It probably never struck any Tali's fans mind that Tali's very character isn't meant to be attracted to the same sex. You guys will have to talk to the very creator(s) of Tali for the Mass Effect universe, the person(s) responsible for her in the creation and character development process, maybe THEY have a last word on their own creation, no? If they don't want Tali to be a lesbo then so shall it be. Would that be sad for Female Sheps? Most likely the case yes, but do the Tali's creator(s) actually care? I'd highly doubt it.

At least Liara's case was explainable by the very culture of the Asari species as a whole, they aren't even "females" nor "males", they DO have the physiology of a human female, mostly, but they don't have such things as "females" and "males", they just... are... and they can copulate and link minds with whatever sex of whatever race they want to, so it actually holds up to their own ways of life. But the Quarians... heck no, it's an actual choice due to sex preferences and orientation, if Tali prefers males of race # 'x' then she only like males, too bad for human lesbos.

They could at least have been more sensitive.

By the way, since you're obviously a dedicated femshep like me, what do you think of Shepard's voice work this time around? I loved the job Jennifer Hale did with Shepard in ME 1 but this time she's trying to sound too much like a tough guy and (I'm finding at least) it's coming off a bit silly. What do you think?

Female Shepard works very well and sounds completely appropriate as a Renegade, not so much as a Paragon.

You know, I used to like Tali as a character but I seriously can't stand her now because of these forums. Now all I see is fanboi-angst with chicken feet. It's really quite sad.

I revisited the suit-joining dialogue - still feels rather suggestive. Seemed like FemShep was turning it down though. Shouldn't that be the players choice?
When I talked to Jack once it seemed like she thought FemShep wanted to get to know each other "all the way better"  and told her it's not happening (similar to Mordin).
So if I didn't get anything wrong: With some characters I can 'flirt' until they say their not interested, and when Tali builds up tension FemShep backs away? I'm not sure what I should think about that.

Honestly, while I was a little sad at first that I couldn't get into a romance with Tali on my femshep.. I kinda like it that way. With my femshep, they are close enough to be sisters (aside from the obvious species difference) and that's a really good way for the relationship to be. She's always there for me, and me for her.. But we don't need to have sex. We love each other in a different way; a way that is still just as strong.

And that gives me incentive to start up an alternate story for a male shepard. I never wanted one before, but now I think I'll keep at least one of each gender for ME3.. And I'll surely have my maleshep fall in love with Tali :)

I never liked Tali much. I try not to talk about it a lot on the forums because I know so many people love her. I just don't get her. It's at least partly because she's so internalized the teachings and culture of the Flotilla. In ME1, a lot of her advice and stuff was basically, "The Flotilla says . . . " or "Quarians feel . . . " Damn it, I'm not working with the whole Flotilla, I'm working with you, and I'd appreciate it if you could pull your head out of that rut and produce some individual thoughts on the matter!

I'm also bitter that the Paragon hug interrupt went to her, when Garrus was the one who got half his face blown off. :( He doesn't even get a hug in his love scene.

You're saying you'd rather buy a rusty old Ford Pinto because everyone would love a Mercedes?

Either you're being superficial, or your sense of entitlement is inflated to epic proportions.  I'm not sure which.

The fact that so many people really like various characters in the game means that BioWare did an excellent job of writing in some really good characters and plots.  That IS their goal afterall.

They've come a long way since Baldur's Gate.  Granted Tali's borrowed a bit from Minsk and Boo, but at least she has depth.  Minsk and Boo were designed to be so stupid it was funny, quite literally.  What they lacked, as did many prior BioWare companion NPCs, was any real depth.  As their game writing evolved, so has their characters.  They're quite polished with Mass Effect, and even Dragon Age.

Yes, way to get personal and attack me because I said constantly hearing about her has turned me off of her.

Like when a song keeps playing on the radio - you end up turning the channel because you can't stand to hear it anymore.

But thanks for the lovely insults.

Don't worry OP I felt the same way when it was revealed she was ManShep only. :(

While I agree to an extent that not everyone in the universe can be bi and all, but to me I feel that there should've at least been something for both male/femsheps in terms of same sex stuff; and Kelly doesn't count nor does Morinth because those aren't exactly deep relationships to begin with imo. At least not to the extent where you grow and connect with the other character, do their personal quests and see them through hardships before it blossoms to something else. I suppose I'll never understand why the romances weren't scripted like the DA:O ones in terms of your character having to initiate the romance to begin with- that's the only way I can see the 'bisexual' romances for all characters working. If the player misses the right cue in order to progress a romance then thats it, the flag is turned off for good and the friendly 'I'm not interested but lets be pals' banter can commence from then onwards. That way the player gets the choice of who they wish to go for instead of being shoehorned into one road without a choice. I don't beleive that resources would've been an issue, as the romance dialogue is already gender neutral as is- the only slight changes would be anything that, of course, was gender specific and your shep's line towards the said companion.

I know I sound somewhat contradictive in some sense but yeah, I guess that's my opinion on the matter and all we femshep Tali fans can do is find a way to mod w/o resorting to playing manshep for the privilage.

I highly doubt there'd be a bone in ME3 either unless you simply consider Liara, it feels liek its too late in the story to be bringing in any new romance options when you're facing the climax of the story.

Edit: Forgot to add, I guess like a lot if nto a few of us thought that maybe Bioware would've followed the formula they seemed to have going where the Main support male and female were usually opposite gender only chracters, and whatever followed was a mix (e.g Main sub female would be Miranda in this case and Jacob for male). Sadly this time round that didn't happen.

My FemShep never wanted a relationship with Tali. But I wouldn't care if it was an option.

I still prefer Liara.

Yes.

Is every decent-hearted person bisexual and looking for a relationship right at this very moment? I figured now that Tali's been "assigned" to my ship by the Quarians, her and femshep are heterosexual life partners.

what?!!! i have no idea what you are talking about, when i try to understand it comes off as hideous so i must be wrong. can you explain what your point is?

That demanding that every single character in the universe wants to bone you regardless of character alignment or gender is idiotic

Haha, yeah. That's just not the way it works. Trust me on that.

I've always been for same sex romances in Mass Effect (see club that I own). While not having them in Mass Effect 2 (unless you were a female and either choose to stay with Liara, have a fling with Kelly, or go with Morinth and die) didn't break the game, I think it would have been better to have them. Hopefully we'll get a DLC unlocking that content.

Not everyone is bisexual, and Tali simply isn't one. I prefer playing Shepard as female and I generally go for lesbian romances if there are any, but I don't see this as a "lack".

well, DBHolm. i can totally respect your comments.

However, i don't feel as though Tali would have to be a bisexual in "my gaming experience". she might be lesbian, hetero or just an alien that is different enough from our species to not get hung up on separate-species gender issues, i don't know............but, the point i was making is that we are supposed to decide what our experience is in Mass Effect. It's always been about choices with Mass Effect and Bioware in general.

Yeah, it's our experience but the game wouldn't be dramatic at all if we had control over everything. It just turns it into Sim City where you're an omnipotent god who does what he/she wants. Sure we may have wanted to save Kaidan and Ashley but we couldn't. Adds the drama.

What about Shiala from Feros? If you spared her in ME1 and help her now on Illium, she makes FemShep (dunno about MaleShep, but probably as well) an offer that seems very explicit in terms of ninting at commencing romance after all this is over. But since I use the Blood Dragon Armor i don't have a clue what FemSheps facial reaction is.

Whoops! Forgot about Shiala- I was only basing it off the ones which were actually obtainable Image IPB If I remember rightly femshep's expression was just, I think, a brief smile and a silent nod? Though I took that as a 'thanks but no thanks' gesture. I could be wrong though, I'll have to replay that part to double check on my next play through.

Yeah, my FemShep got shot down twice (Samara and Tali) and I ended up being faithful to Liara. Which I was intending to do anyway, just wanted the Achievement, and because I thought both Tali and Samara were the most interesting of the female teammates. Samara is the pinnacle of the Asari, and Tali is such a sweetheart, how can you not fall in love with her?

I too got to the suit-linking dialogue and got my hopes up, and then BAM! nothing.

Search button helps when there are already millions of threads on this topic. Dude, I can't believe people actually waste time trying to do this. Video game characters, people, video game characters...

No, it's not about you being a dork/nerd/geek, this is a video game forum and that is expected, but to go so far for the option of romancing a video game character...

Sigh...

And yet here you are, actually caring enough to complain about it.  Pot and kettle?

Yeah, limits are good for story telling purposes, which is why we cannot romance everyone. Having same sex romances is not about controlling the game, it's about giving players more room to create their Shepard. it's still a limited choice, we would only be able to choose from what we are given (if we ever get it, I would hope for a human and alien same sex romance per gender), but we would have the choice.
