcing her romance with Kaidan. I had no intention of making my Shep romance him ever. I can't help but kept being reminded of Carth, his poofter hair didn't help either.

Then I went on to make 2 more Shepards, 1 for Garrus only and another with Liara.
