I appreciate having dialogue and interaction, but maybe that's just me. BioWare's focus has always been telling a good story, not so much the combat in my opinion.

Overbloated? no way! it was all good and all added well to what was happening

some of the combat sections did feel shorter than they could have been, but the solution to this would be to make them longer, not to cut dialogue and cutscenes

Taiko Roshi.. if you want more action or more combat go and play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and remember, first of all, that this game has a dire RPG base and it actually tells a story, instead of just aim and shoot.

So I have just finished the game. I will admit that it was a good game but not great. The main problem I have with this game is that there is more cut-scenes and dialogue than there is combat. In fact it feels like the VIDEO GAME is the exact opposite of most games I play, in so far as the dialogue outweights the action 3:1. Usually, for a VIDEO GAME, the action outweights the dialogue 3:1. Take DA:O as a good example of a good ratio for a VIDEO GAME.

When I first heard that the game would have 2 disc for the Xbox I was genuinely excited. Here I was thinking that that would mean oddles and oddles of combat. I mistakenly assumed this because I thought I was buying a VIDEO GAME. However, to my disappointment what I got was little more than a SOAP OPERA in space.

To say that the developers focused on the ROMANCE instead of the COMBAT in this game is a gross understatement. That is all this game, and I use the word GAME very loosely, is. To think of the potential that ME universe has as a VIDEO GAME the mind boggles as to why it is wasted on ROMANCE! Surely those who want this much ROMANCE in a game can find other games more suitable, like SIMS 3 for example.

For me, ROMANCE is killing ME. ME 2 is just plain boring when it comes to playing a VIDEO GAME. I might as well watch a movie because a VIDEO GAME ME 2 is not!  It is instead a SOAP OPERA and BSG is a much better experience than ME will ever be if you want a SOAP OPERA in space.

So, to the devs. Please ignore all the nerd-rage and give us back a VIDEO GAME for ME 3 not a SOAP OPERA. Some of us do have a life and don't need to live vicariously through a VIDEO GAME playing house. I, foe one, would much prefer the developers concentrated on COMBAT instead of pandering to the demands of the noisy minority who, for some strange reason, think its fun to play a game that is little more than a SOAP OPERA!

I dislike the use of the word "Video Game." Video games are console-centric snore fests for people with A.D.D. Gears of war is a "video game." Halo is a "video game." I want a PC Game. It sounds like you just wanted a shooter, well tough.

So the OP wants to take the role playing out of a role playing game that is too light on the role playing as it is. If you don't like role playing games why the **** did you get a bloody role playing game?!?!?

Hit locations were the only improvement. Everything else was worse than ME1.

Wait what? I never saw a romance-heavy game, when looking at ME. Actually, the only choice you make concerning a relationship is wether or not you pursue it. Most of the Dialogue in ME is spent to develop charakters and story and this isn't game breaking, but quite the opposite. It's what makes ME so unique.

Actually sometimes there were situations were I would have liked to talk my charakter out of, instead of fighting. If you dislike charakterdevelopment, don't ever talk to someone and hit the spacebar over conversations.

The romances always felt like highly superficial and trite additions to me, to be honest. Certainly not the "core" of the game.

Since when is "combat" a synonym for "game" (I purposely excluded "video" - for me at least it implies exclusively console games)? There are a slew of gaming titles that have no combat at all. Quests, flight sims, "The Sims" series, driving/racing games. Does the fact that they don't have any combat at all make them bad?

I still have to see exactly how dialogue and conversations handle in ME2 (Installing DLCs currently) but I'm certain that I won't complain there's too much talking and less combat. For me the combat sections of ME were the intense, brief moments to cool-down between the story segments - simply a mechanic to advance the story forward. Not that I didn't enjoy it greatly, but for a character/story driven game as ME (and all other BioWare RPG titles I've played) the combat is not the sole focus. It's what you use to tell a story in an interesting and engrossing manner. You hack away dialogue, cut-scenes, characters etc. and you're left with a hollow experience.

Even pure shooters like BioShock (it had some RPG elements, admittedly, but it's still a shooter) would have been a total mess without a great story and dialogue to back them up.

If you want more shooting, why go for ME2 at all? There are a lot of combat/shooting oriented games out there, single or multiplayer.

I like the cut-scenes. I don't want it to be all combat, one after another. That would be a worthless game. While they did reduce the inventory too much, in ME1 it was just rather crappy - too many items, that were useless. I'm playing Bioware games because they add stuff other games cut out, like your called "bloated cut-scenes" or romance.

All of the "bloated" CUTSCENES and DIALOG are the MAIN REASON I play the game! I hope ME3 has MORE of it.

Honestly i think that dialoges are the very good thing of this game and action its very intense, not only by fight but for everything e well balanced. This game its very good so. Oriental/Asian RPG are overwelmed by dialog like a DVD movie ( almost useless play them ), but not ME2 that its very good world standard reference.

Dialoges are wonderful and so beautiful interaction within all the game.

You know what? I got an idea, lets say i don't like shooting in games, (not that i don't like it this is just a simple example), Then i say that shooting in ME sucks and it's killing the game? Right, so remove it from the game please, it's killing the game in my opinion and i think that shooting and any violence in mass effect should be removed.

This is the opposite i said as you did in your post. (there was a lot of sarcasm if your brain doesn't understand that)

This has to be the first thread I've read here in which someone complains there's too much dialogue. Nice.

There is no such thing as overbloated cutscenes with ME. Only hardcore shooter fans want to rid of story and cinematics like that. OP fails.

If you want more combat go play the 1,000+ titles released every year devoted exclusively to combat.

The dialog is what makes Bioware games unique.

Dammit i hate to be in the majority.....Real RPG's always have a good deal of Dialouge. This seems to be one of the few ways ME 2 is holding onto the RPG part of it's label.

I enjoy the dialogue. In fact, I enjoy the dialogue more than the combat. For me, the combat is really just a fun means to get to the next dialogue sequence. It ME..talking to the characters int the world, and exploring an witnessing your story unfold is the beauty of the game.
