me2 had to reset shepard because the combat and inventory systems had completely changed. there was just no way to import a me1 shep properly. now that bioware have found the feel they want from the game, me3 will likely be similar to me2, so there's no need to start over.

for everyone who keeps saying "so and so won't appear in mass effect 3", please look at this:

http://en.wikipedia...._3#Main_trilogy

I'm fairly positive that means that the mass effect 2 characters will return

don't know about the jan release date. You do know that anyone can go in and edit it. I could go in and change that release date to March 2010 if I wanted to.

i never got why this mattered to people. yuo dont WANT to progress your character again? like a dev said some while ago:" the cap could be 60 or 600, and it would be the same", yuor still gonna progress the same pace. the excuse for starting over skillwise is that it is fun to grow your character throughout the game, importing max level is just...boring, and countinuing to a new level cap 30 levels ahead of everyone else is unfair and unnecessary.

I can easily imagine a Level import this time around.

They could just have us go from Level 1-30 *very* quickly this time around if we don't import, that's all. I'd imagine each class would have at least one more ability as well, and the Ability Level can go to at least 5 in ME3. I dunno, it just seems more set up for expansion in ME2 compared to ME1, and the whole DLC and ME3 development plan lends to this theory.

If it's supposed to come out in January next year I desperately want to believe it won't be rushed but it just will... There's no way Bioware can make great, long and re-playable experience in a mere one year.

Where do you get January 2011 from?  The only place I saw that date was Wikipedia, and when I follwed the citation it was to IGN's Mass Effect page, which only had "TBA 2011."  I would seriously doubt it will be out January next year.  Holidays 2011, maybe.  Somewhere between then and Q1 2012 would be my guess.

Its in an interview with Norman, they don't have to rework the graphics engine or the combat like the last time, so they're projecting a 2011 January release currently. Mass Effect 3 will in a development sense act like an extremely large expansion.

I could imagine shepard being captured by the reapers/ pissed up ceberus, alliance or citadel (maybe a spectre) and being imprisoned/ half indoctrinated and start the game trying to get away from there... would be cool to wreck a reaper the first thing you do :)

Another possibility is that a few years after the second game, Citadel space prepares for the upcoming super-epic galactic battle and super upgrade the warfare technology?

TIM wipes your credit score and you have to go back to the Alliance, begging for a job. ;)

Call level 31 "Level 1" and have "level 30" be the equivalent of the ME1 level cap of 60. Raise skill maximums from 4 to 6 and start everyone with 3 in everything, Problem solved.

"Mass Effect 3 will have no updates in graphics, so it will be released as soon as it has been created, expect same planets and characters."

That could be disappointing being stuck with the same planets. Atleast we get the same characters.
