The only one that gives me pause is Samara - but she's reserved for my renegade anyway. My main shep won't cheat on Liara.

Yeah, that was my point.

If the dev explanation was that Shepard doesn't want to risk the life of his/her LI on the mission, why does s/he keep asking them to join? First from the Illusive Man, then from the LIs themselves? Twice, in Liara's case.

I think they abandoned that excuse very quickly and have just reverted to the "We are telling the story here" and "They are being spared the possibility of dying before ME3" ones.

I quite like Miranda. Thought her seeing and meeting her sister was more touching than the much ballyhooed about Hug Interrupt (all the talk about building houses just made me think of Little Bill in Unforgiven...). I can see my single male Sheps invariably gravitating to her in ME2, tho I have one or two in ME1 awaiting import, that I might just test Jack with.

No, i realize its minimal but there's at least some backstory, as opposed to the 3 sentences of dialogue from Liara in ME2.

A good character doesn't need to scream "I am sexy". Nor does she need camera positions that focus on the beautiful behind (though it doesn't hurt). These things are usually clear signs of the developers seeking an easy way to catch the audience's attention and deflect it from shortcomings. Just like in movies, where also often looks substitute depth. Miranda wasn't totally superficial fortunately, but like all other ME 2 companions, she lacks the character development and weaving-into the story line that the ME 1 companions had.

I would like to see Liara return as a squadmate in ME3, along with Ash/Kaidan.



Liara has so much that can be written about her, and I think it would be a waste of a great character if she was sidelined again.

It's not after because we know that Feron is lost at the end of Redemption. We just didn't know how. So it will be so strange she cheated on his "true love" and in same time tried to save him. And like BW want a strong connection between games and  comics and books....

I didn't read the comics so i will ask a stupid question : Does Liara
know if Shepard is dead or not? If not, peharps she hopes he is stil
alive but the truth will be more cruel...

Yeah, but that was later and at a realistic stage, the very last part of the romance in ME 1 in fact. Before that, it was NOT about the looks, but the content. While I liked that tastefully done scene, I would've liked the ME 1 characters just as well if there'd just have been a fade to black.

Not that they are terrible, it is just you don't really care what happens to them as much.

One thing that started to irritate me about the ME2 characters is the obvious pattern. Recruit them, talk to them once or a few times, then do an errand. Rinse and repeat for new squaddies. It got so formulaic I expected Joker to make crack about it.

As for ME3 being all about ME2 characters, Bioware didn't give a single one character shields. In fact, they removed the plot armor from Tali and Garrus both. They can't write the game around any of these characters, since for many players a number of them will be missing, and no-one's guaranteed to be alive.

It will be difficult making any of them squaddies for ME3. If they DO end up doing that, I just hope it's Miranda and Jacob or Mordin, rather than a certain turian and quarian I've gotten so very sick of lately.

But Tali fans need not be catered to one bit more than they already have. Which is more than any other ME fan group. What did us Wrex fans get? What will we get in ME3? And these schmucks keep whining about not seeing her face. Or threatening to not buy the game unless she's a squaddie. And these were some of the very people who ridiculed the upset fans of ME1 LIs on the original boards as wanting ME to be a "dating sim".

Sigh. I hope Bioware remembers that the ME1 squad had four other members, all of them deserving of equal treatment. Give each ME1 squaddie two games in that role. Yes, Wrex too goddammit!

Yeah, it seems the ME2 characters were there as bodies for Shepard's suicide mission. A couple had some interesting personalities.
I guess the roles for Garrus and Tali will be somewhat reversed with Ashley/Kaidian and Liara (Liara needs a gigantic role though!) on a level of importance to the storyline of ME3.

That's actually what I did with my Ashley romance. I will see how that turns out. But I will stay with Ash on that playthrough and do a seperate one with Miranda to see how that turns out in ME3.
