Yeah, I pause aim biotics/tech cause I don't see why not (have to pause to mouse click anyway, they aren't skill based since it's not location based damage, 9/10 it's squadie biotics/tech so why should I have to screw up my weapon aim just to have them use their powers on someone other than whoever I'm shooting) never pause aim weapons.

You were talking about the Claymore, yet in the video use the Katana?  Not really proving anything doing it that way.  You also almost die every time you get into range to use the shotgun, so again...not really proving anything and it also looks like you're letting Jacob just run around using a shotgun vs armored enemies.  There's also nothing wrong with pausing and rarely anyone, if anyone can always launch abilities on targets without fail and you have to do it to manually control squad members anyway most of the time.

I used the katana in this vid cause it's a new vanguard in this video and thus he doesn't have access to the claymore. Using the katana served two purposes, one, people **** and moan that the katana is underpowered, I use it just fine in that vid and two it's actually an INFERIOR weapon to the claymore, so if anything it bolsters my point. It does less damage, and has less ammo and yet I killed most things in that vid with it and never once ran out of ammo. As for almost dying, almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades, the point is I DIDN'T die, used charge often, relied almost entirely on the shotgun, and never ran out of ammo on a shotgun with 15 rounds. So with that said, how do you figure the vid proves nothing?

Heres a few questions:

Heavy Incinerate or Incineration Blast (splash)?

Is Miranda's Slam worth speccing?

Heavy Reave or Area Reave?

How does Warp Ammo fair against armor/health/barriers on insanity? Whats the better alternative if any?

Heavy Pull or Pull Field?

Heavy Throw or Throw Field?

Heavy Overload or Area Overload?

These are all questions for higher difficulties of course. Thanks for your time!

Heavy Incinerate. Area Incinerate is too situational to forego the damage increase that heavy does.

One point into Slam is enough. You only want it for its CCing abilities, not its damage.

Heavy Reave is probably better in the long run, but Area Reave is pretty good because it can immobilize more than one enemy at a time, making them easy pickings.

I can't say for sure how effective it is, but Reave is probably the better option.

Pull Field. You should only be using pull for its CCing.

I use Area Overload, because heavy is only optimal on enemies that require more than one Overload cast to take their shields down.

Area reave is great for groups of husks. They are always packed together very tightly so an area reave kills their armor then they are vulnerable to a shockwave or whatever or aoe ability you want to use.

Just melee husks, you can do it easily without getting hit, they die really fast, and you don't waste ammo.

@ whoever said it takes 6 shots to kill Scions, I don't know what you're doing but it only takes me 2 or 3 if I miss a headshot with the Widow.

I think melee isn't the way to go, because it does peanuts for damage and they could conceivably get you into a corner or flank you and you're **** out of luck. You're better off spraying and praying with the SMG if you're not tossing Shockwaves around.

Oh I just like seeing people who defend Adepts as being useful and not over nerfed. Then they make a class optimization thread, and there are no posts about Adepts. It's just lovely in an ironic way. Unless I missed a post which did, in which case I will retract my statement.

If you're referring to me, I'm not an "adept defender". I've never played as one in ME2. That said, there has been plenty of discussion about the Vanguard, which is similar to the Adept in biotic capability. You should join in on the discussion in a constructive way.

I thought the Claymore was similar to the Widow in that it trades ammo reserve for power, so wouldn't it have the least among all the weapons?  Even if that's not the case, you still didn't really show much other than how fragile the Vanguard is, even if the gun packs a punch and you don't run out of ammo.  You're not actually shooting all that much compared to what you could be using from another form of attack.  I'd love to see a video by MG since he's saying how he felt like it was god mode, and I'm not saying he didn't find a way to make it so, I just want to see it.

Wouldn't this very same logic apply to Incinerate?

I'm definitely NOT an Adept defender, and there's really nothing to discuss that wasn't said a thousand times already in the 40+ page on the subject.  Adept on Insanity = Singularity/Warp/Nemesis or Reave/Warp/Nemesis and that's it.

Your right. I should, and will.

As an Adept you need to know 2 things.
Heavy Warp.
Wide Singularity.
Bastion/Nemesis is necessary. I prefer nemesis, otherwise warp is not as good as it could be without the dmg boost.

Take armor focusing in shields first, and then Biotic power. Blood Dragon Armor is a god send. That's it. Maybe take lift for fun when their health is gone to have a cool finishing move once in awhile.

Well, I guess I would count as a quasi adept then, since I have a low level adept on insanity and usually role with biotic squadmates. I stopped playing my adept after picking up Jack cause I thought it was kind of boring and went back to charging around and shotgunning stuff in the face with my vanguard.

I took reave as my bonus ability and brought Miranda and Jacob as my sqaudmates. Average fight was slightly different depending on whether targets were armored or shielded. If armored mass reave would take care of the majority of armor, which is where a mass warp would have been nice but I had Miranda specialized in overload since I knew I wouldn't have any powers to take down shields myself. At the midgame I would have swapped out Jacob for Samara and flung biotics around the battle field like nobody's business. Have Miranda cast mass warp, Samara mass reave, myself heavyshockwave and just watched things bounce around and die kinda like I did on hardcore with my vanguard. Only difference being on hardcore one mass reave would have done the job. Oh well, I still don't think adepts got screwed all that much.

Seems to be a lot of singularity advocates, but I'm just not seeing it at all except for Husks and a few synthectic missions.  Most enemies just aren't clumped up enough to where one to two points in it won't take care of them the majority of the time.  The extra 7 points for such a small gain overall in radius just seems like a waste.  It lasts long enough anyway that anything that's running right to you will get hit by it and you'll be able to use 1-2 cooldowns before having to recast it.

I also think builds that are listed as "optimal" should stop at 25 if you intend on playing from level one on Insanity. The last 2-3 levels you'll get just don't really do anything at that point because you'll be at the end of the game already.

It does, but it's off-set by the fact that by the time you get you'll already have gotten the ammo boosts from research. I think the assault shotgun comes with 35 whereas the claymore only gets 20 with ammo mods. Either way, the point is, 20 is more than 15 and if I don't run out with 15 I'm sure as hell not going to run out with 20.

And again with this nonsense about the video not proving anything. How many times did I use charge and die? Never. How many times did I use charge and kill things? Plenty. Charge is not useless on insanity, ammo is not an issue on insanity, vangaurds in general are fine on insanity. That's what I showed in that video.

Yeah, I get what you're saying about the ammo, I wasn't really considering the upgrades you could have had by the time you got the Claymore and was thinking more about the base stats. How many times did you use charge and die?  Maybe you should watch it again, because what I saw was a charge immediately followed by red veins.  I never said you died, I said you almost died every time.

Watching it again just keeps having me think "Now if he was only an Infiltrator, he could have simply head shot something with a cloak on and not ended up in the crossfire of a group of enemies every time".  I've yet to see anything that disproves the Vanguard being a poor man's Adept on Insanity.  The class concept seemed like so much fun, but in practice the only time you can really use it's class defining ability seems like to finish off almost dead enemies or once you've used everything other than charge to thin out the room enough so that you won't instantly get shredded and have to sit there waiting for life to return.

But I didn't, therfore charge is fine. It all comes down to style of play, maybe I find sniping to be boring, and I don't care that sometimes I get red lines on my screen. I LIKE charging across the field of battle and hitting something up close and personal with a shotgun. To me, that's funner that sniping things from a safe distance, and it gets the job done.

Well if you find all risk vs almost no reward fun then keep at it.  The concept looked fun, but it's very tedious for the reasons in my edit.

Most of the guys I charged were at full health/armor. Then they died. How on earth is that no reward? What you are asking for ezmode. Hell, the very last thing I did was take on 3 guys after a charge into cover with no help from the squad except for a warp at the beginning on one target.

It's not a reward when all you did was use your body as a grenade launcher that almost suicides you.  And no you "didn't die" in that particular fight, but there are plenty where you wouldn't be able to charge like that.  It's also hard to see how much life any enemy you charged had before you charged them but you never actually one shot anyone that was at full life. You still had to shoot/melee them again.  In this spirit of this thread, that's not an opitmal way to play.  And no, I'm not discussing whether or not you find that fun.

And when did I ever say I could one shot anyone? I specifically said two shot.

p.s. I could record every mission in the game, they all have plenty of opportunities to charge.

Warp or AP ammo is good choice as well in my experience.
