I shall amend this (well, can't delete the other, but I did master the copy paste routine...)
I know, I know... a little cheesy; and the thought that this would reach the right eyes is a dubious one at best, but I'd like to do it anyway. Especially after this great weekend that I had during which I consumed more coffee than I care to remember and even resorted to Red Bull. I hate that sticky sweet stuff, but I did it anyway.
Coming to the point now, apologies.
Thanks, BioWare. Thanks to every individual involved in creating Mass Effect 2. You've taken an already promising first go at it and turned it into something that surprised me. I didn't think it possible that there would ever be a game again that would be so througoutly enjoyable (not since Thief 1 & 2 and System Shock 1 & 2 anyway), but you delivered.
I shouldn't be surprised, but Mass Effect 2 was nothing as I would expect it to be. Maybe thats because I try to stay away from pre-release discussions and gameplay trailers and whatnot... but that's beside the point.
It's different in its own right. Truth be told, it feels as though ME1 was just a test run and now you've nailed it.
Now people might argue, I know. And I'd appreciate if you'd keep that out of this post and take it to others, but I know you probably wont anyway
I'm not sure if I should be going into any more detail, I think my point of thanks has been made already. Then again it's not like I do this everyday, actually ME2 is the first game I bothered to try and give a round of thanks to the folks that made it.
What you did with the combat? Approval from this player! More fluent, less of a chore as it was in ME1 (at least to this here player). I enjoy every combat session.
What you did to the micromanagment? I couldn't thank you enough to express how I feel about that. In a very positive way. Nothing wrong with picking up items, distributing, selling and piling up... I like that in DA:O and I didn't mind it in any other RPG. But what you did in ME2 did the whole game one huge favor, however I'll come to that in a moment.
What you did to the compansions? The way you've handled them this time, the way you've integegrated them into the crew, and how they interact with Shepard makes every single one of them feel more human (even if they're clearly not at times). They're no longer your usual fiddles in the background. They're a part of things; a significant one. Most of that you conveyed through the cutscenes during missions, giving them roles to move the story forward. Little things. Yet still significant.
What you did to the pace?
I'll be blunt: The pace is what made this game for me and broke ME1 for me.
I like doing sidequests. I like exploring. I like collecting items and I'm one hell of a nitpicky person when it comes to gear, no matter if single player or multiplayer. Though that means I get sidetracked. I lose focus and I scurry after everything that looks shiney. But, seriously, the galaxy is at stake. Not just that, at times the lifes of those close to Shepard hang by a thin thread that might snap if I linger.
What self respecting hero of Shepard proportions would spend time idly sitting in his/her cabin mixing and matching armor?
There's still everything I need for customization. There's still tons of content to explore and there's still enough left to go back again and do it all over again. And again. And then again, probably.
But through it all it didn't ruin the pace. I went forward, wanted to go forward, and that is what gave the game that final touch it needed. The feeling of urgency. The feeling of something being truly at stake, instead of the usual "OH ANOTHER SIDEQUEST!" I tend to get hung up on when I play RPGs.
.. add to that the truly wonderful score that fits every situation like a custom tailored glove and this here player was happy all through the experience.
I'll stop here, my apologies for everyone who bothered to read this and had to endure the babble.
At the end though I'd like to say one more thing.
Mass Effect 2 is something I'd want to watch at the movie theater.
Your script writers.. your writers, your animators, your designers, your voice actors, your *takes a breath* artists, your music .. err.. artists? .. your .. okay, I really don't know enough about the gaming industry to be able to list every role. All of them deserve honest thanks and I'd tip my hat if I had one.
And for some reason I'm inspired to write again. For that I thank you again, but that is really beside the point.
/tips imaginary hat
.. I'm so not going to prove read this or I'll run screaming.

And I was impressed how you pulled that out with crew mates
And mining proved to be interesting.... ehhh... everything was very improved.
But there is two huge problems you did, actually:
- after 57h of playing it still felt very short.
- we now have to wait for ME3 for so long

And thanks for not rushing it out and leaving it half baked. I know you cut some things, but you didn't ruin the content by cutting important segments (at least.. so far I haven't seen any).

That's the best movie I've ever took part!
It's just an epic experience, and unlikely some said, it's more enveloping and cinematically involving than its predecessor
I've just finished my first playthrough (about 71 game hours, in about 7 days).. and I already hunger to do more!
