Have you installed any patches?
Also, have you attempted to run the program "as administrator"

if it is mass effect 1, you need to upgrade it at least to version 1.1 or it will not work.
the launcher of the game itself has the download link for the patch if i remember, there's another patch too, the 1.2

ok I've put the 1.02 patch and now it works but there's another problem....now before starting the game asks me the installation code (I think to registrate the product)....but once I write the code it doesn't accept it....what should I do?

It's for the extra missions, "bring down the sky" is free if u register your cdkey on the bioware site, they send back another one to you to activate the content. (the game launcher guides u for that)
"pinnacle station" costs money

I have the similar case with Jade Empire, installed it on Win 7 (digital download) and now cannot get the dang thing to run. When it runs the config then it crashes. When it runs the game then it starts the config because it's a fresh install and then it still crashes. Done it in admin mode and no cigar. I have to try yet to re-install ME1 on Win 7 64-bit to see if it'll work, at least for ME1 there are patches. But, ME2 so far works fine, right from install.

You should be able to run in admin mode by right-clicking the proper executable and choosing "Run as administrator"
The main game and configuration executables should be located within the Binaries folder of your installation directory.
The launcher's executable should be in the bottom of your mass effect installation directory

right click on launcher exe and click on properties go to compatibility tab click on run this game in compatibility for and scroll down to vista service pack 2.
I don't know if this is your problem but this is the only way I could get it to run on win7

Sorry that didn't help. Its very frustrating have a new game that you cant play. I spent about 10 hours trying to get my ME1 Character imported into ME2 before I finally figured it out.
