Not really. Punching the camera is still a violent action that falls perfectly into the renegade "ethos". Punching a woman that's just talking in a civilian environment isn't "renegade" it's "chaotic

Paragon Shepard does lots of violent actions too. Also I was actually disappointed he punched her. I expected a backhand. You know, cuz it hurts less and that is the nicer thing to do.

If you cant handle that kind of violence in the game, then obviously you are not ready to play this game.  In this game you kill hundreds of people.

I dont understand why you keep attacking me like that.  And yes I am in a position to dictate who can.  All I have to do is show them the ESRB rating on the videogame box. 

We are all responsible adults Abriael. 

Why you keep making such a big deal about this minor event in the game, where you mercilessly gun down multiple entities, is beyond reason.

Renegades in ME 1 were often violent, anti-social douchebags. ME 2 avoids this in many spots, but it springs up in others.

I played 100% paragon in ME 1, yet used many of the renegade interrupts in ME 2 because they were logical or an acceptable use of violence. I hope that someday BioWare creates a morality system where I feel both sides have ethical merit instead of the current system of 'good and compassionate' vs. 'callous and badass,' and ME 2 is a move in the right direction.

I’d like to agree with Abraiel: decisions like ‘punch the reporter’ don’t strike me as heroic or badass, but just random bullying. The reporter is a civilian, possesses no threat to anyone, and Shepard agreed to the interview knowing how that reporter would act. It’s not like the very cool renegade interrupt in the Miranda loyalty mission where you spot a group of mercs about to attack you, shoot their leader, and then blow up a gas tank behind a cluster of them.

If Abraiel hadn’t made the discussion about gender, and suggested that punching a male reporter was fine but a female was beyond the pale, I’d probably be ‘on his side.’

I think having a dark side per say is needed in games like this, it gives them a different path and a funny one at times. Mass Effect would be lacking without the renegade play through; majorly lacking.

She's not human, nor female. She's the press. And it's clear with her interaction in both games that she tries her hardest to make you look like a fool, regardless of your choices. So yes, punch very well deserved.





Also, it is extremely disconcerting that female on male violence is acceptable, and often comedy, yet the reverse it a heinous and despicable crime.

And I'm suuuure you showing me (given the 32 years weighing on my shoulders) an ESRB rating label (which has absolutely no value to me, given that I'm not in the US, but oh well), is going to prevent me from playing the game? How, pray tell? 
Mind you, i AM playing the game, and despite a few flaws, enjoying it. So, are you going to come here and turn off my 360?

Because I happen to have an opinion, and I happen to have the right to express it in a discussion forum (that's what they are for). You disagree, and that's plenty fine, but there's absolutely no reason for the hostility you (and other) displayed.
Personally, I find no qualm in "gunning down multiple entities" when they try to gun down me. I happen to find punching an unarmed woman an extremely distasteful act, that goes even a bit beyond the idea of "renegade". Is that such a big problem to you?

Paragon Shep fires a warning shot at someone who has a man on his knees with a gun to their skull. That's very different from punching a reporter.

No worries, given that the series has turned shooter, I donned the phoenix armor well before setting foot on this forum. The fanbase of that particular genre tends to be a tad volatile.
