Yeah I can't get past the Mission for getting Grunt. I'm stuck at Jedore firing rockets that giant mech & a pretty much constant flow of Krogan clones all at once. I have no idea how i am even supposed to beat this.

Why the hell would I even comment on this if I wasn't playing insanity? Don't be mad because you all suck at this game and have to whine at anything that poses a challenge on insanity.

You can't be serious. It does this even on normal.

But everone sucks at Insanity, that's why we get hit through cover. Your logic is flawless.

I'm only referring to the floating platforms section in the derelict Collector ship. Thanks for the comment though.

Back up to the staircase, the mech gets stuck behind some boxes (hopefully), and just kill the krogan until they stop coming. Pop off shots at the mech through the crack in the boxes. Then just kill Jedore.

The Praetorian in Horizon was laughably easy. Just had to keep circling around one of the crate-loaded trucks firing at whichever half of it's body was visible at the time.

Feranel wrote...

It does, -if- the scion chooses to shoot, the position of cover we are referring to is at a difference of elevation extreme enough that when the Scion's platform stands still long enough for him to attack, he can not see you, so he does not fire, the only times when the Scion can see you is when his platform is moving, and he will not shoot then.
At all times the top of his hump is visible for you to shoot at.

That's fine for some Scions I suppose (will have to test). I was talking about the dual Scion fight in Horizon though.

Pretty much all essentially flat ground there. It fires right through the crates when you're behind them.

Like I said before, they fire at what they can see, so pop out of cover, and fire until they do, and drop back behind.  Their attack doesn't track you, it goes where you were standing, turning and running sideways works too, sidestepping is a little harder, but works too.

I wonder if theres an impact in ME3 of wether you kill the Tresher Maw or not. For i sure as hell won't bring that thing down on Insanity in time

@Feranel:

The Horizon ones fired at me behind cover all day long. I never popped out.

Basically this. The Mech doesn't climb over cover and can't shoot through cover, Jedore doesn't move from her side of the area, and the Krogan usually only come one at a time.

It's not really that hard as long as you focus on the Krogan first, since they're the only ones who actually move into melee range.

The husks are suckers for Heavy Singularity. You can get them stuck in a singularity choke while you shoot them and blast them with techs and biotics. Use a sniper rifle on the Scions.

Use the cain, if you have ammo for it. If not, use your next best heavy weapon. Then send incinerate at it repeatedly. Use sniper if possible. If not, use whatever you can. Just make sure you can incinerate it somehow. And stay behind the pillars.

The same tactics used in ME1 work on it. Stand still until it fires its spit, then sidestep. The spit doesn't have much AOE... less than the Scion's Shockwave attacks anyway.

Do you get the sniper slow down with soldiers or is it just infiltrators? Anyway, you should just snipe the other Collector's before taking on Harbinger.

Tell your squadmates to take cover either at the console where you start, (you should be in cover here at all times. The Scion's can't touch you unless your trying to take a shot or hit by Harbinger's biotics. Which can be dodged by moving along cover so that it misses) or at the cover in front of the console. They'll be open to at least 1 Scion, but it allows to them to handle the Collectors more easily.

Unless you rely on squad support, (I just let them be a distraction. I usually brought Tali and Mordin anyway, so they weren't much use.) you should be able to handle it.......eventually.

Not to brag, but to prove it can be done, I beat ME2 on insanity first time as an infiltrator. ^^ (And bagged myself 965 G's in the process)

Yes, I'm aware that if this has already been sorted, it shows that I was too lazy to read the whole topic.

Sue me.

I don't even want to think about taking on a Praetorian on Insanity. Talk about a ridiculously overpowered enemy.

Actually not as difficult as you'd think. The tactic I used is to find some extra high cover and move slowly around it, always keeping out of his line of sight and far enough away not to be caught in the shockwave of his barrier smash move. I then just cast warp around the cover while my companions have free reign to attack with impunity.

These platforms were bloody difficult, however. What I did was kill the two drones off as quickly as possible. Heavy/Unstable warp will take care of a drone's barrier, and does pretty good for health, too. If I was quick enough, they would both be dead before Harbinger took over the Guardian. Miranda and I then spammed warp on him while Garrus used concussive shot. That took down his barrier in no time, leaving more spamming of warp for his armour. Then -- if you are quick enough -- you can kill the next three Collectors on the second platform before Harbinger even shows up. I was able to do that on the majority of my reloads. From there, kill the two Scions simultaneously, or close to it. The next platform won't come until one of them is dead, so what I did is focused on the far one on the unmoving platform while Garrus and Miranda took down the one on the moving platform. Just watch, if one is dying too quickly, switch things to take the other one down at roughly the same time. If your teammates die while you fight the Scions, let them lie. You should be able to take care the Scions on your own if you're careful, and you'll need them to take care of the last group of collectors quickly. After they are gone, move to the first additional platform. This is in a much better position to take on the next three collectors from. I managed to do it on the first try that I actually got this far and moved to that platform for the last three.

I was very frustrated the first 2 hours of gameplay, the mission for saving Mordin made me reload quiet a few times.
Shorlty after I somehow automatically adapted to the game mechanics, overload for shields, burn for armor warp for barriers.  I started really raping after mastering charge and shotgun combo, Harbringers become piece of cake and you don't even have to take cover.

Be patient, try different skills, you should be able to adapt after an hour or so.

P.S. some mentioned pretorian, well I picked Barrier for enemies I could not always charge and never really had trouble. Good luck.

My nephew is some sort of video game god.. always plays the hardest level

He is playing ME2 on my PC, doing an insanity run. He ran into the 3 large mechs destroying the 20 crates on an uncharted planet anomoly. Pretty much said he has never had a more aggrivating tough battle ever.... i wont be playing insanity any time soon

Haha, yeah. 3 enemies surpassing the endboss on regular difficulty with almost no cover to speak of. That'll be a good one. Luckily it's not essential

i played it all the way through on insanity my first try, if anything i found it a little too easy. The last boss fight for example i just double nuked and compelted ina bout 60 seconds first time. there was the odd point which took 2 or 3 reloads but nothing that kept me for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

God, I couldn't do that until I was about level 20 something, and even then only 6 crates survived.....<_<

The few times I've played Insanity, I've had to game the tactics that enemies used. Like on Freedom's Progress when you fight the YMIR, I just hid in one of the houses. In the final Blue Suns chain mission where you fight the two YMIR's, I hid on the stairs and shot the mechs through some cracks in the boxes. Did a similar thing with Garrus' mission. There seems to be a very specific way to get around the difficult encounters.

You guys are doing that mission wrong. All you need is the Cain, and enough ammo for one shot.

That's how I did it.

Wouldn't that destroy all the fragile crates?

I must be playing a completely different game. As such, you probably shouldn't follow my advice, but I'm doing it as a Soldier, primarily with the Vindicator, Tungsten Rounds, and only switching to Heavy Disruptor if I'm fighting nothing but mechs or geth, which is fairly rare. If my squadmates can't use an assault rifle, they stay on the Normandy. Usually it's me, Zaeed, and Grunt. Staying in cover and shooting heads is really all I've needed to do. I don't mess with biotics or tech. Derelict Collector ship wasn't that bad, but that could be because I picked up the Widow rather than the Revenant.

No the fragile crates are not the mission critical crates.  I was able to take out two of the mechs with one Cain shot and then took my time on the third.  End result , 3 junked Ymirs, 20 intact crates.

You can also kill one of the mechs without starting the event.  Just edge forward as far as you can without setting off the "20 crates remaining" notice, shoot him in the arm, and let him come to you.  Leaves only two to deal with.

ya that is the hardest part IMO ( still haven't done the IFF or the final mission.) but that whole collector ship part is pretty hard.
