Apparently
there is a file called "BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini" that gets
changed whenever you start ME. I'm not near my gaming computer right
now, but can someone play around with it - maybe delete or move it - to
see if it makes any difference?

I deleted it... but it created a new one apon logging into Cerberus, and then again did not allow me to play offline.

I posted a solution in a thread I created
http://social.biowar...9931/1#1112112

In
escense, I had a backup of the "BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini" from
when I was still allowed to play the dlc offline, if I replace the new
one with the backed up one, I can play offline again, even with the new
Cerberus Armour DLC.

But having to replace the ini file every
time is not the proper solution. Why doesn't someone from Bioware
clarify the issue, I have looked everywhere, and nowhere does it say
one way or the other.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

Interesting. I was never able to play offline with DLC to begin with though. Are you saying that that wasn't the case for you? When did you stop being able to play offline?

Is everyone else getting the same response from EA?

"Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within 24 hours."

Is NO response considered a response by EA?

That's what they told me three days ago.

If anyone is interested in a workaround for this problem (on the PC) send me a PM.

Why a PM? Does it involve downloaded cracked files from piratebay? :P

Not quite, but it's not entirely legal so...
If there's anything the DAO DLC issues taught me it's that if you want something fixed in an EA game, you're better off finding your own solutions than waiting for EA to get a move on. They move about as fast as the tectonic plates... :pinched:

So uhhh, who do I contact to tell them that I can't load my Mass Effect 2 saves because I'm unable to connect to the internet...Bioware? EA?

I'm on the 360 by the way...and yes, I disabled Cerberus Network auto log in.

Here's what finally worked for me (and I think I saw this in another post, though I can't remember the thread, since there's so many that discuss the no-DLC-while-offline issue):

I connect to the internet (I have 3G wireless). I start Mass Effect 2, do not log into Cerberus, and load a save game (DLC or not, both seem to work). I ALT-TAB or whatever out (fortunately, ME2 allows this), disconnect the internet, and continue playing, loading games, whatever. As long as the internet connection is active when the game starts, it's worked so far. Weird. This way at least I don't have to stay on line for the whole play session.

Any thoughts on why this might be? Obviously the problem isn't totally Cerberus for me (I have auto-connect disabled). I also have ME@ as an exception in my firewall settings.

Yes I was abple to play offline, from the 29th when I first installed ME2, up until connecting to Cerberus on the 9th for the first time since then, to download the Cerberus Armour DLC. After that I couldnt play offline anymore unless I replace the ini file.

How in the hell did this slip through the testing phase anyways? Or did Bioware/EA did this on purpose?

Why can't I access my game offline, what a bunch of bull....sorry to come off so strong, because I haven't been able to play in the last couple of days because of this sh!tty issue.

Again, on the 360 version...Bioware, please fix this crap.

Did you have Zaeed and Normandy Crash site installed before the 29th? If so, was the content available when you were playing offline?

If it allows me to resume playing my legal game at last, yes please. Seeing as EA seems to be happy with it gathering dust on my shelf... Ooh, pretty pictures!

Maybe they're just quietly going to release a patch that happens to fix the problem and never mention it again.

I can imagine it is a little embarrassing for them, selling a title as huge as this one and subsequently rendering it unplayable.

EDIT: Then again, maybe they think we should be embarassed at not having dedicated internet connections everywhere and they don't see the problem. <_<

The problem and why I doubt this is ever going to be fully fixed is that these days most people do indeed have the ability to stay logged in permanently, so for the majority of players this won't ever be an issue. Of the people who do try to play offline only a fraction seem to have this problem. Of those people only a fraction will complain to EA - some either won't bother because they know EA customer support is useless or because they never complain about anything. So lets say they sold 2 million copies, and only 10.000 people complain about this particular problem. That leaves 1.990.900 people for whom the game is apparently 'working as intended'.

No, for EA to notice anything is wrong you need to kick up a major ****storm first, like the one that followed the release of Spore with its limited-installs DRM. And even that didn't really make that much of an impact, as they still happily employ the same DRM in their own digital store. Taken from the Mass Effect 2 FAQ:

What sort of DRM will Mass Effect 2 employ?
Mass Effect 2
will require a unique CD key to install on PC, and then you must
have the disc in the tray to play the game. Additionally if you
registered for the Cerberus Network, you must have an EA account to
register your game too. If you purchased the digital version on
PC, you will be able to install the game 5 times

Bottomline, EA does as EA please. <_<

[*]
As for the fix, I use it myself and it's working great. I don't have to worry about connection problems and I can play my singleplayer game as intended: OFFLINE all the time.
I'll periodically check in for PM's, so you should at least get a response within 24 hours. If not I may have missed your message. In that case just /bump your PM. =]

*Sigh* You're right, of course. Thankfully there are workarounds, and I'm going to use this one with a clear conscience.

I prefer owning games that I can still play one day while I'm plugged into the matrix, when EA is owned by Apple or the government and the Bioware servers are all defunct relics of a distant past.

Yeah, I was exchanging e-mails with an EA tech support, who, in the end offered absolutely no useful advice.  Not sure he even understood what I was asking.  (At one point, he seemed to think I had ME2 on X-box).  He ended up telling me this is the way it's supposed to be.  .

The last message I received:

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support.

I am sorry for the previous mail received.
(this was the one where he was telling me what to do with my x-box....)

I would like to inform you that it doesn't authenticate permanently as it only requires to get the additional content in your game as it can be played offline as well but but the additional contents can be available only when you are connected to internet as it depends upon the policy's maintained for the game.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reply to this email.

Thank you, (Tech person name)

I refuse to believe this is the way it's supposed to be.

thread bump.

have the standard retail game disk, (I say standard but still paid the way overinflated price for it) played the game through (no DLC) to end, then installed all DLC available to me: Zaeed, Crash site, Blood dragon armour & Cerberus armour. Started playing while still online to make sure everything installed was all nice and happy there on hdd. got past med facility (where you get rebuilt) to the point you can first access the armour locker dragon & cerberus armour all there and looking very nice. At this point i was satisfied everything was in order and ended the game, un plugged the internet connection & took my comp back upstairs, only to find none of said mentioned DLC can be autherised without being connected to internet. WTFS.

why is the DLC not handled as it is on DA:O? Now I cant actually play my game without dragging my comp downstairs, setting it up, starting ME2 online to authorize the DLC, and then..... bugger still doesnt solve the problem cos i gotta turn the comp back off to bring back upstairs.

Miriel Amarinth I'm Pm'ing you for that fix now... thanx in advance for the effort even if it dont work for me.

That sentence is so derailed it's almost funny. Gotta love customer service reps who have no clue what they're talking about...
