Are the over bloated cut-scenes and dialogue killing ME?

If it pains you so much just skip conversations and cutscenes, OP, or alternatively play another TPS.

Great, a whine topic that ME2 is TOO MUCH of an RPG.
Hadn't seen that before.
Well, guess that's the problem when a game tries to broaden its audience. Brings many unwanted whiners and shooter freaks to spoil the fun for us who liked the original formula just like it was.
You can't blame Bioware for trying tho... gotta bring home the money and all.

When I was playing I never felt that I had to listen to something , I actually wanted to know more of the conversation.

So I have just finished the game. I will admit that it was a good game but not great. The main problem I have with this game is that there is more cut-scenes and dialogue than there is combat. In fact it feels like the VIDEO GAME is the exact opposite of most games I play, in so far as the dialogue outweights the action 3:1. Usually, for a VIDEO GAME, the action outweights the dialogue 3:1. Take DA:O as a good example of a good ratio for a VIDEO GAME.
Recommend you don't go anywhere near Planescape: Torment or any Infinity Engine games.
Impossible to generalise 'video games' in way that you do. Too many different types, really. Call of Duty, mostly action/combat video game. Broken Sword, dialogue/adventure game. Civ, empire-building game. Zool, platform game. Also, people want different things out of games. ME1 had more action but many people deplored the Mako, which was a good portion of your action right there.
When I first heard that the game would have 2 disc for the Xbox I was genuinely excited. Here I was thinking that that would mean oddles and oddles of combat. I mistakenly assumed this because I thought I was buying a VIDEO GAME. However, to my disappointment what I got was little more than a SOAP OPERA in space.
Oodles. Like noodles or poodles. Personally, I didn't find it at all space-opera-ish. In fact, the dialogue could have been improved, including more inter-party banter (which was sadly lacking). Clearly, we simply have different gaming experiences. Compared to previous Bioware games, this one wasn't all that dialogue-centric.
To say that the developers focused on the ROMANCE instead of the COMBAT in this game is a gross understatement. That is all this game, and I use the word GAME very loosely, is. To think of the potential that ME universe has as a VIDEO GAME the mind boggles as to why it is wasted on ROMANCE! Surely those who want this much ROMANCE in a game can find other games more suitable, like SIMS 3 for example.
Mass Effect is an RPG. RPG = Role Playing Game. You can't have role-playing without interaction. I'm enjoying the interactions so far. As far as I understand it, romance is not a requirement of playing a game. It's not forced on you. You don't have to romance anybody. It's an optional extra. It gets a lot of attention because sex in video games is considered risqué and sometimes even taboo. Have to wonder why you're playing an RPG if you want "COMBAT"; give Call of Duty or Gears of War a try instead. Guaranteed no romance.
For me, ROMANCE is killing ME. ME 2 is just plain boring when it comes to playing a VIDEO GAME.
You appear to be in the bitter minority.
I might as well watch a movie because a VIDEO GAME ME 2 is not!
Yeah, give Twilight a try.
/me snickers
It is instead a SOAP OPERA and BSG is a much better experience than ME will ever be if you want a SOAP OPERA in space.
Are you sure you're playing Mass Effect, and that your game discs haven't been replaced with another game called "SOAP OPERA"? ME2 is no more "SOAP OPERA" than DA:O. Why the bias?
So, to the devs. Please ignore all the nerd-rage and give us back a VIDEO GAME for ME 3 not a SOAP OPERA. Some of us do have a life and don't need to live vicariously through a VIDEO GAME playing house. I, foe one, would much prefer the developers concentrated on COMBAT instead of pandering to the demands of the noisy minority who, for some strange reason, think its fun to play a game that is little more than a SOAP OPERA!
Dear devs,
Please ignore the voices that shout, and listen instead to the ones that whisper. I implore you not to turn the Mass Effect Series into yet another FPS game. You've got a wonderful, immersive setting, with unique characters that different people can empathise with. I, for one, would much prefer you to find the happy balance between ME1 and ME2, instead of pandering to the demands of the noisy (lacking in netiquette) minority who, for some strange reason, want to turn your wonderful setting into a video-game version of Starship Troopers.

@Bioware: Please more of that in Mass Effect 3. Who cares about combat if you have a cool story? Planescape: Torment (95% story, 5% fights) still waits to get beaten as #1-all-time-favourite.

Liiiiiike...you? If you want a more combat focused game, then go out and buy and play a more combat focused game. Mass Effect is it's own unique story -- romance heavy or not, it's what makes people who enjoy playing it keep coming back for more. If you're not the type who's fond of how it was made this time around then wait for the next installment or go find a game that directly caters to your interests and/or demands.

Interactivity needs to be more along with more places to go in the hub area Tuchanka feels like a small island. If it's the Citadel their should be more shops , bar/clubs , and mini-games/tasks.

i wonder how old some of you are, or whether you really did play ME1
i also find it laughable that those of you who claim that the cutscenes are neccessary because ME2 is an "RPG", look past the issue that i just completed the game for the first time in 20 hours, finishing it on hardcore, at lv 17. what kind of RPG is that?
you have clearly never played a proper RPG. and most of ME2's cutscenes dont propel the story at all, rather show of the game engine and graphics. stop fooling yourself.
im sure it could have lasted alot longer, if i did every quest, and i may well go back and see whats to offer. but really, your fooling yourself if you think a game in which 90% of your time is spent collecting team members, is complete and has a fulfilling story.
when i went to do the final quest, it was actually an accident. half way through the cutscene i realised what it was however, and decided to persevere, believing that i would find it impossible because i would be too weak for all the awsome hoards of enemies. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. because then i'd know i could reload a save and go back and have a load more content to go through to get stronger and better stuff. instead, i go through it in 20 minutes like a hot knife through butter and feel gutted.
theres no weapons, no armour, not many skills.
all of these things are necessary in any RPG because of the feeling of character development. the feeling at the end of the game where you cant imagine how weak you were at the start. the feeling that your characters have grown and done something epic. thats what an RPG is all about. ME2 has none of that. ME1 managed it though.

As I said before this game doesn't contain an extreme amount of cut-scenes , I personally want more cut-scenes and dialog conversation's that turn into tasks or mission's.
The only thing I can say is your in the minority as far thinking the cut-scenes have no purpose.I'll except the opinion though.

Find these two points a little hard to believe.

For me, and i'm just speaking for myself here, the story of a game is VERY important! Water down the story and dialogue in ME3 and you have another boring, ten hour, third person shooter. It's bad enough that they watered down the RPG elements.
