Just went back and killed her on nightmare with lvl 12 party. Myself, (warrior) Shale, Leliana (ranged) and Morrigan.

I did use 64 health potions though...

I found that the "Indomitable" talent (and similar) are very useful in fights like this, as you would otherwise spend a lot of the time being knocked on your behind.

I just killed her at level 11, Me Blood Mage with Heals, Alistair, Sten, & Morrigan. Unfortunately, Sten & Morrigan got jumped early and I couldn't heal quick enough to save them. Alistair performed amazingly in his Dragon Blood Armour. This is what kept the fight going. So I summoned the dragon close to the door for the gauntlet. That hurt me earlier because the group was sort of trapped. But after I got my mage behind a partition and Alistair was able to tank effectively I kept the heals going and threw up Death Cloud when timer was up and fired off my arcane bolts. My mage has pretty good spellpower so it worked out well in the end. I really thought I would have to try again after two members of my party were eaten so early.

Without having to use 50 gabillion health poltices I use two rogues, wynn, and alister.  Cast force field on Alister and healed him throughout the fight.  The rogues sat back and fired arrows.  I tried without using force field and the battle just boiled down to using health poltices and lyrium potions.  I'm still trying to figure out how to have a really smooth fight without using force field and spamming health potions.

Maybe with my warrior character with fire protections, sten, morrigan, and wynne.Image IPB

The fights were on hard mode.

Soloed it at level 13 on Nightmare with my mage.   Make sure there's an object between yourself and the dragon so that he cannot pull you to him with buffet.  Drink a Greater Warmth Balm and his Fire Spit will deal 20's rather than 60's.

I killed the high dragon on my second try.  I believe I was level 15.  I used leiliana, morrigan, wynne, and myself and i'm a duelist / ranger just by using ranged attacks..

I summoned a blight wolf (the upgraded ranger pets can take a lot of punishment) and had my pet attack and the rest of us were positioned as far away from the dragon as possible while still being in auto attack range.  I had wynne simply auto attack and casting regen every time the dog got to 80% HP and casting heal every time he got to 50% HP.  every time he jumps up to fly, just move any ranged attackers away from him ...super easy kill, maybe used 2 or 3 potions MAX when he would fly and hit someone when he landed.  My pet actually lived through the entire encounter quite easily
this strategy works on every epic encounter that i've came across.  i've never had to use any tank characters because my ranger pets can tank any yellow or orange mob..  lol

I was about level 22 by the time I returned to the critter and put him in the ground, so the tactics I used are probably useless. Had my critter, a sword & shield dwarf and Al use shield wall to remain upright. Lelianna plinking her with arrows, and Wynne standing around with her cleansing aura, (And Ice Weapons for a smidgeon of damage) which healed all the damage we took.

Lucky you can come back any time you like as my party keeps being eaten!! Mind you I was level 10 at the time and didn't bring Morrigan which is pretty crucial.

People really are defeating it with a level 15 group? Huh, maybe I should go back and give it a go. I assumed 15 was underleveled.

If i just had more than 1 mana potion. Im level 9 on hard and dont exactly have the best ranged support ,as i didnt expect this. Zevran can just watch. And Shale is lonely up in the dangerzone.

Although i think i itched her a bit to 90%. Quick math... should have had 10 mana potions lol.

Unsure if it makes sense to back out and then miss out on the rewards? My team went a long way for that.

Think I can pull it off with an all melee level 10 group? (3 warriors + rogue/leliana)

I doubt it. The worst thing about this dragon is its close range aoe.

I did it at 15 with Me (DW sword and dagger rogue), Allistair Tanking, Wynn standing back beside morigan at the gong healing and morigan going to down with dps spells. Wynns group heal is a life saver in this battle. I had to run my rogue out afew times to drop some heal poultices, the dragon won't actually chase anyone on foot, but flies to different locations instead.

Other than that the rest of my npcs ran on tactics and I didn't lose a soul :) (On normal, not sure how hard it is on hard or nightmare)

Simple tactic for solo rogue, using traps:

Wear the Superior Drakescale armor, greater warmth balm, and any other item that buffs fire resistance, just in case you actually get caught in the flames.
Plant about 150-200 damage traps (shock, frost, acid, soulrot, shrapnel), blow the horn, kite the dragon through the traps.
If you want the neat killing animation, head in when s/he's at a sliver of health.

Depending on your difficulty level, you'll need more traps.

Well I avoided reading your post, but I had to ask. Why isn't this under the spoiler topic. This is General Discussion. Please be considerate and move it. Thanks

Technically this is not general discussion...maybe someone has not come far enough in the game to know there is a high dragon?...please be considerate yourself and stop complaining...Image IPB

I usually wait till a little later before doing the high dragon. So far the only group I had with zero deaths (normal diff) is with my AW, though I spam potions. The "easiest" fight I had was with my dual-weilding tank though. I waited till I got both Starfang and Keening blade, Grandmaster Runed both, used stunning poisons with Alister as back up tank, Lelianna on bow and Wynne healing / CC / Debilitating. Had an "accidental" death with Alister because I was late on the heal otherwise I would have been a flawless fight. (Oh Allister has the poison ability just so he can use poisons on his blades too). Wynne only needed 1 pot recharge though. Was over fast. :)

Killed easily on Normal at level 12 with myself(Arcane Warrior) Wynne...Lelianna...and Samuel(Mabari).

7 lesser heal poults used

3 Lyrium Pts used

1 Warmth Balm used

Here's how I did it:

Position: Be in the narrow passage between the cliff the dragon rests on and the entrance to the Gauntlet temple...Make your party hold position...take the tank and move him away from the party...leave Wynne in the far back...melee damage flank..and of course tank with his back to a wall...sound the horn.

Tank: Everytime you get a knock down run back towards the dragon to avoid movement...movement is bad...and make sure to pop a warmth balm if you have one...fire resistance helps a great deal.

Healer: Make sure you use Mass rejuvenate...and Mass heal if neccersary...Heroic is a good spell to use on melee dps due to the attack bonus...

Melee DPS: Primary Mission: Stay on the side or rear of the dragon...you dont want em fireballz goin off on you...Leliannas song of valor is massively usefull for a stamina, mana boost.

Mage: Have cone of cold....avoid the melee by running close enough for the cones spread to miss them...and freeze the sucker solid...follow up with crushing prison...massive DOT(Damage Over Time) Telekinetic weapons is awesome.

(If you have)Arcane Warrior: Pop your combat magic and stone armor and run inthere like a mofo...very unlikely to die

I'm kinda disappointed with my fight with the High Dragon.  My group was 13-14, composed of Myself and Le (both Archer rogues), Sten with the sword from the Circle Tower, and Wynne on heals.  We were fighting on the ramp, everyone spread out, and things went well until the dragon was about 50%.

At that point Sten loses aggro and the dragon takes off after my character.  While Wynne is healing Aesa, my rogue, the dragon turns around puts the hurt on Sten.  I change healing targets late and Sten goes down, then my rogue right after.  No worries, I think, they fell close together.  The dragon takes off after Le, and while distracted I drop a revive on Aesa and Sten.  Le gets chewed up and the dragon turns and fireballs the recently revived, putting them back down.

So there Wynne is, all on her lonesome with revive on cooldown and no real combat effectiveness.  I'm thinking I should just reload now, but my panicked brain focuses on Forcefield (something needs to be done about this spell).  So I put the field up around Wynne and stare at revive, trying to will the cooldown to end faster, while the dragon goes totally spastic on top of Wynne.  (Something needs to be done about the AI)

Then the dragon fell over dead.

WTF?

My guess is the dragon isn't immune to its own aoe, and it friendly fired itself to death.

Very disappointing.

Since the others were down, I bet she totally made up some story about how heroic she was. Image IPB

It was kinda like killing a dragon by choking it with a wine bottle.  Goes well with cheese I guess ...

Awesome, i didnt need to leave. My wimpy group got him ,mostly Shale being the hero. But he's level 10 already. Me is 9. Playing on hard difficulty.

Zevran got some bow training too but complained a bit. What do you do when you run out of potions before you run into the dragon lol.

Saw lot of 1's (damage) floating around but also 30's, and it took 15 minutes. But definitly worth it.

Just did it with PC warrior tank, Morrigan for frosty attacks and some spot healing, Leilana for straight up dps with ice arrows, and Wynne as healbot, only buffing me with lifeward and heroic defense. The battle was quite easy, only dipped briefly below 50% health and that was when the dragon decided she wanted a snack. Now I'm loving my dragonbone armor on my tank. =) Nice upgrade from the warden armor.
