Well, I work in the industry and most of the solutions provided by the OP are basicaly impossible to implement at this stage. But there is one that would work - developing an independent Character Editor to get an ID Code to enter on ME2. A working ME1 ID Code (that doesn't recreate a completely random face) would also be nice.

An independent character editor? Could you be more precise?

Even with an independant face creator, we would still have to start a new game over & over again to tweak Shepards appearance via the in-game face creator unless the program offered some kind of in-game preview, like a small test room with different lighting options.

Great idea. An enhanced version of DAO's stand-alone creator with some preview talking, lightsettings and anim would be great and (presumably) kills the need to dramatically alterate the main game code.

I hope you guys don't mind, but I've changed the thread title again to be a bit more direct and attention grabbing. It's just that the previous one didn't seem to be working very well in terms of picking up support. I've also sent off a second email to Bioware (massinfo@bioware.com) with the message below:

"I would like to bring your attention to a thread on the Bioware Social Network forums that I created over 3 weeks ago regarding an issue with character customization in Mass Effect 2. In a nutshell, the preview that players see in the face creator does not accurately resemble what Shepard will actually look like in-game due to the limited head control & lighting scheme, forcing players to start a new game from scratch over & over again just to make small tweaks; exactly the same problem as in ME1. It is even more pronounced now because the opening is over 12 minutes long. As evidenced in the now 5-page thread, this is causing a great deal of frustration among players, as it has been since Mass Effect 1.

On behalf of the fans of Mass Effect, I ask if you would consider some of the solutions to the problem that have been posted in the thread for inclusion in any upcoming patches. Placing an autosave before the face creator during the introduction would be a great improvement and allow players to quickly create the exact face they want using the identity code feature you have implemented. Even just being able to tweak our imported ME1 face rather than having to start from the base default face would alleviate the issue for many players. Alternatively, a way to skip through the non-interactive parts of the opening would be greatly appreciated.
"

If any of you guys want to send it off your own copy to Bioware, that would be awesome. Every bit helps.

I'm not going to give up on this.

EDIT: Also, here is the BBCode for my signature. Click 'Quote' on this post, then click 'BBCode' on the next screen and copy-paste the text below. Support the cause!
Shepard's face not turn out the way you expected after character creation in Mass Effect 2?
Tired of starting a new game over & over again just to make a few small tweaks?
Let's change that! -> Face Creation is Extremely Frustrating Due to Unskippable Intro Cutscenes

Surely it should be easy enough to patch that once you have unlocked the bonuses for finishing the game the intro fmv becomes skippable? I'm no coding expert but surely this isn't hard to do for some body that gets paid to code all day?

I'm all for making that intro skippable for other reasons. Namely for some reason the game freezes up on the load screen just before face customisation unless I'm playing directly from the disc.

All that deleting and reinstalling plus having to go through that damn intro sequence several times before I can actually get into my new game is really putting me off future playthroughs.

Agree with OP. Intro is extremely long. Wish I could skip it.

$50 says none of this will ever be implemented in the future.

Also as bad as it is to wait to get to character creation, I'm more irritated by the general lack of decent customization options.

This is why we need a toolset for ME. I made my main in DA:O using the toolset.

<-----

An auto-save feature or a skippable intro would be amazing too.

OP has a very strong point. How should Bioware address the issue, here's my thoughts.

Don't introduce a face change option inside the game. It would be very unrealistic. You have to stick to the face you chose in the beginning.

So the solution would be a character creator system, accessible from the opening screen. I haven't played Dragon Age and from what I'm reading it sounds like something similar to this. My idea would be that you could create any number of character faces you choose and build your own gallery of presets. You should have an option to see the character in full view in a small testing room with dynamic lighting before saving.

Then, when you started playing ME2 (or 3), you could choose one of the characters from your personal gallery or create a character from scratch (as it happens right now). From that point on, and through the whole story, you wouldn't be able to edit that character anymore.

Reasonable?

My forum handle is Lord Abrasion and I endorse this message.

Crap lighting during character creation is inexcusable and having to sit through the intro every time is just plain frustrating. Even the fact that I can't skip the logos when starting up the game is annoying me.

While I always play with the default Shepard (male or female), I fully support this thread. I'm especially in favor of a "Skip Intro" option, since this is an annoyance that extends beyond face design. It was cool the first two times, but by this point, it's just a pointless waste of time when I'd like to get to the actual game...

Just the other day I wondered, why didn't they correct all those things in ME1 that people complained about so much - namely not being able to skip the cutscenes in the beginning, not being able to see the face from all sides, etc etc! It's obviously a big deal for many ppl to create the face that they want.

Really wish that you could have a good look at your character after the creation, and that the creation was as good as Dragon Age...

I gave up and just used the default.

They should have a "retrain face" option in the research terminal

Agreed

even the option of getting a character code for my ME1 faces would make me very happy

I think I started ME1 about 50 times to get 2 decent faces

in ME2 I just gave up after 4 or 5 intros and imported my ME1 characters witch resulted in a lot of carreers with the same name(adept, sentinel, paragon, ...) witch is probably gonna be a lot of 'fun' importing to ME3, certainly if the intro keeps growing as it did.

I can understand you make it unskippable the first time, it really threw me of my feet but after the third, well you get the point

then I discovered gibbed massEffect2SaveEdit

http://mod.gib.me/ma...eedit_rev25.zip

still would be nice to be able to tweak those faces though

agreed! and i would love and in-game "tailor" to go to to do some tweaking, or chnge hair styles. it's a long wait in the opening to labor over a face that doesn't end up looking the way you thought it would. this is my only real gripe about the game. thank OP!

wierzbowski88, I'm actually glad to see you're really motivated concerning this issue!

I hope that Bioware will pay attention to this very accurate thread...
