Ok I am playing a soldier at this point in time and I have leveled my combat Mastery to the point where I have to decide between upgrading it to either Shock Trooper and Commando.

here are the stats.

Shock Trooper

health + 40%
weapon damage +7.5%
storm speed + 40%
paragon/renegade + 150%
power damage +15%

Commando

health 30%
weapon damage 15%
storm speed 50%
paragon/renegade +70%
power damage +15%

Now as you can see Shock Trooper seems to be the way better choice, now the only thing good about Commando is the weapon damage because in my opinion an extra 10% in storm speed is pretty useless. I want to choose Commando for role playing reasons but I really cant argue with the stats.

But what I want to know is what the paragon/renegade stat does? Does it increase dialogue options or does it effect the amount of points you get when performing a paragon or renegade action?

I am tempted to choose Commando simply for roleplaying reasons and the weapon damage because although a higher health stat is very useful I dont intend to get hit much, I would rather rely on clever use of cover rather than a higher health bar to soak up damage, if the paragon/renegade stat doesnt have that much of an effect on my game I will probably choose commando, but if it does I will have to choose shock trooper, as I said I cant argue with the stats.
