Dear Bioware,
I hate to love you. As anyone familiar with gaming knows, you are the ones that handle story. You're the best. But while you're the best at story, like Bethesda is the best with environments, you're, again like Bethesda, pathetic with the basics. In mastering your focus, you practically ignore the other main components of a game, not to mention the binding elements. Your combat is like throwing puddles at each other. Your inventory is like trying to finger a whale with a Twinkie. Should I mention the bugs with character skills and stats? Complete ignorance of balancing? You have consistently failed to meet the common standards of playability in every category but story for years.
Now, I know. You're a sub of EA now, and EA is the sweatshop of the industry. If anyone from EA is reading this, you are a plague on the human race, you thoughtless, talentless accountant. Get a real job. In fact, kill your boss. Kill your boss. He ruins peoples lives with his aimless hording of commodities that he will only spend on things he won't use. You are accomplice to his crimes. Kill your boss. Ahem. I'm also aware that this formula has worked for you for years. Trust me, I've begrudgingly played every single one, enduring for the story, hoping the next game won't be as bad as the last. Why haven't I leaped yet?
But play a game, any game. Go to the store, buy it, play. In that completely random game you will find a bad story, but here's a treat, everything else is fun. It's not hard. People do it all the time. Convince one of the EA toolboxes, just smile and talk about his many problems with him over a weak drink, convince him to spend some of that short-sited investment of advertising on making a good game. I know, I know. In the corporate world, you all hate each other, and no one talks. But in the real world, there's something called word-of-mouth. What happens is, when someone likes something, they spread the news. Let's 2 and 2 this. Good game plus word-of-mouth, equal free advertising. Not to mention things like reviews, fansites, all that crap. You already have a solid foundation among hardcore gamers that know your story is top of the line, and a lot of casual gamers that don't know any better, this will work. You will acquire loyalty, you won't be just another name.
If you can't master that, bury your company. You've given enough to the gaming profession as it is, go with grace, and purge the sickness growing in you from us all.
- Your Rueful, Adamant Fan
