I've been playing Dragon Age for about 10 hours, and just now I've uninstalled the Character Creator, as obviously I don't need it anymore.

But now ALL my screenshots in DA have been wiped??? How do I get them back?

I even checked in the save folders, they're all gone. How on Earth did uninstalling the Character Creator wipe my damn screenshots? Now I have absolutely no records of all the stuff I've done so far in the game. Isn't that what the screenshot feature was for? I feel like I have to start over thanks to this little abomination of a pre-release 'bonus'.

Unfortunately the CC Uninstaller is broken and has reportedly deleted some players entire Program Files folders. The damage is irreversible.

Are you serious? Geez, Bioware... if the software is so dangerous why haven't they issued an email to members warning them? That's awful!

Because thats bad PR.

A Bioware Rep did make mention of this on a forum topic and said it's best to leave the application installed. Unfortately the entire playerbase is nod made up of telepaths, so most people don't have a clue. Sorry.

Bad PR is innocent users having their data wiped and either coming here to vent or quietly seething at their computers. This isn't just about the game not working, if Program Files is getting wiped that's potentially devastating.

Yeah. I agree. Do a Forum search if you want to see how screwed some people got.

Companies need to stop thinking of players as customers on spreadsheets and start thinking of them as actual people who might be offended by actions that make the company seem uncaring for them. It is a surefire plan for eventual success...even if you dont get rich overnight, you will develop such a fanbase of loyal cutomers that stability will never be an issue.

To be fair, Bioware IS one of the better companies out there. (I'll just choose to forget my woes with Mass Effect)

hmm, i believe i much rather would have had received an email alerting me to not uninstall the character creator since it would delete all my screens than to have had it actually happen to me. i'm extremely pissed off atm...

fix: send an email to everyone who registered the game on pc, bioware. i (and others) would rather have a precaution than not.

Well. That explains that.

Why oh why did I stupidly leave the PSDs for a DAO character painting in that folder? That's hours of work I won't be getting back. Scanning with Recuva to see if I can get those back, but... for crying out loud, uninstalling something in program files should not be touching the My Documents DAO folder.

Edit: Phew! Got everything back with a quick scan in Recuva. Most of the screenshots are corrupt, but the paintings are fine.

I was screwed, in the order, by the toolset, the uninstall, the online profile gallery (tried to recover some ss from there just to find out there is only thumbs).

Made the uninstall delete the user screenshots folder was a poor choice, really.

This must be bumped.

Blast! I lost all my screenshots as well after reinstalling today, and all my achievements are gone too because I'd not previously been online in the game. It doesn't bother me that much, but I'm the obsessive type so I'm finding it a little hard to continue playing with an messed up character profile.

*points at ATi issues being ignored.*

Back-up your Bioware file with a USB Flash Drive. It's the kinda thing ya don't wanna lose.

Hope I helped. I also offer condolences for the victims.

(Ponders if it would also be a good idea to uninstall the CC 1st before installing the main game...)

Well...not if others are saying it can delete your entire Program Files folder...

There is a wonderful little program called active@undelete that is very easy to use and very good at recovering deleted files on the computer. I have a degree in Computer Forensics and this is the tool I use most to recover from "accidents" it costs $39.99 and is worth every penny.

As an example, in the past, I accidentally removed all the partitions from the wrong drive, then formatted the drive, realized my error halfway through, stopped the format, and I was still able to recover every file :))

I can't even take User Screenshots. I see the folder in My Documents and the Achievement and Story SS's are there, but no User. Screenshot is mapped to Print Screen on keyboard. I didn't even uninstall the CC. Am I missing something?

I wish you had posted earlier: I didn't bother trying to scan for the deleted files using Recuva because I've not had any luck with the program in the past, nor have I tried any other recovery program. It is probably too late to recover them now.
