Is it not more sexist to step back and go "It's a woman, don't hit" than to reflexively hit? Sexism implies a predetermined belief based on sex. So women shouldn't be hit, for whatever reason is still a sexist thought, since it's predetermined. if it was a man it would not be viewed as a problem to give him a hit.

Actually, that's the speech he gives for Paragon if you save the council (or it sounds that way).coinop25 wrote...
I found it very uncomfortable to punch the female reporter playing as a male Shepard in ME1. I had no qualms about it when playing a Renegade female Shepard. Not sure what that says about me. Didn't see the option to hit her this time around, maybe because I was playing Paragon. I will say I was disappointed that the Paragon dialog option at the end was so weak, though (in which Shepard basically says that he let the council die because humanity is important). It actually seemed like they should be reversed. I ended up reloading just to speak the Renegade dialog option to shut her down, which I found much more satisfying (in which Shepard says that everyone who died that day was a damned hero, and stupid reporter woman should not disrespect their memory).
Long list of hero, and lists of the name of the ships in a very long F-You. to the reporter.

I love this quote. Having heard this line is one of the best things to come of my daughter's addiction to Batman cartoons.

You know assuming that just because she's a woman that she can't take a punch in the mouth is extremely sexist and while you think you are Captain-Save-A-Hoe, mister OP, you are actually perpetuating sexism and the oppression of woman by making this post and crying about a woman being punched in the mouth.
It's 2010. The sexes are equal now. Woman deserve a punch in the mouth when they ****** on people just like men do. Because men and woman are equal.
Sure, Go out and punch a woman in the face. Let's see where you end, in 2010.
Goodness, this comment is quite disgusting.
Gallantry doesn't really equals to sexism.
Gallantry is the definition of sexism. You assume a woman is weak and needs your protection. You think you are being gallant and noble but all you are really sayign is "Don't hit girls cause they are weak and pathetic." You latch on to this idea that women around you need your protection in order to empower yourself but what you aren't aware of is you are directly degrading the position of those female influences in doing so.
I strong, woman weak, me protect, me powerful. Yer just programmed to be a sexist and can't see past the hardwired circuit in your brain that tells you these things and you probably aren't aware of the thought process or choose not to acknowledge it because it causes you mental stress to rewire an old circuit.
Either way I understand how difficult this must be for you to come to terms with.

On topic, I thought that punching her was just stupid. Far more classy to give a dignified, appropriately angry answer, the Paragon way.

MASSIVE F*CKING PLUS ONE.
Whilst I am still caught up to a degree in the social stigma of hitting a women (I have never, intentionally, struck a woman in an act of aggression - accidentally elbowed a female work colleague whilst working on a bar at a nightclub a couple times though - damned confined spaces), I still believe that sex does not give you a get out of jail free card when it comes to violence.
My theory is, (not specifically relating to this case), if she's willing to throw a punch, she's damn well willing to cop a punch.
You and I are kindred spirits! I would never intentionally hit a woman, however if anybody wants to fight "like a man", they better expect to be hit "like a man"!

An even bigger and more obvious issue in this particular case, of course, is that it's not just (potentially) male-on-female violence, but a physically powerful person assaulting an unarmed, untrained, unprotected person. Nobody here bats an eye when you actually kill an armed and armored female merc (of which there are several in this game). Consider the context here.

I think she needs to come back in ME3 and she should knock Shepard's lights out instead, just to shake things up.
I think she needs to come back in ME3 and iron my god damn shirt.
Seriously though, she's a horrific c-word of a reporter, it's the future, and gender roles / bias should be almost completely blurred by this point. Shepard punched out a reporter, not a woman.
