Of the timeline.... And i go "wtf"? Apparantly he doesn't want to play one of the most epic games ever simply because the game isn't set in modern times.

So i told him off whats the point of playing games in modern time setting when you can friggin step out your door!!
He only seems to be interested in games like GTA it seems where it is all set in an american city.

Big loss, i cant believe he calls himself a gamer. I don't question his tastes but his rationale for refusing to play 80% of the games out there because of the timeline is absurd and incredibly irrational.

Ya, his loss and I wouldn't really consider him a 'gamer' anymore.

I just thought this would be interesting to share. Sure i have friends who don't want to play ME or ME2 because its not their style but i have never met or seen a "player" who refuses to play epic games like these simply because it is not set in 2006-2010 or modern times.

He refuses to play dragon age, fallout 3, oblivion, final fantasy all because of this, hell he didn't even want to play crysis because it was set in a jungle island and not an american city. Didn't even want to play any of the call of duty because most of it was in WWII and didn't play "modern warfare" either because it wasn't set in an american city.

wow really b/c pf the time line? who doesn't love the futuristic era? its awesome to play a game that shows what the future could be like/just how cool everything is. ppl who don't enjoy sci fi have no creativity or enjoy using there imagination imo. Modern day rpgs would get boring real fast.

I cant blame your friend for not wanting to play Final Fantasy, i personally HATE JRPGs, they are all too aingsty and lame, i mean seriously? using a sword against someone with assault rifles? :P

but yes, those other games are gold, and crysis takes place in "ultra modern" times lol

A modern day RPG wouldn't work imo, i told him that seeing its almost the same as stepping out of your door, chatting with friends about their problems or talk "kok" sing song.

Heh, won't play it because of the timeline... Well, I hope he enjoys that short (less than 10 hours for me) single-player campaign in CoD:MW2 then. *derisive snort* I picked that up from the elcor! :P

You could go Fox News on him and very casually mention blue alien ******.

I still can't believe how many of my guy friends bought ME1 after seeing that interview... better yet, they'd come up to me all surprised-like, saying, "That was a really good game!"

To which I reply, "Of course it was, you schmuck."

Just how many games have the "modern setting" anyway, not much i recall.

Absurd.

I've experienced something similar with Battlestar Galactica. Now, I know that some great scifi shows like Babylon 5 and Serenity are tough to recommend to non-sci-fi people, but Battlestar Galactica was one of the great survivor struggle stories and human drama's first and foremost, unseen before in television sci-fi format.

But, no luck. Setting can be a huge obstacle for immersive experience to very many people.
