The US version was only on one disc; it's possible that the second disc is only if you're installing additional languages, in which case if you only installed the English version it might not ask for it.

I have the CE and got the exact same thing, maybe we switch discs halfway through or for certain areas like BG:II or the old FF titles.
Or maybe a new marketing technique, novelty frisbee.

depends where you bought it ... most European countries probably get 2 dvds as the 2nd DVD contains all the various localization files (not just for 1 language but all that bioware did) with the first disc being the standard English version. UK should only get 1 DvD
so how it works ... I can't say as mine is still somewhere in the mailing process :/

Its a disc that contains the language packs for languages other than English, I believe. As a lot of the dialogue is re-recorded and re-written -- and there's a lot of dialogue -- it requires a second disc.

My standard PC version only had one disc. It doesn't indicate what disc # it is, since it is all on one. Sounds like a manufacturing issue, perhaps? That is weird.

Really? Did you by the CE version? In the low-grade retail PC, I had only on DVD. Sure glad the 2nd isn't needed!

I think the second DVD mainly contain speech-files for the non English versions of the game.
