I was really looking forward to Talimance, and when I found out that I couldn't romance her (anymore... from what I've read it actually WAS in the game at some point) I was quite a bit disheartened.
You can romance Tali...
OT: The main complaints the "RPGers" have with this game are the non-inventory and the smaller skill trees. I can sort of understand why you'd want more skills, and I'll admit that ammo powers feel a little bit uninventive, but the invenotory compaint is just retarded: The inventory was made redundant by other gameplay changes, they didn't remove the inventory and then adapt the game around it.

The vocal minority is still going to be more vocal.

I was just getting ready to suggest that but you beat me to it. All these people that think the majority dislike the game should look at the poll and see the truth that they are the MINORITY.

1- Heat clips. Spent way too much attention in battle looking for those things instead of what was going on. Ruined the atmosphere.
2- Planet scanning: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
3- Navigating the ship. Preferred the old galaxy map. Felt like my crew was useful for something.
4- Gears of Mass effect: Although the shooter part was much improved, too much got removed to my taste. Ended up as a shooter with a story (subjective)

It seems like people are disappointed in specific aspects of the game but the game as a complete package has been very well received from what I have seen.
This.
Just because you're disappointed in some of the things delivered doesn't mean it's not a good game.

Great reviews. Tons of sales. That speaks for itself. If you bought the game and didn't like it that's no BioWares problem or fault. They knew who they were selling to and streamlined the game for them.
Dragon Age got great reviews and tons of sales by the way. It's also a great game pointed at a specific demographic. EA/BioWare did not produce two games pointed at the same group of consumers so fans of one are not 100% certain to be fans of the other.
This isn't rocket science, A + B = C. It isn't political science, trying to say who does or does not deserve a game. It's marketing. Does anyone seriously think that computer games, their plots, designs, stories, engines and the like are just made by a bunch of guys going 'I have a great idea! Let's make a game like X!'
They are researched and designed for a particular market, the initial idea fit into a sales model. That's not bad, that's what makes it work.

I wasn't disappointed in the game as a whole but there are certain things I don't like about the game.
I honestly preferred the cover system in the first game, I could never understand what people didn't like about it. What was hard about lightly pressing against something to enter cover? I also really miss the ability to crouch, many times in the first game a rocket or power would go over my head because I was able to duck in time.
The shared cool-down time is a pain in the bottom, especially for my preferred class of an Adept which relies on its powers for offence and defence. It may be really short but even a small delay is a pain. In the first game I could use Lift on one enemy and instantly turn around to use Throw, now of course I can't do that. Even more bizarre was the choice to tie medi-gel to Unity, meaning that healing shares the same cool-down as powers.
While I like the way we can change Shepard's armour now I really miss the ability to tinker with what my team-mates wear, being able to change the colour set (really slightly in some cases) doesn't make up for it.
I know I'm sounding negative about the game, I really did enjoy it, but in all honesty I think I'll still be playing Mass Effect long after I'm done with its sequel.

"wahh i cannot date my ME1 character"
"wahh Shephard isn't gay"
"wahh I can't explore all the same areas i already explored in ME1"
"wahh they improved the fighting but now it feels more like Halo"
"wahh bioware sold out wahh wahh wahh.."
It's stupid. So far for me the game has been engaging, brought back good memories of ME1 and is beautiful. Look at all the games out on the shelves and tell me this is really that bad?! Its a masterpiece.
I think most of the complainers didn't want a sequel. They wanted ME1 again with a few small changes. Instead Bioware really pushed out the boat to give it a major overhaul. Some people just don't like change I guess. Keep telling yourself 40 bunker sidequests and mako riding was amazing fun and I'll be cruising with Miranda and Jack.

In the grand scheme of the game the slow scanning of planets isn't that big but when you consider how often you have to do it and how long it can take, not only to scan but having to fly back for more probes, then that little thing starts to become a big problem.

Would you prefer driving around with the Mako in nothingness and going up hills with it?voteDC wrote...
The thing is that the little things can make a difference in a game.

Scanning is the lesser evil, it's annoying, but not as annoying as the Mako

Very happy its an improvement over the first. As a gamer who plays both shooters, rpgs, and rts, I know its heresy to admit liking more than one genre. I like the change to a sharper shooter feel.
I replayed one to get up to date again and being able to fire better is fantastic.
The inventory system is gone... Yes and actually I think I like it. Whilst I would like the ability to pick up a few different armours, or a selection for the characters, lets face it we all used the loot in ME1 to make a ton of money? didnt we?
I can live without an inventory system as such in a game, and an rpg at that.
Another odd one at first glance is looking at the skills, its almost what? whats going on wheres my skill tree where I can pick and choose from a gazillion skills. What would open it up is removing classes entirely and allowing the player to pick and choose there skill path freely.
However the limited skill trees fit.
No mako - good. It was far too easy to win with that, and driving round planets wasnt the most interesting thing to do. About the only serious threat to that thing was a thresher worm.
But I dont have to pick up and buy guns for everyone anymore? well your on a billion dollar (or more) frigate with state of the art manufacturing facilities. Fair enough, I dont have to worry about bulky inventory.
The minigames for hacking and decryption are quite fun and more interesting that the wheel game from the first one.
Scanning planets, well I have to keep reminding myself I do not need to scan every planet and suck up every resource out there. I can go run missions and do the odd planet when I feel like it. Especially when I have 50k of most elements in the hold. Prefer this to driving the Mako up mountains.
If there was something I would like to change it would be information on datapads instead of just cash.
It certainly is more shooter than rpg, but not strictly a shooter. This is a good thing and adding ammo (heat clips) was a good choice. As a fps player I kept on trying to reload in ME1, and throwing grenades. I never really got on with the Hellgate, Tabula rasa style of continous fire, although ME1 was much better than that.
Yes I can see how some gamers who want a traditional rpg will be shocked they are missing what are traditional rpg elements. Me I am happy that someone is challenging how games should be made and is willing to cross boundaries.
I get bored of carbom copy games.

I agree is has been outrageous claims of the majority disliking it with not backing up for facts. Even so, neigh sayers will cut it down, with some legit, and some not-so legit complaints about this poll as well.
The not happy spent more times on the forums, the one who enjoy it spend more time playing, no need to wonder why there is more negative posts than not.
Thank you for making this.

Every good gamer nitpicks, looks at the details, for each flaw speaks volumes to him or her. It is what separates a gamer from a casual player.
