I've placed the CD in the drive, the installation screen came up, but none of the buttons except (ironically) EXIT does anything. The instalation screen just sits there.

This problem may have been addressed already, but with no search function on this forum I can't tell.

I've tried updating DirectX, that doesn't help.

This is Mass Effect 2 I'm trying to install, my computer meets all the minimum requirements to run the game, I installed it on another computer but I'm not using that one right now.

Try manually running the setup instead of relying on the autorun. After placing the disc in the drive, press Exit on the installer, then open windows explorer, r-click on the DVD drive that contains the ME2 disc and select Open. R-click on setup.exe and select Run, if you're on Windows 7 or Vista select "run as administrator".

Does that make any difference?

Other things to check would be your antivirus, make sure its realtime file-monitoring system is disabled as it might interfere with the installation.

Also check your .NET Framework versions and maybe you could try reinstall Visual C++ 2005 redistributable.

So far still no luck. I'm running Vista, and for whatever reason it won't let me explore the CD, it automatically closes that window whenever I try to open it. Updating .NET Framework didn't do anything.

It seems that I'm having the same problem with Dragon Age.
