Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a while. I was still replaying ME1 up until about a month ago (working fulltime doesn't leave a lot of gaming time!), so when I had finally finished and created a face I liked, I really just wanted to play ME2 and move away from the whole face creator thing for a little bit (also interested to see if the thread could revive itself without me bumping every day!). It got to the point where I was running the introduction of ME2 in the background as soon as I got home from work and just guiding Shepard where necessary and hammering (X) to get to character creation. It took about a dozen reloads until I was satisfied, but at least I never had to actually waste time waiting around, unlike the poor people who were ready to start playing at launch.
During my tinkering with ME2's face creator I discovered a very interesting bug with imported ME1 Shepards. Once in the Character Creator, if you scroll down and enter the facial presets screen, select a face, then go back out and instead choose your imported face, you will be assigned the preset face's identity code in the squad screen once ingame!. I tested this with two faces and took pictures as proof (apologies for the bad quality).
First preset face, with ID code on the bottom left:
Here is my squad screen once ingame:
Second preset face:
Squad screen again with preset face code:
Squad screen after straight import:
Yes my Shep is named Leeloo, what of it?
My guess is that imported faces are not assigned an ID code simply because the customization screen is bypassed when importing, which is just bizarre. This would explain why the ID bug occurs; by accessing the custom face screen, a code is generated, which then persists even if you back out and select a straight import.
After really trying think about this lately from the perspective of the devs, I've come up with a theory on why this wasn't addressed; our suggestions are WORKAROUNDS for a problem, not SOLUTIONS. During production of ME2, if the dev team admitted internally that there was a problem within their own software carried over from ME1, it would obligate them to fix the problem, not create a workaround before the product had even been launched. However, fixing the problem would involve adding 360' zoom/rotate & variable lighting to the face creator, because THAT is the solution. THAT is the way it should have been planned from the start. Then they could legitimately ask "why would players need to re-access the creator/restart first level from face creator/skip intro etc etc. if we have a face preview there for them?."
This is all we need:
For existing ME1 players > assign a face code to imported faces.
For everyone > in the first Cerberus Base, modify the "Restart Mission" option in the Load menu to restart at Character Creation. The cutscenes afterwards are skippable so players could be back in-game within seconds, saving an immense amount of time.
Anyone else encountered this bug?

I'm looking for a such editor (so, external). I learned of Gibbed Save Editor rev25 and read about it. It says it could save/change heads but I don't know whether I can EDIT (mesh/bones/texture) them.
Please, whoever has the knowledge, tell me if it's possible and the directions. I'd be interested in ME1 if possible. If not, at least in ME2.
Is there a way to export the head to an editable 3d object in 3DMAX or alike and then put it back in the game?
If I'll succeed, I promise I'll buy all the series ME unlimitedly.
In my oppinion, the intro movies needn't been encountered unless you want to edit your head. So the editing the head ONCE and for good but with the mention <doing it PERFECT> should solve the intro movies too. They're ment for single watch. Why skip them? Why editing the face later? So do it at the very start and do it perfect. So the built-in editor isn't a match for the high standard to be stuck with the initial head. So instead of lowering the standard, raise the quality to match the standard
Thanks in advance.

Afterwards, access both current and new saves with Modio, extract the save files, then open up Gibbed's editor. Load the new save, go to Toolbox, click Export and save the head morph as a file. Next, open up your current save but this time, select Import in the Toolbox and choose the head morph file you saved earlier. Load it all back into Modio, and rehash/resign .
Your changes will be reflected instantly when you load up the current save in ME2 :-). It's not much better, but at least the Normandy has well lit dialogue scenes for testing purposes, like talking to Chakwas.

It would be nice if we could get a separate character creator for ME2 as they did with Dragon Age, so you could design your Shepard, copy the face code (that was a great idea by the way) and then start the game... It wouldn't hurt to be able to do a 360 view of your Shepard as well.

Nothing like spending half an hour tweaking a face only to be totally crushed when you realize their cheekbones stick out like side view mirrors, or their forehead looks like a water balloon.

Here's the general consensus from Bioware - If we can't charge you for it, we don't give a ****.
Huh? Did they charge money for the patches? Did they charge money for the Cerberus Network (assuming you bought ME2 new)? Did they charge money for the dozen small additions for DA? Did they charge money for the Toolkit? Musta ninja'd my bank account while I wasn't watching.
BW creates some of the best games out there, and their Customer Service isn't that bad. I've seen worse. Lots worse. Derogatory statements like that don't help. If you want to vent frustration, hit something. Or play a fast-paced, extremely violent first person shooter. Works miracles, I tell you
