you also forget Samua Aran.. the first Female hero of any video game with Metroid back in like 1980.. Nintendo actually had many "minority" heroes Link is left handed... how man heroes in games do you know that are left handed?Lightice_av wrote...
All the 11 year olds who buy Mass Effect will freak out
By the law and company policy they shouldn't be having the game in the first place. And guys haven't exactly had problems with female heroines in the past (*looks from Tomb Raider to Bayonetta*) - though female Shepard is way more mature example of feminity than video game heroines usually are.
Who'd love to see more of femShep used in the marketing in ME3?

John Shepard is canon, prove me wrong, He is in every commercial and that is the default look.
Why does marketing/ promotional material have to = canon? its not like a book or movie based on shepard, its just advertising...

Not being selfish, just saying that unlike Sheploo all FemSheps are either terrible (someone picked a default model, ugh) or unique. So we won't be seeing "our" FemShep.
Face it, it's wall-to-wall Sheploo.

Na jokes, I think it would be good to see both male and female sheps in advertising because maybe out there are girls who dont even know you can be female in ME, so they might see new advertisement and be 'Oooooooooooh cools, Lady hero;

Or that's because of the MaleShep advertising - and because it's the default option. Not to mention that the Sheploo is much prettier than default FemShep.Vena_86 wrote...
It wont happen. Apparently 80% of ME2 players are male shepard (girls are ghay!111) soldiers. What is more likely is that shepard will have a redneck accent and a cowboy hat.
Personally, I'd love to see more FemShep - BUT default FemShep isn't very iconic, unlike Sheploo. I'm afraid the FemShep opportunity is lost. If they had given default FemShep a HQ premade face sculpt... I'd totally support more femShep advertising. As it is?
Hard to really be in favour of it.
(besides, they're not going to remove femShep, so what?)

It does not however say how many played a female Shepard, most people I know play as both. 80% male-Shep doesn't have to mean only 20 % played as female Shepard. Even I who has 5 femSheps have a male Shepard.

Personally, I think that using default male Shep is disrespectful to Jennifer. She puts in the exact same amount of effort and yet get's no recognition for it.
Hell, in ME1 it wasn't even obvious that could have any character other than default male Shep, as the option was hidden away.
Bioware reckons that they needed a default Shepard on the cover or they would have lost sales. Well I say that's crap. Lack of main characters on covers and in advertising hasn't hurt other games at all. Just look at the Bethesda games to see how much that theory holds water.

The fact that their stats show 80% of gamers play male Shep might open their eyes to the fact they need to market Femshep more.
That makes no sense! Thats 80%.. a big majority. If 80% (mojority) of their customers play male Shepard why would they advertise what the minority likes? If 80% of gamers prefer MaleShep.. why would they advertise the opposite.. why advertise what the majority of gamers dislike?? If 80% of gamers picked MaleShep over FemShep.. why would they go advertise FemShep?? Just sayin'..

It only says that 80% have played as manShep at some point.
It doesn't say wether or not those 80% also played as femShep.

To be honest. I personally think that any game that has the option to tailor your own main characters appearance, should not use any reference to the main character on it's cover or in it's advertising at all. ( Unless it's represented by a figure in shadow or silhouette. )

your entire post is full of your crap opinion and no facts. even dragon age sold it's hero, and generally used the male protagonist - dragon age 2 certainly has had that awesome trailer already with male hawke... and 'disrespectful'?! wtf - hale is doing a job, like and other VA, that is all (and she's bloody awful as shepard, despite have done great work in other games).

no it's says 80% of shepards played as maleshep. not at some point, not that 60% also played as femshep, 8/10 played as maleshep, and given gaming demographics and the target market of mass effect games, that's not surprising at all.
