I thought Insanity pretty well balanced for the most part. If anything there were some parts that were boringly easy, but overall it was pretty good. The only time when the game frustrated me was when the squad members wouldn't go to cover exactly where I pointed them to, and ended up in the line of fire.

I'm not sure what people are having trouble with. If you sit back far enough from the enemy in cover, they won't be able to kill you unless you do something stupid. So you just take em out one by one.

Cain is overpowered though. Allows you to essentially skip some of the most fun and challenging parts of the game.

He is playing ME2 on my PC, doing an insanity run. He ran into the 3 large mechs destroying the 20 crates on an uncharted planet anomoly. Pretty much said he has never had a more aggrivating tough battle ever.... i wont be playing insanity any time soon

God, I couldn't do that until I was about level 20 something, and even then only 6 crates survived.....<_<

I had 8 remain... on Veteran.. cant imagine it on Insanity

On a slightly unrelated matter...Is it normal to have all Renegade/Paragon Points of the earlier playthrough removed on an NG+ run? I kinda liked how i got bonus points for importing an ME1 save. Didn't got any for the NG+, though. Just a crapload of money and minerals.

It kinds of hinders my playstyle to not be able to choose Renegade or Paragon dialogue options whenever i like

The only thing that's really "getting me" about Insanity is that I've been too attuned to quick-saving every single second. In Doom I play on the hardest setting and I have middle mouse bound to quick-save. In ME2 I just have to be a bit more careful, and I keep forgetting that.

But yes, I will say it's quite refreshing to be presented such a challenge as Insanity for ME2 : ) I was worried it'd be as easy - or close to it - as the first. I was completely wrong, and I'm very glad for it.

I ran into just that problem myself.  I really think Paragon/Renegade conversation checks are tied to difficulty level, or possibly character level, and so I've screwed myself into a corner by playing with whatever response feels natural.  I'm only Jack's loyalty mission away from having to do IFF, and even with a Paragon bar well into the last section, I can't talk her and Miranda down afterwards.  I apparently need 100% Paragon to pull it off, and definitely need 100% to talk her back into loyalty afterwards, and I have nowhere to get the points.

Nice tip about the crates. Sometimes there really is no kill like overkill.

I'm getting killed a lot on Insanity, and it gets me frustrated because half of the time it's not my fault. Yes, I saw here that I was stupid to poke my head out. Yes, I should've noticed that there was a possibility of being flanked there.
But mostly it's just either bad luck (as in getting a very lucky missile in the face, then having no time to put the tech armour back up - or the enemy NOT getting knocked out by my exploding tech armour), or my party's fault. Once I was gored by a FENRIS mech because the squad was... just standing there. And on more than one occasion an enemy just walked by someone who was holding the flank or the read and shot me in the back.

Thus I would say that the toughest part is relying on the squad to actually kill things. Example: it would take me seconds to get rid of heavies. As a Sentinel, I can't really do that, so I have to have Garrus.

What I enjoy about it is that it feels like a challenge, finally. More realistic, I should say. So when my squad on Ilium jokes about Shepard throwing them against impossible odds twice a day, that strikes me as very true.

How do you guys deal with the double scions/husks on Horizon, the first wave of that final battle bit?

Success!!

I took one of the earlier suggestions and switched out Jack with Miranda, and went back through it with Miranda and Grunt, and i got through it finally.

And for everybody asking why im doing it on Insanity if it is so frustrating, well for one, im playing on Xbox and Insanity is the last achievement i need, and two...i really havent had a problem with Insanity up until the Collector Ship. I switched it up, got through the rest of the ship no problem, and even finished some loyalty missions and grabbed the IFF from the dead Reaper.

So thanks to everyone who provided tips, i see im not the only one who had issues with this level on insanity. And if i was too harsh with some replies earlier, i apologize since my level of frustration at that time was pretty high.

I ran into that problem. I didnt realize my paragon was so low and ended up losing Mirandas loyalty so she died in the end crushed by some debris. Pissed me off because I lost one person my first playthrough so here I am beat the game twice and thats still only achievement I dont have.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the Paragon/Renegade points you need to pass that conversation check is tied to difficulty level.

Its been pretty tough for me so far, but I am getting through the playthrough slow and steady so I don't drive myself insane by jumping to my veteran playthrough to blow off some steam.

I wasn't having too many problems with Insanity until it came to recruiting Tali. That last part with the Geth Colossus is just kicking my butt. I beat it once but Kal died and I refused to continue the game if he was going to be dead.

There is a way to get the Colossus to stop firing. I'm not certain, but if you can make it all the way up to the Colossus area and then retreat, the Geth waves will keep coming, but the Colossus stops firing. You can then tell the General to start firing. The Colossus slowly takes damage until it explodes and the mission section is done.

I keep my squad behind the wall where the General is located for most of the time. Maybe moving them forward to the barrels, so they can direct fire at the Geth infront of the Colossus. But when a Geth Destroyer shows up, I pull the team back behind the wall until I take him down.

I played as Soldier with reave 4, concussive 4, disruptor 4 (shared), and with Miranda & Garrus.

So far, almost every fire fight has a safe fall back position, as well as some places to hide my "stupid" crew so they don't get whacked. I'm hoping the collector ship is similar.

Get the Krogans to follow you back inside the door and then head up the stairs and out of fire. Then peak around and slowly waste the krogans.  I believe there are only 4.  I did this while my squad remained dead. Once the krogans were dispatched, I revived the squad, took down the mech and last combatant.

So what are we talking about here? I can live with not being able to prevent the ****fight between Miranda and Jack, but i can't accept not being able to complete every Loyalty missions without going either Hardcore Paragon or Renegade. This is the Shep i'm planning to import to ME3, i can't afford having decisions taken away from me by something like that.
So does anyone know wether a NG+ on a lower difficulty starts out with more Renegade/Paragon points? Or is it even entirely tied to the difficulty? I thought it to be a bonus out of my ME1 import

I'm getting used to the difficulty after some initial frustration, so i guess it's doable, still i'm uncomfortable about this issue here...the final import save is all about decisions after all

I swear by Miranda and Mordin, with squad Warp Ammo. I give them the Tempest Machine Gun and they rip things to shreds. It's awesome.

Now, the scions on Horizon are the toughest things I've faced so far, not looking forward to the collector ship, but for it seems fairly doable

If u import a ME1 char you will get the bonus in paragon points.  When I imported my ME2 char for insanity I didnt realize that I did not. So when Miranda and Jack had their argument I didnt have enough. I did all the quests in the same order so I wasn't expecting it. My first playthrough I finished with full paragon. My insanity playthrough was only 3 1/2 bars full. So now im beating it again with my soldier ME1 import to make sure everything goes right this time for ME3.

Hm...it looks like it's a NG+ thing

I've started a new game on insanity with an imported Char from ME1 and i've got quite a bunch of Renegade&Paragon Points already. Can't say if its as much as it was on normal, but still the bonus is there.
I don't know why they should cut the points for every NG+ though, they oughta know that we play it for the decisions

I'll start another replay on easy mode tommorow to see if theres any change. Otherwise we might have to wait for a patch, or refrain from doing NG+. I'd rather have a smaller lvl bonus than not being able to make the decisions i'd like to

That was one of the tougher fights in the game. I hid in the back of the truck that's in the left corner from the door that you enter, and just plugged away at the husks with my sniper rifle. Switched to AR as they got closer, then sniper rifle for the Scions once I killed all the husks. Use the Collector beam if you run out of ammo.

But for that fight I really can't give a better tip other than "kill them faster than they come at you". :P No trick that I'm aware of. Took me about 4-5 tries on Insanity.

So many mature people in this topic. :innocent:

Anyways TC, well done, that part gave me a lot of trouble as well. My biggest problem was I only had two revives, and your squad goes down extremely easily. Thankfully, that's the last extremely difficult part in the game.

I didnt think insanity was thar bad, sure there were a few tough spots like the two scions plus husks at the end of horizon, and of course the collector ship... I had trouble with it even back on veteran (got through on insanity with a combination of collector beam and widow sniper because those collectors have BIG heads to aim at) but overall a good challenge.

i got lucky in that the mech got stuck behind the krogan tanks where it couldnt shoot leaving me free to kill off the 4 krogan, snipe the b**** and then shoot his stupid helpless a** to death

I started a new character, infiltrator, and was having a good time up until the collector base which I beat but it required a lot of luck, a lot of dieing and sneaky infiltrator tricks. I've got two quick questions for those that have beat it on insanity, should I switch ap ammo for warp (solo or party), and which other stages should I be prepared for (i.e. are harder than others)?

I'm on the collector ship too and I can't seem to get past it. Insanity has not been too much trouble so far but as SOON as I get to the collector ship, I can't seem to win. I've tried over and over different tactics but nothing seems to work.

I think what's so maddening is that I never chose to go there. I figured I would go after I completed a lot of missions and was at a higher level but I couldn't because the galaxy map was cut off from me and the only thing I could do was go straight there. I'm only on level 15. Why in the world the game FORCES you to go to the collector ship without even giving you a say in the matter is beyond me.
