Sign me up on this!

I swore when I saw the same gimmick for the character creation. The lighting felt  better to me but only being able to somewhat see in 4 directions... I had to restart a bunch of times, it took me 1h30-2h just to get to something not repulsive.

"This looks peachy!" and after you take control of Shepard (both ME1 and ME2) : "Good GOD what IS that?!"

Especially the cheeks, cheekbones and jaw. You can't gauge them correctly from the front or completely from the side. We need a 3D rotation and then it's all good.

Having to start from scratch when customizing your imported character is prettty bad too. I can live with it but I also would have loved to have my ME1 face in there and only change the hair or something.

The only option is to start a whole new game just like in ME1 with an unskippable intro (that's now twice as long) yet again!.

Oh god yes.... This is indeed a huge blunder on Bioware's part. I am not very critical of ME2, but this just makes me angry.

If I want to experiment with a a new face, I have to sit through the entire opening sequence, which as you pointed out is not skippable. What were they thinking? Seriously, I would never have expected this kind of stupidity from Bioware.

My biggest peeve is instead of being able to tweak an import character's face it automatically reverts to the basic face so you get to start again or stare at the same screw ups you made in the first game.

How about they just make it so it's more like the Dragon Age character creator? As in, making it so we can look at the face from any angle we want. That's the simplest solution, and really the only change necessary (AND it's the way they should have had it from the beginning). If we could look at Shepard's face from any direction/angle, we wouldn't have Shepards with big foreheads, sunken eyes, huge chins, and pyramids implanted at their cheekbones.

Haha, you can add fish lips and caveman brows to that list as well ;-). Re-coding the face creator though would take a lot more work than just implementing something basic like an autosave before character creation, but I agree it definitely should have been given an overhaul for ME2. Heck, all that was really needed was a bit more camera control and adjustable lighting.

Anyway, let's keep the ball rolling guys!

Agreed - Bioware could just release a patch adding "Face alteration" to the Armor alteration screen in teh captain's quarters. Would save players a big headache.

That could be implemented as a once-off kind of thing, where an autosave/manual save is created just beforehand. Then you would edit your face and lock it in permanently. If you still aren't satisifed, you can just reload, enter the identity code of the previous face then edit again.

The problem with that is you don't access your quarters until well after character creation though.

I reloaded three times in my second playthrough, but I had a code to work off.

I was also trying to find the right class.

Being able to try out a class before having the option to change would be nice. :)

But yes, it is very annoying, a simple autosave would fix it.

I would be happy if I could look at the face of the character at different angles outside of looking them a foot away..

Agreed! My first thoughts after the introduction were: WTF, each time I want to create a new Shepard, do I have to view everything?. Something should be done because it's really hard to imagine how your custom shepard is going to look outside the character creator.

While Bioware implements this (if it's implemented) there's a savegame editor made by Gibbed, it lets you change your face, export and import faces and it's really a time-saver. More important, you can unlock with the editor Kelly's hair and some other hairs that looks great,

I unequivocally agree with everything that has been posted in this thread.

Or better yet, make the med station upgrade let you change your face

Also, this. Once I found out how much of a cumbersome pain in the ass it was to tweak Shepard's face, I just gave up and stuck with my imported face. Now I'm already a fair bit through the game.

One more thing: Does anyone else find the identity codes provided in the squad menu for your imported Shepard to be completely useless for tweaking? I tried copying the code from the squad menu and then using it in a new game (hooray for unskippable cutscenes) in order to edit my imported Shepard but it came out all wrong. Most sliders were off by a few levels. To think that all I wanted was to make some fine adjustments...

Argh, damn you PC players!. I should have done more research, because I knew something like that would be created sooner or later. I'd be more than happy to add a link to the first post if anyone has it handy. No problem, found it here: www.annakie.com/me/mods.htm

I guess that sorts out the PC players then. Still out of luck on the 360 and I'm worried about this talk of the identity codes not reproducing faces properly. Has anyone else experienced that?. Maybe having a save before the face creator isn't such a good idea then, over other possible implementations.

Luckily you can use -nostartmovies for the PC version and getting to the Face Creation doesn't take that long - but I really wish you could save beforehand.

What's this now?

It appears to be a shortcut icon parameter, or a .ini file command. Thing is, that looks more like a command to just disable the Bioware/EA logos at the start, rather than the entire opening. I can't find anything on google for it. Please correct me if I'm wrong though!

Seems to be a code you put into the properties of your ME2 shortcut to skip the intro if I'm guessing correctly. Alternatively, you can replace (not delete or your game will not load) all the .bik files associated with the game intro with blank .biks.

There's a link to a guide on this page I posted previously www.annakie.com/me/mods.htm. The main site is a repository for ME1 savegames, originally set up for the Mass Effect 2 thread on the Something Awful forums.

Agreed.
A mid-game option wouldn't be necessary if it were an autosave and we were allowed to skip the cinematic. My first face, a near carbon copy of my ME1 face, looked fine but then, not long into the actual game, I noticed quickly that there were some features that didn't translate well into ME2.. So I had to wait through the long beginning again.

I understand how they could say they want us to experience the intro. It's cool. I enjoyed it. But after a few fresh starts it gets a little tiring having to wait it out.

Exactly!. I love the opening, there are some absolutely breathtaking scenes, but eventually the unskippable cutscenes REALLY start to grate. I care very much about my ME1 Shepard, to me the games are one big journey and having a face that matches in ME2 is crucial to feeling engaged with my character and her over-arching story. Having some demented face in ME2 spoils that. Currently, ironing out the kinks, especially on a brand new face, is only possible through repeated reloads which just sucks.

How can we use this code using the Steam platform?
I know there is a tweak so we can add a command line to the shortcut, but then, the intro still goes on...
