@verwolf: You mentioned DX11 being installed. ME2 specifcally requires DX9.0c. Win7 is capable of runnign both versions side by side. Install DX9 from the disc, or from MS website if you have digital version.

@Hardolin: You havent registered the game on the forums. Until you do so, we cant be sure you are running a legit version, and not some buggy piece of crap you have downloaded via torrents. Register and we'll see what we can do to help you. If its a torrented version, go away and sort it out yourself.

@everyone else: Post your system specs so we know what we are dealing with. The "Read First" thread contains the info that is required on making a post that contains what we need to help you. It even contains pics on how to find out that info.

MassEffect2.exe 1.02.1604.00

Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz / 6 Gb RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 / 768 MB VRAM / 8.17.12.6099 driver version

ASUS Xonar D1 / 5.12.1.8 driver version

Windows 7 x64 Professional (6.1, Build 7600)

DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later

I'm also running dual monitors, the issue however didn't start until after I installed the DLC. I'm about 2/3rd's of the way through the game.

As I mentioned to verwolf, try installing DX9.0c, as thats the DX version that ME2 spefically requires. 10 wont do. Win7 is capable of running both side by side without issue. Dual monitors isnt an issue, as I have that set upon my rig (8600gts 512mb), and havent encountered any real issues with crashing or DLC.

You could also try rolling the video drivers back a revision, as some of the ater drivers can cause more headaches than fixes.

Thanks for your help Bogsnot

Hhhm interesting, I've been running the game perfectly fine for weeks now without any issues. The issues have only started since I downloaded and installed the DLC's today. I'll try installing/reinstalling DX9 but I don't think it's going to help.

The game runs fine until the moment I want/need to select my load-out...which is what makes me think it's the firepower DLC pack, as that would be the content being loaded at that point.

I also can't see rolling back the driver version doing anything either as the game runs until i try to access the piece of content, don't get me wrong...I'll try it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I haven't updated or changed anything on my system between playing the game this morning to installing the DLC that night. The only thing that has changed is that I have DLC installed.

I'll try starting a new game to see what happens. Also I bought the game on steam not the boxed retail version, I wonder if the whole steam version of the game + non-steam DLC is causing this issue?

You said the magic words. Steam. That version seems to be giving more errors than any other at the moment. I think they need to add "ing pile of crap" to the end of their company name.

Edit: If you have the time and resources, download the game from EA's digital distribution channel and see how that version goes. You will still have to apply the variouspatches etc, but so far it seems to be more stable and reliable than Steams.

After some investigation it seems that the crash only happens if I click on the assault rifle section of the load-out screen. The game runs fine if i just exit out of that without clicking on the assault rifle selection.

I've also managed to get it to allow me to play without the Arc and firepower packs installed (basically i don't get that "you can't continue because you don't have this DLC installed etc..." error message) However the whole clicking on the assault rifle crash still exists.

**UPDATE**

The game runs, with all the DLC's installed (the only thing i didn't get was the alternate costumes?), however you must not try to select an assault rifle for Shepard as this will cause the game to crash.

**SECOND UPDATE**

Game crashed on me while I was selecting a pistol for Shepard (One from the DLC pack), Now I'm lost and confused...going in circles here.

**THIRD UPDATE**

Crashed on me again, this time while selecting a shotgun for Shepard (Completely fine with other characters), I don't really want to purchase another copy of the game just to find that out and I've seen a few post from people reporting the same issue with the EA digital version.

I've also noticed a massive drop in performance and fps in the game, even with the settings turned to their lowest. I'll try rolling back drivers etc tomorrow/later today...jeez look at the time.

**SOLVED **

Well I think so anyway. I've definitely fixed the performance issues. I rolled my NVIDIA drivers back to 258.56 (The version that came on the driver disk with my card). This has completely solved any lag I had, the game now runs completely smooth for me at 1920 by 1080, all settings maxed out. I also tried re-installing DX9, although whether that has actually made a difference or not I'm not really sure.

As for the crash on selecting weapons, after starting a new game to check to see if this was an issue. I reloaded my actual save file not the auto save (As I always make actual saves rather than just relying on the auto-save) and the crashing seems to be completely gone. I can now select any weapon I want, including the ones that come in the DLC packs.

Thanks again for your help Bogsnot

No problems. I wouldnt be surprised if it was the drivers causing the hitches. Not exactly reknowned for providing drivers that fully support the hardware they are supposed to run.

Did you try any of the solutions mentioned above?

My game was doing that, and only on Shepard as well. I just reloaded my actual save file instead of the auto-save and it now works.

Evil O: If you havent bothered reading the "Read First" thread which I pointed out in an earlier post, theres not much that can be done to help you. Read it, make sure you meet the reqs, post your specs, and we'll see what we can do.

I made a forum about "what to put in ME2 1.03 patch (if one was made)" you could look for it an reply your complaints to the forum about this glitch to it, and if enough reply's are replied to it, bioware an EA Games will notice it an will have no choice but to make a new patch!

I had the same issue. I googled "nvidia drivers 266.58 known issues" and it seems that lastest nvidia drivers have some conflict with ASUS gamers software.

Then unistalling ASUS SmartDoctor and ASUS Gamer OSD fixed - for me - the weapon load issue.

I just got this game today and have the same problem as everyone else with the game completely locking up when trying to do the weapon loadout.

Specs

i7-870 @ 2.93Ghz

ASUS 5970 GPU

8gb Ram

Win7 64bit

Would be helpful if someone had a fix.

I can't agree even more about it!

if you have any ideas for ME2 (PC) Patch 1.03, here is a link to a forum called "what fixes they should put in ME2 (PC) Patch 1.03"

THIS WAS THE FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!

After un-installing smartdoctor and OSD no more crashing when trying to customize Shep's loadout.

While I never used OSD, I did have smartdoctor running all the time. I would have never guessed it would cause a conflict, and it's a handy program for controlling your clock speeds and cooling levels. I'll miss it.

None the less as soon as I ditched it, the crash is gone.

There must be something else interfering with it, as it has been shown that 3rd party software interferes with many aspects of ME2.

Try disabling everything in your system tray, wether its a desktop manager for video cards, extra functionality for sound cards, MSOffice quickstart, etc.

I have this problem every time I try to change the weapon load-out for Shepard. I'm not using a headset, but I am playing the Steam version on Windows 7 64-bit. I hope BioWare can come up with a solution.

Do you have any ASUS software loaded up on your machine, as has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread? If so, disable or uninstall it. With the single exception of FortKavanagh, that has been the cause, and fix, for everyone else suffering from this complaint.
Its not a Bioware issue, when it has been shown to be 3rd party software outside of Bioware's control to be causing the fault.
