You know, that scene with Chakwas would've been another perfect opportunity to let Shepard express some feelings for his/her ME 1 LIs. Little effort involved for the developers, but a significant increase in atmosphere for those who care about it.
The fact that Chakwas doesn't mention Liara at all is mindboggling. Did she never notice she had an asari living in the back of her medilab?
Did she never notice Shepard's frequent visits?

Guess she was to busy with the Brandy to notice anything

She should have notice all the kissing and slobbering sounds and occasional shouts of "EMBRACE ETERNITY" *cough*
Sorry I'm not going to turn this into a Tali like thread

That also disappointed me. During the drinking scene with Dr Chakwas, I kept exploring all dialogue options hoping that Liara would be mentioned, but alas. I think I ended up selecting "To friends", because I thought that was closest to paying tribute to Liara.

Liara DLC will give us more than ample time to make Liara happy again. Then she'll be herself again!
I demand a minimum of 10 hug interrupts in said DLC <3

Actually, i would trade some of the hugs against an instant kiss. That would be really sweet. Just imagine on Illium, where she goes on she's afraid you might hate her and what she did to her, there's an interrupt where Shep simply get her to gently touch her face and kiss her deep.
Too late for Me 2 now and probably not the kind of mood they wanted to create for that game, but definetively something i want to see for dlc or ME 3

Well I guess I could live with that too
It's so frustrating that you can't do anything at that point or say anything to show you love her... gaaaahh!!
I feel like big a**hole for how Shepard is behaving

Yeah, i know this feeling. Actually, it's one of the few weak points of ME 2. I'm okay with her personality change, her reasons and her behaviour, i wouldn't argue their is no relationship progression (each human relationship has up's and down's and is never just moving forward) and i know that game is supposed to get you and your old love in an arkward situation, so a simple happy reunion was not to be expected.
But Shepard's reaction is just stupid there and the BIG flaw in that scene while the rest is quite okay. But i guess after reading all this (even if dev's don't post, boards are monitored, and i'm sure some issues that were raised will be reported) and reviewing it with some distance to all of this after the workload is finished they'll recognize it was not handled that good and won't repeat their mistake again

Part of it I'm sure has to do with the difficulty of including all those little details when only a portion of us chose to romance Liara. But honestly I also think it comes down to Bioware's standard relationship formula, which for whatever reason always ends once you get the girl...or Asari, as the case may be.
I'd be really interested to see Bioware take a previously established romance from ME1 or ME2 and have it run through an entire arc in ME3. You start with the girl/guy/asari and things progress from there. It doesn't have to be all easy, either. Perhaps Shepard is tempted, or perhaps the LI is tempted by another squadmate (love triangles are actually interesting, Bioware!). Perhaps there are issues you need to resolve to make things work, and choices you have to make between continuing the relationship or doing something else worthwhile.
In any event, I'd like to see their romances taken to a new level of depth in ME3. By that time many players will have invested over 100 hours of gameplay in their version of shepard. It would be nice to see things progress.

Oh, i never said the whole Liara issue is badly handled in ME 2. I know that the game has to appeal to all users, those who played ME 1, those who play only ME 2, Ashley lovers, Liara lovers, Kaidan lovers, singles, it's not easy. And i'm sure they wanted the game to focus on the new story rather than keeping the player occupied with ME 1. That would not take the story any further, apart from that new players would be completely lost.
So, as i said, i can see her developing into the new Liara (though i would argue this is artificial, there's too much of Liara hidden beneath that anger to differentiate between old and new), her new role and her reasons (they could have developed them some more, but i guess that didn't wanted to spoil the comics).
I can even live with the fact that the romance was very flat throughout ME 2 (that is, after i recovered a bit from my first run where is was kinda disppointed in the first placeB)). In the end, it's still there, and i have enough faith in BioWare that they won't fail us completely in dlc or ME 3. There will be a meaninfful conclusion to the romance i'm sure. Maybe not everyone will get exactly what he or she wanted, but that is impossible to achieve for a game with such a big audience and such a beloved character.
So, trying to cut myself short after writing so much, what is bad in that situation is Shepard's reaction. She/he should be able to do/experience three things:
1. Ask her about the status of the relationship or if she still feels for her/him. If they want to keep this secret for whatever reasons, don't let her answer this (she could point out she fears being recorded or whatever), but it's more than weird you cannot ask
2. after she broke down and confess, there need to be more than a neutral answer. Shep should be able to tell Liara she/he is happy she brought her/him back and isn't mad at all. For someone previously engaged with her, the possible responses are not really fitting.
3. She could possibly send you a mail, like Ash/Kaidan do. Don't need to be more content, just some acknowledgement from her side she loves you too.
Some or all of these things could be open only to those people who romanced her in ME 1 so not to confuse players who didn't, but on the other hand could have been done without huge costs or workload. Actually, she necessary voice acting would probably in sum be less than a minute more, and writing a short additional mail should not have been a huge undertaking for the writing team.
All three would have greatly contributed to the atmosphere of the situation without gambling the general theme who the old romances were handled/laid to rest til ME 3at all. That's my only real complaint for the Liara romance in ME 2 where i think it could have been done better to imporve the game without giving up the general atmosphere/insecurity BioWare obviously wanted to create between Shep and his old LI

Thanks for that. But I was more asking where people get the pretty graphical bars they put in there. I'd make my own, but I'm too lazy.
