insanity i always used Mordin, incinerate and freeze.... id get rid of enemies shields and freeze em in grps, most the time id hit two at once and work on the unfrozen one, or hit em with neuro shock... just me tho, Mordin was great for crowd control

The one thing I hate about RPG's is that you usually have to "balance" your team in order to complete a mission. Need a healer, tank, crowd control, and the list goes on. It really destracts from the story if you have to bring certian people with you based off your class. You may not like these people but the game forces you to bring them so you can balance out your skills.
I say screw Insanity, screw the silly acheivement points and use a lower difficulty and enjoy ME2 over and over again. This way you can bring the characters you like and not worry about their abilities and if they blend in well.

There are a lot of tactics you are forgetting about here.
First if you have ever recruited Samara's daughter instead of Samara... Morinth??
You get another bonus power that mind controls organics.
Squad mates also allow against collector's Samara, as Reave is a version of Warp. It does double damage to barriers and armor. Unlike Meranda she can be given -25% recharge.
You could consider Samara/Maranda. Since Maranda has a team booste to damage power.
Also, don't underestimate the power of cryo rounds maxed (non-party). They always freeze an enemy with one shot. So any, non-barrier/armor targets are now, out of the picture for a while, and there is no downtime unless your out of bullets.
Lastly, I haven't tested it out much, but just because a power is "red" doesn't mean you can't use it. I know for a fact you can over-ride shockwave on barrier/armored opponents and it does do minor damage to them. I have used it on odd situations where without a sniper rifle an enemy has perfect cover and you don't. It was better than no damage.

i played insanity as adept on my 2nd playthrough using a ME1 import. That was massively painful. However I found Mordin to be extremely helpful. I went to Mordin and Grunt for almost every mission. Had a complete time that was only an hour or so longer than my 1st playthrough.
Its really focus fire, applying the right skill, utilizing cover and mob pathing, etc to get through the whole thing.

That is the hardest part on insanity, once you get past it it levels out, but yeah try to kill the Scion first cause its shockwave attack is utter Hell when you see Harbinger shoot it's little singularity ball use Adrenaline Rush and try to avoid it thats how I beat it anyway so good luck

Easy way to handle Scions is to deploy an Attack Drone... it keeps zapping them up the ass as they go to attack you... then just hammer them with armour killing powers... easy peasy.
What I am having a hard time with is the stupid cover system. Half the time when you want to go into cover I jump over the bloody thing and when I don't want it to stick to walls (while I am running for cover) it sticks me right in the open. Also not having a crouch button is a real pain for any combat program. It got so bad just that I nearly chucked my controller through my plasma TV because I got stuck to a wall when I didn't want to.
I love Mass Effect 2 but think they should have used a dedicated "enter cover" button (ie not auto stick when you are running) and also a crouch button (could be a thumbstick click instead of the map which you can reach from the menu anyway.
The combined (A) plus thumbstick run was also a problem in ME1 as it caused doors to close in your face lol. Looks like it's still a pain in the quad....
