I'm from Aus and it definitely aint an Aussie accent. Maybe British quite a while ago, but you lose your accent over time when you travel as much as him. For some reason I always imagined him as Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden's vocalist) in heavy armour xD

Let's just call it badass :bandit:

Anyways, it's the future in space. There probably wouldn't ever be that many different accents, or ever races of human, around by then. It's just for character =]

EDIT: WAITWAITWAIT! I know who he reminds me of. Ozzy Ozbourne with a bigass gun =] think about it.

Shep: You idiot, now this place is gonna blow!

Zaeed: ... The what's gonna huh? That bastards guna- *random nonsense*

Shep: *sigh*

This is a very good point. It's clearly a cockney accent, but bear in mind, Captain/Admiral/Councillor Anderson was also born and raised in London. Accents don't mean anything. I remember reading an article once, about how the number of people with cockney accents was something stupid like 10 times bigger than the population of London. Which I believe led to the term "mockney". He might just think he sounds cool =P

Sounds like a London accent to me. If Zaeed was Australian head be a barman not a mercenary.

Err, what's that meant to mean?

Rumor on the net is that the voice actor is Robin Sachs.. yet he has no credit for it on IMDB.. then again there is no credit for zaeed at all on IMDB. If it is robin sachs he was born in London..

Im pretty sure its the same Voice Actor who plays Murdock in the Redcliffe Village in Dragon Age... For all those who is interested, i think hes modelled off John Nettles too (Midsummer Murders, if you can you believe it!!)

Anywyas...Just an FYI
Zaeed's voice over was done by Robin Sachs. Many of you will recognize him from Galaxy Quest where he played General Sarris. He also did VO work for Dragon Age: Origins.

Its definitely a London accent - East or South London to be precise.

It's quite common for Americans in particular to be unable to tell the difference between that and an Australian accent for some reason - just not attuned I guess. Like that episode of Only Fools and Horses.....

Why do people keep saying it's an Australian accent? it sounds nothing like it. The English and Australian posters in this thread have said already what it is. Can Americans really not tell the difference?

Clearly us Americans need to watch more Guy Ritchie movies.

And I think the inability to hear the distinction is less impressive than insisting that its Australian despite being told otherwise by people who actually live there.

Go us.

surprise surprise

when you don't live amongst two different groups of people or have much personal experience with them you can't understand the difference in their accents

Something else you should be informed, we don't all talk like Texans. ;)

East London accent, roughly.

It's not "cockney". That'd mean he was wandering around talking like the Artful Dodger all the time and using rhyming slang.

I always thought cockney was the broad term for East End accents. It's not just Chim Chiminy and Viva la France as they Say in Rome.

Tell him to sing instead of talk and then he's magically crystal clear.

I could swear it's the same guy who voiced Mayor Murdock in DA:O. If it makes you feel any better, I'm American and I definitely did NOT think that it was an Australian accent - that's just silly talk.

It is a working class (East) London accent. Australians can at times sound similar as they were orginally a penal colony made up mostly of... you guess it the English poor working class. South Africans sound more like a native Dutch speaker speaking English, seeing how they are a former Dutch colony it isn't all that surprising.

I am from Manchester and I currently live in North America, Canada to be exact, and I cannot tell you how many time I have been told my accent is from anywhere but Manchester. I'll never forget a trip I took with my parents to Los Angeles and mum was talking to us, some random American lady came up to her and said, "You sound just like Sheena Easton (who was a hot recording artist at that moment). You have a such a beautiful accent." Me mum just thanked her not even bothering to mention that Sheena is Scottish. The only accent I have found that is universally recognized in North America is Liverpudlian and that is from the Beatles.

I asked because it's not the first time I've known Americans confuse the two. We had a weekend break in Amsterdam and got talking to an American couple in a bar and they thought we were Australians.
