Hello. I have a problem with Mass Effect 2, and i need your help.

My configuration:

Processor - Intel Core2Duo E4500 2.20GHz
RAM - 2GB DDR 2
Graph. Card - GeForce 8600GT

So let's get to the point - when i start ME2 it all goes smooth, no slowdowns on Normandy SR1 and cinematic cuts, but when the escaping from Cerberus base mission starts and Shepard gets up from a table game starts to slow down. It's not that hardcore-kind slowdown that makes playing impossible but it's really annoing. And here are something interesting - when i enter Normandy SR2 (like after any mission, when game jumps you straight to the ship to talk to recruited guy) the game slows down A LOT. And i mean a lot, it's like watching a slide-show. But... minimizing with alt+tab and going back to game fixes it. It's not slide-show anymore, but still in the annoing-kind stage. I also noticed that when i take elevator to my room on Normandy the game again became a slide-show, and when i press ESC the screen in menu flashes black.

And another interesting thing - yesterday i finished ME1 again, and jumped right into ME2 to start again with my character. After save import and starting a new game i noticed that there are absolutely NO slowdowns. Everything works fine, no flashing menus, no Normandy entering problem, absolutely smooth play. I even quitted the game and started again and it worked just fine. But i had to go to sleep, and when i woke up and turned my computer on the ME2 started to slow down again.

I tried different types of DirectX versions, drivers, even playing ME1 before ME2 and nothing helps. I hope you got some ideas.

EDIT: Oh, i forgot to add - im using Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

I just tried lowering the resolution, but unfortunately it didn't help.

I hope the patch will come out soon.

Update:

Game crashes from time to time, and i've found in my Documents&Settings/username/my documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/Bio Game/Logs a file named "unreal-v3607-2010.01.28-21.09.29.dmp" - i tried to read it with WinDbg and inside i've found this:

Executable search path is:

I think the key is "Access violation - code c0000005 (first/second chance not available)" but i'm not sure about it.

Any ideas now?

Problem solved.

Propably it was caused by PhysX, because when i disabled "PhysX GPU acceleration" for Mass Effect 2 in nVidia Control Panel every problem i had with ME2 went to hell. So, at least i can enjoy this great game with no technical issues.

How did you disable "PhysX GPU acceleration"? I have the same problem and I can't find it. Thx

open nvidia control panel in advanced mode and under "3D settings", you'll find the option to configure PhysX
