REGARDING MASS EFFECT 2, NOT NECESSARILY MASS EFFECT 1.

NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS TO PROMOTE CONSOLE SUPERIORITY, IT WAS POSTED FOR INTEREST.

:D Just for anyone who's interested. If you don't care, don't mention it,
because the news isn't for you then. I can CONFIRM that these lines are there.

Played the first game on the 360, it was amazing. Ditched my 360 and beat it again on the PC and it
was equally awesome. Now I'm using my imported character in Mass Effect
2, and it's amazing so far.

From the sounds of it, I may get to play this on the PS3 after all. My rig isn't that great, and I really
love console gaming. So any PS3 people out there, it's coming, they just
can't talk about it. Previously it was discovered that there were lines
in the default engine config file settings that mentioned PS3, but it
was disregarded as it could have been for any BioWare game. Say what you
want, but this is new BULLET proof that this game will be coming to PS3.

I wonder if they are planning (or legally able) to bring the first game
to the console, because it would be awesome to get to carry over a
character for those who haven't ever played it. Although for someone
like me, I hear that Mass Effect 2 offers a pretty good way to choose
the way events unfolded in the first game via dialogue options.

FLAMING ON THIS TOPIC WOULD BE RIDICULOUS, IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ENJOYING THE GAME, LEAVE IT AT THAT. THIS IS NEWS TO ANYONE THAT CARES, AND IT IS ENTIRELY FACT-BASED. ANYTHING ELSE NOT RELATING TO THE ARTICLE IS PERSONAL, AND NOT NEWS.

ME2 for the PS3 would be silly since there would be no ME1 for the PS3. If they converted ME1 to the PS3 then ME2 for the PS3 would be great. Starting in the middle of a trilogy is just bad form.  The more platforms the game is on the more it can be enjoyed.  ME1 has as much right to be on the PS3 as Final Fantasy XIII has to be on the XBox 360.

How does this spark a flame war, it's news for anyone that cares, anyone who doesn't is already enjoying the game on their platform of choice.

If I recall correctly, didn't ME1 show Microsoft Gaming Studios when you first started the game? Yeah that's never going to happen at least not with ME1.

Frankly I would be happy if it came out for PS3. At least that way I could get the whole trilogy on one disk. (Yes I'm a lazy bastard less disc swapping = win)

Microsoft effectively owns the Mass Effect brand so they've got control over what happens with it.

You can find all sorts of references to the PS3 in Mass Effect 2 files.

The "DefaultEngine" config. settings have the following, too:

// BIOSTART - David Streat - Jan 29, 2009

;// Support for mapping Wwise platforms to UE3 platform IDs (UE3::EPlatformType)

[WwiseToUE3PlatformMap]

Windows=1

PS3=8

Xbox360=4

// BIOEND

Just stating, this is NOT supposed to promote superiority of any kind. I think it's great for BioWare if their games come to as many platforms as possible, as they are my favourite studio EVER.

That's because it uses the Unreal 3 engine which is made to run on PC, 360 and PS3.   It's not Bioware's game engine like Dragon Age was.

Because you get a bunch of 360 fanboys frothing at the mouth and screaming that Microsoft owns Mass Effect (despite the fact that THEY DON'T) and saying the PS3 sucks, can't "handle" ME, among other nonsense.

...

I'm well aware of that.

I'm just saying that there are references to the PS3 all through the files for that very reason; it's the engine they're using.

Fair enough, but so far my flame shield seems to be holding out ;)

If this is true then grats to the PS3 crowd, I will wait and see as this could be something as simple as laziness on Biowares part for not deleteing the PS3 code out of the UE3 engine and just giving it a numeric placeholder instead.

Are you implying that Microsoft doesn't own Windows operating systems? :?

I own XBox 360.

I say let them have it. And ME1 too. It really doesnt harm anyone and the more people who play this game the better.. Although hopefully if they get Mass Effect Super Awesome Addition then we'd get the extras in DLC or something.

Oh, and:

// BIOSTART - Zousar Shaker - May 15, 2009

// These flags reduce startup time and hitches on the PC caused by

// shader creation. Will not change behavior on the consoles.

Consoles ?

Microsoft have an exclusivity contract on the Mass Effect licence.
