this game is really difficult i am struggeling at bits on easy mode! why cant it be as easy as mass effect 2 on easy XD  also how do i get onto other campaigns instead of the joining the grey wardens as i ahve had 2 worriors and a elf mage and they all becaome gray wardens ??

If this game is to hard for you i suggest something easier like maybe Go Fish.  This is by far the easiest RPG game ever created.  You do realise you can setup the AI on your own people and set the game difficulty to normal or hard and it will beat the game for you?

This is nowhere near the easiest RPG ever made. KotOR was much easier. The Sith Lords was so easy you could, aside from one or two fights, win the game with no tactical thinking whatsoever, just autopilot through the mobs. Similarly Hordes of the Underdark and NWN2's original OC, both of which could be played with next to no planning, and were so nerfed that almost any build, even using the dreaded "Auto-level" could complete the game. And if you figured out the desired leveling path in Oblivion, you could crush the game without thinking too.

Whatever you think of DA overall, it's fairly difficult as far as RPGs go. And certainly more difficult than the norm for RPGs in the last 10 years.

Where exactly was the difficulty in the game?  When i bought and installed the game on my first playthrough i set the game to hard.  I had to set it on nightmare just to make myself actually do more than whatch the scripted character commands beat the tar out of the in game AI!  So what fights were difficult?

Oblivion was nearly unplayable out of the box but i agree as well since i beat the main storyline as a level 1.  That to me never made any sense but they had some big shoes to fill following a game like morrowind.  KoToR was definetly another easy game but the plot was much more interesting than the standard DAO went with.  However i still would agree it was super easy.

On PC? When I played the first time on normal, on many fights alistair would die in like 3 seconds without a heal. Often I'd need to have both morrigan and wynne healing him. And yes, this is with shield wall on, and decent armour. I had to rely on morrigan's sleep a lot, and that other messy spell which confuses monsters, because I couldn't be arsed to read all the spell descriptions and mostly picked the nukes and buffs / debuffs.

The spell choices you make in this game has a huge impact on the game's difficulty.

To tell the OP to go play GoFish was a little uncalled for right ? Posted Image

Did you change the tactics around a lot? Because with the default tactics there were hardly any "bigger" fights that I didn't have to micromanage in order to win. For instance, some of the revenants in the forest, I had to micromanage to have my party attack and disable the right foes at the right time. The default tactics doesn't have any real prioritzation when it comes to what enemy to stun/shield bash etc and as far as I know the default tactics didn't include using potions either.

So if you set up your tactics in a good way, I'm sure you can let the game auto-play a lot of the encounters, but to an inexperienced player, setting up tactics is probably pretty hard.

I micromanage a lot when I play and I try to challenge myself to find the best way to tackle harder encounters and if an encounter forces me to spam potions, then I reload and try again, with a different approach. Also, getting a companion knocked out is an instant reload for me.
I did the same in Fallout 3, which IMO had a pretty good balance, except that there was no cooldown or even animation on taking stimpacs, so you could just pause the game, spam som stims and then keep going.  So if you think it's too easy, you can always set up your own rules and challenges.

Yeah, I think perhaps the OP was expecting something more constructive than "lol n00b!!!!1111 ur teh suxx0r!!!!!!111111oneoneone"

Perhaps he's never been to web forums before... At least some people are making an effort, though. Oh, and I wasn't quoting anyone in particular there. Just referring to the, y'know, general tone of some of the replies.

This wasn't my first RPG and I found it tough on my first playthrough. It's easier on mage, it's easier if you do certain quests first, and it's easier with all the patches installed. For much of my first playthrough, I didn't have that.

As others have said, use the space button a lot. And you do know that you can download the manual from ea or steam, smittysmit?

When in trouble, have a tank sent forth to take the beating (normally a warrior), have your mage stay back and cast spells. Note that certain spells have cool down periods - this means that you can't use them before there have gone 20 or maybe 30 seconds. When you get access to a rogue have her (him) stand a little to the side to fire arrows or use their hide in stealth ability to do even more damage to the bad guys.

If you're really in trouble, just use this cheesy tactics. Kiting it is called.

You just run around in circles, taunting the enemy with one strong (lots of hitpoints) guy - and then you just hammer at them with missile weapons...

When you see mages, try to take them out as quickly as possible. If you have a mage, use the crows control spells such as stun, ice spells that freeze etc. Or you can get a Marbarai War Dog that is really helpful as it as an attack called 'stun' I think?

Please also note that this is not a game in the same genre as Mass Effect 1 or 2, or even KOTOR.

The combat in this game is as tactical as in any tactical shooter, say Gears of War or Ghost Recon: Advanced Fighter.

I do not have any problems playing this game at all. If anyone is has trouble even playing on the easiest mode than maybe RPG games are not for you. I don't want to sound mean or anything but its kinda true. Now maybe your not outfitting your characters the right way. Armor, weapons, and everything else is very important in creating the best game play for yourself. Just try experimenting with different armor and weapons for your own character and party members

You just have to love the fact that some people think that everyone is going to find the same things easy and not only think that but decide to ridicule because of it. I'd like to see some of you discuss string theory over a starbucks... you arent going to heaven faster if you blaze through the game easily on nightmare, blindfolded, eating chicken mcnuggets with one hand and ...patting your mabari with the other after all....

The game gets easier the more you play it. Start out on the easiest setting and really play each of the characters until you get an understanding of what each class/spell can do. After several playthroughs, what I used to find challenging, no longer is. I have to up my difficulty level to keep it challenging. It is *progress* which is normal. :) We aren't all fantabulous at everything immediately and frankly, we shouldn't be. Why spend $60 on a game that is not unlike a snooze?

imo - this is not a game best enjoyed because of how fast you beat it, though it *is* possible to play it that way, and good for you if you like it that way, I only object to belittling others because of it. And all the people who tell you to try a different type of game, well, I am happy to hear it because they are THAT GOOD that maybe they will come out with unbeatable mods for the rest of us humans who play it because we enjoy it, not to prove our superiority over it. I need more content anyway, and being as its so easy, it will be ready for us tomorrow, yes? . :)
