How about simply being able to toggle it off in the options? Like persistent gore.
No... you don't get it. Sure some people like silent characters because it pulls them into the game more (I don't, I find voiced PC's like Shepard pull me in much much more)
The BIG problem is you can't have the massive amount of dialog options in DA:O fully voiced. It's just way way way way way to much. You would need to really cut back on PC dialog options in exchange for a voiced PC. Thats what most people do not want to happen. Thats what seperates DA:O from the ME series.

I released an addon to completely silence your character. I'm still planning to go back, and reactivate the trap warnings and combat grunts.Majere613 wrote...
I want my PC to shut the heck up when I'm telling her what to do. 'Can I get you a ladder, so you can get off my back?' every ten seconds is deeply annoying.

I very strongly want the PC not to be voiced in conversation. Voicing the PC in conversation creates far too many other compromises, in addition to dramatically reducing the amount of roleplaying freedom available to the player.
If you look at that quote in my sig, I picture one of my characters (my dwarf noble) saying it all sheepish, looking at the ground, while another character (my dwarf commoner) would react angrily and storm off. You can't have both those reactions with a voiced PC.

Let's however say it was Free and didn't require any time on Dragon Age's part. I would still say no, your PC sounds however you think he sounds or she sounds. I rather listen to other people then listen to my own PC talk.
In Mass Effect your PC talked, though they usually had only three responses. In my own thought there was little digole interaction in mass effect with a companion untill you complete a mission and virtually no interaction during their mission unless it was something that directly affected them
Did this happen because they picked to voice script the PC. I don't know, though I'd rather stick with what we got

But yeah, the repeated instances of "Can I get you a ladder, so you can get off my back?" got annoying after the first time. Of course, my character was a dwarf at the time so I was always talking back to her about not needing a ladder in the first place...

I believe you're overlooking the spirit of the OP's premise in that money (and therefore, I assume, resources) isn't an issue. SO assume you can have all the options, only voiced.

I don't mind the PC not being voiced, but all things being equal, if all the other characters in the game have a voice, I think I'd opt to have the PC voiced as well.
Agreed. It is very noticeable when everyone is speaking full dialogue but the main character. It isn't as obvious in games that have some, but limited, voice acting (such as BG2). However, in a game in which you see not only voice acting, but facial responses as well, it is a little odd watching the stoic, emotionless main character interact.
Obviously, something you give up when voicing the PC is generally the customization of the voice, but I'd gladly give up the dozen or so unique combat phrases for a fully voice acted PC.

I´d like to read your opinion if you would prefer your PC voiced or not (besides of possible costs).
I have read many statments of people, who didn´t like their PC mute.
I, myself was glad, that the PC doesn´t speak. Perhaps I missed some more mimic, but not a voice.
This way it feels as if I would speak myself, with my own intonation and mood. If my PC was voiced and his way of talking would not fit to my own feelings, it would depart me from my character.
I felt this way playing ME1, the female german voice was a little bit too harsh for me and I felt like piloting another person through the game instead beeing inside myself.
Of course this doesn´t concern NPCs, they HAVE to talk to get a personality and show emotions.
My question doesn´t concern, if voicing is realistic regarding financial issues, but what you would prefer if you had free choice and why.
Yes in a roleplaying game the main character is supposed to me, thus I don't want some gimpy voice actor ruining that.

In ME and ME2 I have the choice of:
a)bland male US accent
b)bland female US accent.
They're not even the interesting US accents. Pure vanilla.
