Daemon,

Yes it is which is why I've come to the decision that I do like the scene with Liara in ME2. Once I looked at it critically, remembered the comic and saw all the dialog choices it wasn't Liara but Shepard I was ultimately disappointed with.

I uh....almost have a play through with all the romance options....yeeeeaaahhh I haven't gone outside much lately.....

I have to agree with you. It was disappointing that I couldn't make Shepard react to seeing her love again, especially since the whole time I was playing all I thought about was seeing Liara again. But since we weren't given the opportunity I'm putting it down to my Shep being unsure how to interact with her lover as it has been two years. Picking up where things left off after two years would be hard. Liara may have put her life on hold to get Shepard's body back but Shepard has to deal with the fact that she was dead for two years and everything went on without her. For me, my Shepard felt off throughout the entire game. Like some sort of weird Post-Traumatic Stress, it's the only thing I could think of to explain why my totally in love with Liara Shep always flirts with Jacob. It's almost like Bioware was trying to force the new romances on us, because most of them go from friend to romantic interest before you know it and I ended up avoiding Garrus, Jacob and Thane most of the time.

I hadn't thought of post dramatic stress but that makes sense.  I rationalized it to be Shepards unwavering resolve to the mission at hand plus the fact that Shepard didn't think she was going to live at the end of it.  Why reconnect with her love after being dead for two years only to die again on her?  There's also the whole hey thanks for getting my body for my SUICIDE mission aspect that got completly ignored or maybe added to Liara's distance along with her guilt/fear that Shepard would hate her.

I don't like having to think that much into it though.  I think Shepards lack of emotion in many aspects of the game took away from the complexity of the character we started to see in ME1.  I understand that the middle of the story has to move forward but this whole problem could have been fixed with just a few lines of dialog at key scenes.

I wish they wrote for Shepard as well as they do for Liara (and Samara for that matter I'm going back and forth between threads lol).  It really sets the scene off kilter when Shepard isn't up to par with the supporting cast.

My gf has freckles in the exact same places as Liara on her face.  Coincedence?  Mebbe....  (I so just got slapped for that)

I get the whole Liara-with-an-attitude thing after ME1, but still... when I found out the Collectors were the Protheans, the first thing that popped to my head was... "Liara would be thrilled to know about this discovery". But you can't tell her anything :(

I'm happy to know that me and GF are not the only Liara fans whose heart flutters.

The mass effect series is wonderful and I would still love it even if Liara wasn't a character in it but her character just gives the story that extra edge that takes it from a 9 to a 10 out of 10 for me.  I think she's better written than the protagonist and yes I think that of the ME2 Liara as well. :P

I don't know how much I'd enjoy ME without Liara. I don't think I would have gotten quite as attached to the first game without her. Her story arc is more compelling than the rest because she experiences so many life changing events because she meets your character. Ash/Kaidan, Tali, Garrus and Wrex don't have the same story arc. Any thing that affects them is not life altering for them. They don't have to be party to killing their own mother and even estranged that's something that would scar someone emotionally. I compare it to the moment when Gabrielle (from Xena) was compelled to kill her own child by events that happened.

<3<3<3 Omg another fan who draws paralles from Xena WP to Liara.  <3<3<3  My fem shep was modled after Lucy Lawless.  *whistles innocently*  Anyway I agree with you it is very similar to that choice.  Her growth mirrors Gabrielles journey from small village girl to the amazon queen tattooed warrior bard of pure awesomeness that she becomes at the end of the series.  I want to see where Liara's growth goes in ME3 and after ME3 whether its in DLC, a new series of games starring her *nerdgasm*, books or comics.

I can't help but compare Liara to Gabrielle. There are some very similar character traits between the two, especially the moments where they are unintentionally funny (i.e. Liara trying to admit her interest and drugged Gabrielle). I see so many similarities that I can't help but think Bioware is setting her up to be the second "hero". Going through what she does to get Shepard's body back, helping kill her own mother, figuring out that they need to go to Ilos and wanting to take down the Shadow Broker are all pretty big story elements. Everyone else's issues/plots are secondary and unrelated to Shepard. Seriously, for me it's like Shep is Xena and Liara is Gabrielle.

That is the worst part of all this.  An extra line or two of dialogue and the whole issue evaporates.  Just a simple "I still love you" or "I'll be back when my mission is over" with an appropriate response from Liara and everyone would be much happier.  Its such a glaring oversight that I can't help but feel they just didn't care enough about the whole scene to be bothered to notice it.

I was expecting Shepard to at least call Liara and tell her that she is just about to go on a suicide mission.
But no, apparently BioWare couldn't pull that off for some reason.
Not that the picture scene was bad, but they could have easily replaced it with a loving call to Liara.

Shepard's lack of emotion did make it hard to deal with the story at times on my first play through, so on my second I played the exact same imported Shep with the mindset of her being all the over place emotionally and struggling to deal with waking up after what would feel like at most a day for her but was two years for every one else while on a suicide mission. When I played her that way Shepard's weird emotions seemed more realistic for my Shep except for the frakking flirting with Jacob.

Shepard's emotions and the lack of expansion on Liara's story are why I've spent all my free time at work for the past 3 days writing my own version of ME2 from Illium on with a lot more of Liara.

My lovely blueberry muffin makes me giggle but I don't really have one.  All I need is "Liara" and I'm off to Liara wonderland.

I so want that option somewhere in ME3 where you can call her that. Would be so nice to see her reaction, would be a really warm and nice feeling for a scene.

Absofrigginlutely!!! It makes me wonder who the xenite on the Liara development staff is.  Even the roundness of Liara's face is similar to Gabrielle.  Now we just need a scene where Liara becomes head of the amazons er I mean Asari comandos....

OMG, that was hilarious.  There was actually quite a bit there I had never seen before (I suck at being renegade).  Seeing him off Shiala and Wrex though, that is just too much for me, I would never have been able to make my Shep do that, especially not Shiala.
