Sorry Victor, but it was going to happen, anyway.

Victor Wachter wrote...

For the European (as well as all PAL versions) release of Awakening on PS3, we will be releasing it only as download content, due to requirements from Sony. So you will be able to purchase, download and play, but it will not be available at retail.

I have a little bit of an issue with this...

Firstly, I am this happy I get to play Awakening at all Posted Image

Apparently, us "provincials" do mean something!

However... a dlc is nowhere near as reliable as a "hard copy" of a game.

As I mentioned on the original thread, what happens in a year or two when the systems change? A new system may be able to play old disks, but a service that is a download only is a different thing, and is not nearly in the same realm of security, IMO.

I am worrying about how long this will be on the net before the system changes, and the only people who can then play it in the future are the ones who own a disk.

There is a flip side to this - it is hard to find *any* disk copies of old games like KotoR in my country, so it may even have more integrity as a dlc.

It just seems that if Sony gave Bioware the choice of EU dlc or disk... why did you choose dlc? It feels... well... the cheaper option with an ability to blame Sony for making you choose.

Once again, though, I *am* this happy Posted Image to get to play it at all... I was worried there!

ive just said on another thread im not risking buying dlc from the playstation store basically i downloaded a £6.99 bit of content before christmas which didn't work i tried numerous times to get it to work i got fed up tried to get my money back and they refused so no way am i trusting them with £20+

i cant fault the game it was excellent but im cutting my losses and abandoning ship while i can still get good money for it

Yeah... good point.

The dlc for PS3 has been the *least* reliable of all the dlc that they have done for all systems... once again, this is Sony's fault.

However, they are now *choosing* to go the dlc route for the expansion.

This is categorically going to come out much later... and they will blame Sony.

This is simply the most unreliable choice they could have made.

Lastly... I am still *this happy* Posted Image that I get to play it at all...

i might look into buying awakening for the pc if i get really desperate i bought the collectors edition for the ps3 and half the bonus material didn't work on the system so they sent me the deluxe edition for the pc free of charge game included through the ea downloader but tbh there are so many good games coming out over the next few months anyway the money ive already saved up can be spent on a equally good game

while i do live in canada and will be able to snag the retail version of awakening, i feel for my gaming brethren 'across the pond'.

with all the conflicting posts by bioware concerning the rto 'bug-fixing' and sony's testing processes, i have a question:

WILL THE PC AND XBOX RETAIL DISC BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE TO THE EU (AND PAL) REGIONS???

you would think, since this is a sony decision, that it would not affect the retail version of bioware and microsoft (unless they decided to follow sony's lead).  i find it difficult to believe that sony would potentially risk sales by restricting an expansion to download only.

i find myself feeling trepidation about the future development and support of a game that was supposed to be equitable across ALL platforms.  to date, that has not proven to be the case.  i guess time will tell.

will i flip over to the pc version?  probably not.  i've spent my coin and had my fun.  it doesn't make much sense to spend an additional $90 for the "support security blanket".  i can't complain, though.  i've put in more time on da:o than i have on any game over the past couple of years.

sorry for the partial hijack...Posted Image

thanks, bryant. i guess we can call bioware's first foray into ps3 dev "less than a rousing success".
