Most will say big deal, but I was proud, actually I found it easier than Flemeth.

I made a mistake though.  I was standing in the wrong place in the center of the area when I used the horn.  High Dragon landed facing the Ruined Temple and my PC 2h'd Warrior (equipped with a crossbow), Morrigan, and Wynne.  Shale was on the other side in front of the entrance to  the building where you take a pinch of or defile Andraste's ashes.

As a result, and before Shale could taunt her enough to turn her around,  the dragon let out a big belch of fire and toasted Wynne right off the bat.  But the fight  went smooth other than that.  No big deal, but to me it was peachy!

The High Dragon always lands on me when I use the horn.  It seems like the dragon lands on anyone who uses the horn.

Nice job.

Yeah, you have to use it and run. Grats on the clean kill.

Thanks folks,

Brutus decided he didn't want to get chomped on and tossed around like a rag doll, so he hightailed it back to camp and poked Shale with the control rod and bribed her with a small clear ice crystal to take the brunt of the dragon's attack. Typically, depending on situation, I've been running with the 2h warrior as tank, Morrigan, Dog (I named him Beavis 8P), and either Leiliana or Zevran. If I think it might get hairy, I drop dog and bring in Wynne. But that's the line up I like with this guy. Love you all's posts. Keep up the good work.

Why did you use an ice crystal? I'm now confused...

Good job though, I ended up being a loser and using the, "run back and forth while shooting once with a bow/mage staff when the dragon lands a few feet from you and then jumps up again and lands out of range again because you moved", method.

I took no damage after both Sten and Morrigan died, I just said screw this, your AI sucks and you're going down.

So congrats on being better than me! :D

The High Dragon always seems to get stuck on the gong for me.

Yes, I play on PC and Korgrim drops a Horn, champion or something or other, I forget, that you use to summon him.

*High Magus* ---The small clear ice crystal was just a %cold damage upgrade I had recently found to switch out with what I had Shale with currently. The *bribe* was just me interjecting that as a character RP story.

*grin*

I killed the High Dragon once so far (going to do it again with my Human Noble Templar/Champion (for the obvious RPing reasons)), with my 2H warrior. Got picked up by the dragon, but 'in-flight' my char finished his attack, thereby killing the dragon. So I got the pick-up, but then suddenly the dragons neck started to waver. Sadly enough I didn't take screenshots....

There was I thinking that the animation had gotten into a loop, till I realized it was a kill. Finishing move was being leaped up by the dying dragon (so got thrown up above their neck), with an mid-air slash on it's neck. One of the best death scenes so far. Really a shame I forgot the screenshots.

Kinda like this:

- That's Flemeth, but I think all dragons are the same.  That was an especially bloody kill too.

Yup, like that, with the exception I used an 2-Hander instead of S&S

Odd, I've killed it in two playthroughs and it has never landed on me. Maybe it is because of my preference for pointy helmets :)

I just got my first no lyrium potion or health poultice solo kill against it (I used some greater warmth balms but they don't count).

Whenever I hit the gong, the dragon lands off in the distance and I have to run to them.  My first several attempts were disasters, but recently, they were uneventful.  I just charge with my tank and try to get the dragon to turn and face me, away from my party members (Leliana, Wynne and Morrigan), so they don't get hit with the fire attacks and I also try to back up so they don't get hit with the dragon's melee tail attacks.  My dwarf is the only one who takes damage usually and I just keep the taunts coming and my finger ready to hit quick heal in case of a grab.

I've been having great success on my latest playthrough against the dragons.

THE easiest way is to have Shale tank (Nature Crystals are probably better than the fire ones, 'cause the dragons only use fire attacks at range most of the time) in Stone Heart, using Taunt, Stone Roar whenever possible, with Threaten activated. I used 3 range attackers, and I strongly recommend this. Even if your PC is a 2h Warrior, switch them to a Crossbow or something for the fight. In melee, the dragons attack everyone.

Shale is the best tank, because he's immune to grabs. With Heal + Regeneration, Shale will be fine.

Anyways, killing that High Dragon is not hard, even Nightmare mode. Imagine a tank & spank fight just like in World of Warcraft:

Your tank has mainly to keep aggroing the dragon, while turning the boss' back to your DPSers for further damage (ranged damage dealers like mages or archers are the best for this fight).

Use pots for buffing your party members (attack speed, armor, ecc), and put Wynne or Morrigan to heal your tank heavily.

Mission accomplished.

I did not find the dragon difficult. I had a party avg. level 14 and the party was not geared towards this battle. I had me (2HD warrior) Wynn, Zev and Lil.

Lil was the weakest link because I have her setup as a pickpocket/lockpick/ranged rogue. She lacks any good damage dealing potential.

Zev would have great damage dealing potential but I had to resort to having him ranged as well (which he lacks any skills for) because if he is next to the dragon then the dragon kills him too quick with his AOE type attacks.

Wynn was very important and my main PC was the most important as I had full juggernaut armor and the Yuserian sword (the one with + vs. dragons). It was basically my PC hacking away and Wynn healing/buffing him/debuffing the dragon (she has hexes)
