Achievements Not Working

So I'm about 8 hours or so into the game and have not gotten a single achievement. I've looked at the different achievements, and I know that I have met the necessary requirements for several of them.
First thing I did was call Microsoft (not sure why.. wasn't much help) and they had me cache my hard drive, which didn't help any.
I tried using a different profile on my 360, starting a new game and playing for about an hour, still no achievements.
And last, I even took the game back to Gamestop and got a new copy, to see if it was maybe the disc that was causing the problem. To test it I went and scanned a planet, shot out a probe and I'm not getting the achievement still.
I tried talking to EA, via their online chat system and they directed me here. I think this is a pretty unique problem, because I have not found anyone else with the same kind of issue so far. Anyone know what might be going on?
Thanks

i have the same problem, i got what i needed for the brawler achievement and i didnt get it, its not highlighted, even though i got 20/20.
Ok so it looks like it may not be just me, haha.
Are you able to get other achievements? Or is it just that one you are having trouble with?
I seem to be having the issue with all achievements.. :/

Same situation for me as well, though i havent tried to remedy it by restarting or clearing the cache etc. Doesnt sound too promising from what youve mentioned either - i only just noticed and im over 40 hours deep! What ive found thats happening on my console is that the game does not appear in my achievement list through the xbox dashboard - like ive never played it! And i can get achievements to show 'in game' through the mission computer as i play and unlock them but they only last until i turn off the console - then the ones i have earned in that session all dissapear again. This pisses me off completely, i cant help but think it will have a negative impact on the third title - and subsequent playthroughs but will have to get there first i guess!. Another thing to note is that every time i start up to play the ea account manager asks me to accept - dont know if thats normal either. I wouldve thought that would be a one time thing. Well i hope someone takes note and helps us out as this is an extremely crappy thing to have happen!
Everything you have described here is happening to me! I too cannot even see Mass Effect 2 in my list of games, and the in game "achievements" under the extras menu doesn't show any after I have rebooted my 360.
I also get the EA message when I first load up the game, but I'm not sure if that is normal either.
So that's at least 2 of us with the same problem, hopefully bioware can help!

you could try recovering your GamerTag, shutdown/restart, then login to XBL, start up ME2, then play. This happened with "some" of the DA:O achievements and apparently this fixed it.
You = awesome! For anyone else having a similar issue try this. I deleted my profile and recovered my gamertag and now I am getting achievements. Thanks a lot!

Also I was able to get the renegade achievement shortly before beating the game.

I tried deleting my Profile and recovering my gamertag. Now the game is showing up in my list of games but I still did not get any of the achievements I've missed. I haven't played more than a couple of minutes since doing this, so perhaps all subsequent achievements will work now. But is there any way for me to get the achievements I've already missed?
To "ajestrella" in a post above: Did you get the achievements you missed, or did they only start working from that point on?
It certainly seems like this is a rare situation, but it is really frustrating to me. I wonder if one of these unique situations has caused the problem:
1) I imported a character from ME1 that I had recently completed (just a day before starting ME2).
2) I was playing the Xbox download On Demand version of Mass Effect 1 (the version you buy from Marketplace and don't need a disc).
3) I put in the Cerberus Network code before ever starting the game.
I'm just wondering if one of these things caused the glitch? As it stands, I almost don't want to play anymore for fear that the saved game itself might be corrupt or that this might carry over to ME3. I don't want to start over, however, because I am about 6 hours into the game already.
Anyone else have this problem? Solutions?
P.S. - I just noticed the achievements are not showing up from within the game either. :-( I guess I'll keep playing a little while and see if I start getting subsequent achievements. This is really a major bummer.
P.S.S - I also noticed that the "Resume" option was not appearing each time I loaded up the game until I deleted my profile and recovered my gamertag. Now the "Resume" option is there! So I think something was definitely screwed up here.... only, I don't know if it is safe to continue or if I have to start over.

solution and all your internet searching didn’t work for you, here’s what I
recently did and it’s worked twice for me (once in October 2011 and again Jan
2012).
First I should mention that I don't have internet access for my Xbox, so recovering my gamer tag wasn't an option.
Second, what was happening to me (like so many others) is
that I’d be playing just fine but once I did anything new that saved something
to the hard-drive, (like if I’d get a new achievement or even make setting
changes and saved them) my gamer score would become 0, none of my changes would
save and my avatar and wallpaper would disappear when I returned to the
dashboard. The only way to clear it was to sign out and sign back in or turn
off the console and restart it. Everything saved would be lost but it’d go back
to what I had before playing.
From what I understand, some consoles don’t clear the cache,
even when you manually try to clear them under System, memory from the
dashboard. So here’s what I did:
THE FIX: I found the easiest way to update the system
cache was to make changes to your Avatar! I know this sounds crazy, but it
honestly works! When your console sees your profile, it saves a cached version
so it doesn’t have to keep reloading it. By making a change (it should be a big
change, so remove all your extras accessories or add lots of extras, whatever it takes to
change your profile file-size. If you have earned any game awards, use those!)
I added the Portal 2 Awards to my avatar and because they made my profile grow
by about 100Mg & that was enough!
You can also do it with changes to the Wallpaper but it has
to be an image large enough (or small enough) so the console see’s that a
change has been made and so the cache has to be updated as a result.
I know this sounds kinda crazy, but if you’re desperate like
I know I was, you should try it. It only takes 2 minutes. For many days I
didn’t know what to do until I was annoyed and just made changes to my avatar
and suddenly I noticed the free disk space on my hard-drive went from 6GB to
5.9 GB and that was enough. I started playing again, and it worked!
I don’t know what causes this issue in the first place but
I’m happy that for those of us who can’t recover a gamer-tag at least can try
this to fix it.
So give it a try. If it doesn’t work, I’m sorry but at least
it’s a quick easy thing to try, and even recovering gamer tags or using the
flag removers take longer.
Good luck.
