Give more cutscenes, more dialogue, more social interaction with the cost of even less combat and I am even happier than I am now. Bioware is dialogue. That's why Bioware is the best.

Less Combat? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :pinched:

That is what I was thinking. Why not just scrap the combat altogether and just make the game one big cut-scene interspersed with dialogue, because that sounds like what everyone wants who is posting here. They are almost 3/4 of the way to doing that now with ME 2. Maybe rather than making  ME 3 a VIDEO GAME they just turn it into a CGI movie like Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within. Because in all honesty there is not that much difference between that movie and ME 2.

So you would prefer BW to cut out the combat altogether and make ME 3 one long cut-scene interspersed with dialogue? Because that is what ME 2 is.

Quite on the contrary. I paid
for the game and I played it. I am offering some constructive criticism
and feedback on why I felt that while the game was good it was not
great. In doing so I have not only compared it to other BW games, but
also my experience with ME 1. I am just as entitled to voice my
concerns over the direction and the development of this game as anyone
else is.

If reading the constructive criticism of fellow ME
gamers disturbs you then this thread is not for you. I suggest you take
your own advice and move onto another thread which praises BW for
making ME 2 what it is. You will not find that praise here. Only a
rational discussion on what changes for good and bad BW has made with
ME 2, and my personal opinions on these changes.

When the criticism is about an aspect of the game almost every ME2 player likes (and an aspect you shouldn't be surprised about if you played the first game), it sounds more like destructive than constructive criticism to me.

After reading most of the thread, I'd say Palladium's the one who got it all right. This is not quite the game for you, if you dislike dialogue. Personally, I enjoy character interaction as much as shooting and exploring a new location. Dialogue is one of the factors that make ME's world so rich and its characters so lifelike.

It's not like you are forced into romance per se anyway.

*sigh*

For the last time. I DO LIKE DIALOGUE and CUT-SCENES. The question is has BW gone overboard with these features in ME 2 at the expense of combat. How HARD is it to follow the discussion?

BTW, you're really exaggerating the matter with your "ME2 is a movie" rants. With every post you make, you're just making us believe you REALLY belong in the "all-shoot, no brains" world.

Just go play MW2 and leave our ME alone.

Not hard at all, but each post you make just contradicts what you claim to like. ME2 has a pretty decent balance between dialogue and action, and besides, most dialogue you can just AVOID. The first ME was a lot less action oriented. Did you ever play that?

Its not an exaggeration. Have you even played the game? Compare the amount of cut-scenes in ME 2 with ME 1. ME 2 is more a movie than a game.

OK so the question is:

Considering how "many" of you enjoy the extended cut=scenes and dialogue, should BW cut player controlled combat altogether in ME 3 and just make it one long cut-scene interspersed with dialogue, which is basically what they have done with ME 2?

When watching Final Fantasy the spirits within do you control the action? do you control the main characters dialogue and how he interacts with people? do they have side missions? can you equip him and upgrade all of his equipment? have you played Mass Effect 2? there is very little in common with Final Fantasy Spirits within

Mass Effect 2 does not have substantially more cut scenes or dialogue than any other BioWare game.

Dude... this is an RPG. The balance between combat and dialogue was fine. And I am 99% sure no one else agrees with you. Go play Halo.

If memory serves me wasn't Mass Effect billed as a cinematic, futuristic, RPG with shooter elements and one of the best dialog systems ever.  It was never said to be a shooter with RPG elements and a few dialog choices.  So far every person who has responded to your post has disagreed with you.  You are entitled to your opinion, it just happens to not be the opinion of anyone else.  Restating your opinion using different wording will not change the fact that most people enjoy the conversations in Mass Effect.

So I have just finished the game. I will admit that it was a good game but not great. The main problem I have with this game is that there is more cut-scenes and dialogue than there is combat. In fact it feels like the VIDEO GAME is the exact opposite of most games I play, in so far as the dialogue outweights the action 3:1. Usually, for a VIDEO GAME, the action outweights the dialogue 3:1. Take DA:O as a good example of a good ratio for a VIDEO GAME.

When I first heard that the game would have 2 disc for the Xbox I was genuinely excited. Here I was thinking that that would mean oddles and oddles of combat. I mistakenly assumed this because I thought I was buying a VIDEO GAME. However, to my disappointment what I got was little more than a SOAP OPERA in space.

To say that the developers focused on the ROMANCE instead of the COMBAT in this game is a gross understatement. That is all this game, and I use the word GAME very loosely, is. To think of the potential that ME universe has as a VIDEO GAME the mind boggles as to why it is wasted on ROMANCE! Surely those who want this much ROMANCE in a game can find other games more suitable, like SIMS 3 for example.

For me, ROMANCE is killing ME. ME 2 is just plain boring when it comes to playing a VIDEO GAME. I might as well watch a movie because a VIDEO GAME ME 2 is not!  It is instead a SOAP OPERA and BSG is a much better experience than ME will ever be if you want a SOAP OPERA in space.

So, to the devs. Please ignore all the nerd-rage and give us back a VIDEO GAME for ME 3 not a SOAP OPERA. Some of us do have a life and don't need to live vicariously through a VIDEO GAME playing house. I, foe one, would much prefer the developers concentrated on COMBAT instead of pandering to the demands of the noisy minority who, for some strange reason, think its fun to play a game that is little more than a SOAP OPERA!

Welcome back Mr. Complain-A-lot. You ever return your copy of DAO for a full refund, eh eh eh? Seriously man, this game isn't all about combat. It's supposed to be an emotionally charged ball of awesome, which it was! If you want something that focuses highly on combat, go play call of duty, or Matt Hazard. You'll have a blast with both.

BioWare will make the game however they want to, not your specs, and not to mine. It's their title, and they have free roam of whatever path it takes. So how about this, less Q_Q and more PEW PEW!!!

Oh yeah, I've been playing the game and enjoying every part of it. In fact, I'm almost 48 hrs. deep into the game, just because I love to explore, talk, and look at everything I can. That's why I find your comments almost insulting. Comparing the game to a movie? Come on. There's a LOT of gameplay going on, even during the dialogue scenes, but it really seems the only gameplay aspect you care about is shooting. Bioware's RPGs and dialogue-heavy gameplay is a trademark of theirs, a trademark most of ME's players like. That's why everyone's been telling you you're playing the wrong game.

Its part of the package. the influence you have over the scenes, the exploration of the galaxy etc. the combat is a tool to getting you involved in the story. thats the games aim IMO. you shape the characters destiny. Mass Effect works as a stand alone narritive. It COULD be a film, but the interaction you make is what makes it so much more. Its a completly different experience than pressing play on a DVD.

i don't think the guy is playing on a high eneough difficulty, i found myself in combat at least 50% of the time on Hardcore, and on insane i feel combat is even longer(mostly due to every fight lasting at least 15 minutes)

Sounds like somebody tried real hard to get laid and ended up just staring at the picture on his Captain's Desk before the final mission.

:(

Better luck next playthrough bud.

By the way, seriously now... did you ingest anything mind altering before posting such a worthless, misdirected post?  My brain started hurting about halfway through reading this heaping helping of utter nonsense.

so the game was all just one big dating sim? did you play the whole game? also you don't even have to go after the romance subplot and can be played all the way through without it. So how do you find the game is so focused on it? the focus to me is action recruiting people and killing lots of bad guys

Thread titles like this make me sad. Attitudes like this got the majority of the RPG elements removed from ME2, don't take away the story and dialogue as well. *angry face*
