I have tried to use this gun many times but so far it only worked once. In the warehouse on the citadel it would work but anywhere else it just made a noise and never charged up. I thought it was distance so I went even farther then i did the first time still nothing.

Pretty sure it has to be at 100 % charge to fire. And then you have to work it back up to 100 % charge. Takes a long time to replenish the Cain's ammo.

I was thinking that but the first few times i tried to use it did not work, so i guess it starts out not full and takes awhile to charge up before able to use. I thought it said percent but i could not read the reticular.

I hated that ridiculous weapon. Took it with me to Tuchanka for Grunt's trial right after I first got it. It had 145% ammo. One single shot took it down to 45%, the nearby Power Cell pickup gave me 18%. That's 63%. And as others have said, it won't fire if it's not at 100%. And I still had a Thresher Maw trying to melt my face off. So yeah, it's safe to say I went back to the Collector Beam weapon after that.

+1 to Stoko981.
The Heavy Weapons are virtually worthless unless you can find every power cell in the game. The Collector Beam is the most useful by far.

The Cain is useful if you like one-shotting mini-bosses. Other than that, stick with the CBW or missile launcher.

Used it once and it was epic! But the charge time and power usage means I probably wont use it again in this playthrough!
When I first fired it it was at 115% and I thought this would be a massive kill! It was! But then I ran around with it up to 60% and still couldnt shoot. Plus finding a big enough space to fire it is a challenge also.
The gun is essentially for your multi-playthroughs. When you know your going to fight a big boss and you save it right up to the end for the big kill. On your first play you dont know enough to know when to use it and you often find you lugging it around for no reason.

The first time I shot the Cain it was in a closed room, I got the surprise of a lifetime.
