In ME1 I was indifferent to Liara on M Shep and she was F Sheps romance. The problem I now face is that my Shepard's character trusts and loves his crew equally as family, he is just as likely to sacrifice his life for his love, Tali, as he is for Grunt, Kelly, Joker, or Kenneth Donnelly. Both Ashley and Liara betrayed his trust and soiled his opinion of them. In fact those two cameos as a whole were very poorly executed and more like Bioware saying we've decided to scrape the less popular characters and see if anyone cares.

Every Shepard is going to view Liara and Ashley's actions differently but in no way are Bioware getting rid of either character. My Shepard though Ash was a bit harsh but understood and she fell more in love with Liara once she Liara to explain what was going on with her. The scenes with them were designed to let them know you are alive but also add some conflict into the relationship so they wouldn't or couldn't join your mission and they could be alive for ME3. Which is why I wish they had left Tali and Garrus out as squad mates this time around because since they can die in ME2 I think it will mean much smaller roles for them in ME3 like Wrex, Ash and Kaidan got in ME2. I have no doubt Liara will be back in ME3 because she is the only squad mate Shepard has had who is guaranteed to be alive come ME3 no matter what choices you made.

A Liara DLC was mentioned since they revealed Redemption, so it's coming.

link, source?  I don't doubt you, but I'd like to see that.

And I don't NEED a love scene, I just really enjoy the unique love scenes of ME2 (though you could argue Liara's was unique in ME1), and I love the song, Reflections.  really powerful.

I would be more than happy with just some new dialogue that allows you to mentin your relationship.  Still, what if the "lead in" part just relates to leading in to Mass Effect 3? :crying:

I'm not even gonna try to sit and read all of this thread, on account of I've got work in two hours (yes, at 2:30 in the morning....), so I'll just say "Liara - **** yeah!" and leave it at that.

I seriously hope there will be Liara DLC, it's kind of annoying that I really can't interact with my Love Interest all that much even after the Suicide Mission

Worst case scenario for the DLC: it's just Liara sending you on another errand, with a few more lines of "neutralized" dialogue, perhaps another lukewarm kiss for the long suffering, yet still amorous Shepard.

We Liara fans are not high on Bioware's "give these people fanservice" totem pole.

I hope you're wrong.  Sure, the Talimancers got a huge WIN for themselves in ME2 (and good for them, I really like Tali after ME2), but don't count liara out.  She is, after all, the only Mass Effect character with a comic staring her, that fits in with a possible romance with Shepard depending on the connotations you assign certain segments.  She also had a bigger role than the Virmire survivor.

In likelyhood, some members of the Bioware team are as fond of her as we are.

You don't really need to be... Liara is pretty much the "canon" romance for Shepard, and she is a VERY important part of the story.  It is true you don't see much of her in ME2, but trust me, she will be big in ME3, especially if you romanced her.

She's pretty much the only character guaranteed to come back at the moment.

I like your thinkin!
I was really disappointed that we barely got to interact with Liara + Wrex. Liara must have a big role in ME3 (I'm hoping) since she's the only one who truly could not die right? :wizard:

I would love to see more in DLC, however, I don't want anything to take away from a role in ME3. I kind of would like that in the main game :)

Do people prefer the original, sweet and innocent flavor of Liara, or are you interested in the sequel’s, dark and edgier flavor of Liara?

dark and edgier, but still shows the sweet nature around Sheperd, imagine Liara from ME1 with the battle prowess of Jack or Samara

Ya, i kind of like Liara's new attitude to an extent. I think its great to see some character development. If she balanced out those traits I think it would be awesome. It would be wierd for her to now go back to being like she was in ME1. Also, I cannot wait to see what biotics she is given. I want to see some power!

Come back, yes. Having a major role? Signs are good, since they needed her to be alive in every ME3 game. As a squaddie... we can only hope.

Well as posts from other threads have said, ME3 is going to be the finale. I bet there is a very high chance Liara and Ash/Kaidan will through a mission or something rejoin you as a squadmate on the Normandy.

We shall see. The way they were handled in ME2 gives me no cause for optimism, even if the "we are sparing them for ME3" spiel turns out to be true.

honestly i dont think a DLC would be a good idea for this. Liara is such a deep character, but if they dont take the time to really make her part of the story its going to feel like the just tacked her on at the end to make a few extra bucks. If they do make a liara DLC, they need to take the time to pull her into the story as much as can be done, it needs to be seamless. on the otherhand a DLC were she does not become part of the squad and is infact realted more to a side quest would be interesting and work well, but they would need to have a good reason to have the main PC go on the side quest. ("sorry i cant save humanity and all the aliens (any word that includes all of this?) i need to go help my girlfriend with some sort of interesting but by comparison trival task."). Could they make it so doing the extra mission with liara unlocks a new weapon, tool, ME 3 advantage/ Disadvantage, or difrent method to compleat the suicide mission ( no more vents and distract teams as the only option let player pick what route through the collector base they take?) tell me what you thhink. (sorry for bad spelling im tired)

Keep in mind that the Shadow Broker was going to sell Shepard's corpse to the Collectors and may be aligned with them somehow, so it entirely possible that the two stories will intersect and Liara rejoins the story after her [angry and disappointed rant] lame, poorly written cameo in ME2.

I agree, the most important thing would've been at least one small single comment from Shepard about his feelings, whatever the player decides they are now. If that at least were there, I'd be able to overlook the bad presentation and lack of explanation for her obscure changes.

I wish we had the option for Shepard to express some feelings toward Liara but I content myself with a nice little backstory in my mind of the two of them secretly keeping in contact.

Yes, I decided I was more angry at how Shepard was written than how Liara was written.

Actually, I can't imagine Liara turning against Shepard or trying to kill him/her even if you cheat on her. I think she'd be totally heartbroken, definitely. But you'll need her help to save the galaxy and I think she'd realize that. I can see her committing suicide or performing a heroic sacrifice so Shepard and the new LI can be happy. I just don't see her fighting against you.

It seems Bioware is foreshadowing something that involves the betrayal of Shepard, I'm assuming Liara either actually betrays her or Shepard thinks she betrayed her. Betrayal was the theme of all of the loyalty quests that I can think of; Shepard comments several times she doesn’t know what she would do if someone important to her betrayed her.

I too would much rather have meaningful dialogue with Liara than a love scene. I was rather dissappointed that my Shep couldn't tell Liara how she feels about her.

That's very true. BioWare nowadays seems to think romance = love scene. Just have a look at the Garrus "romance". All there is to it is talk about "doing it", then "doing it". Maybe it's good that Liara didn't get this treatment in ME 2 (she would never have so many fans if the ME 1 romances were equally bad). If the developers do read this thread and intend to mention the romance in a possible DLC, please do NOT reduce it to a meaningless cutscene, but give Shepard the option to talk about his/her feelings, whatever the player wants them to be. That should've been in the game from the beginning, but a DLC could bring at least the redemption for that oversight.

I for one have little hope that it'll happen in a DLC though. Hopefully in ME 3. If not, then with all the other changes I already don't like in ME 2, I really doubt I'll buy ME 3 immediately at full price. Even though ME 1 is still my favourite 3D game ever.

We don't even know if the possible "Liara DLC" even has Liara all that much in it.

Perhaps she just sends us on some task? Certainly I don't think she'll be added in as even a temporary squaddie.

Worst case scenario is a bit of "neutralized" dialogue (ie. same for LI and non-LI Shepards) and then carting us off to do her dirty work on some dingy planet. At the end, we get another lukewarm kiss (the non-LI Sheps miss out on that) and a "see you in ME3".
