At the same time when it come to rebuilding the wardens he makes a ton of sense because he seems to be a true believer in the Warden's mission, and while I'm not a big fan of his brand of humor, there's no denying that in a scrap there's no companion I'd reather have at my back (aside from perhaps Leliana if we're in love). If there is a thing that must be done Oghren will see it done or die trying; that sort of devotion to duty, and doing the right thing, should never be discounted. He's not in it to get rich or to be honored or to get some nookie, he's in it to kill every last mother****ing darkspawn on the planet and he's not going to stop until that task is done or he lies dead. For my main characters this is a point of harmony (I'm not normally in favor of genocide, but in the case of the darkspawn I make an exception).
At first I didn't see this common purpose that we shared, but in a high stress environemnt it's easy to see my extremely polished character overlooking Oghren's lack of social graces, and so much of being friends in real life is proximity and situation (this is especailly true of kids, but remains true as an adult, as an example, I was staff on a presidential campaign and the commonality of our cause allowed those of us who were on the campaign to overlook social flaws in each other that would in a casual setting kept many us from being friends, but after going through the campaign we remain fast friends because after a fasion we fought for each other and our cause). It's hard not to like someone who pours their heart into doing something that you are also wholly invested in. I see how if your warden wasn't too excited about shouldering the burden of saving the world Oghren might be a drag if you didn't like his humor.
In any event cheers to Oghren beign the companion.

EDIT: I saw someone argue about talent assignments for lack of skills. Either continue the current level design of the Dog with only 1 talent point every couple levels, or add another set of talents. The classes are suppose to be getting new talents. I seriously doubt adding 4 more to the Dog would tax the developers.

I think Dog will be back in addition to Oghren or Alistair, after all, the real expense to bringing back a character is paying the voice actor, they can use the same barks, whines, and yelps from the previous game for Dog
A reasonable point... but to tie in your point with another post; Claudia Black is also doing voice acting work on Mass Effect 2 (Quarian Admiral Xen). Without stepping into the realm of spoilers; its safe to speculate that this will be a reoccurring role. I have to wonder if Bioware does not have a long term contract with her (and many others) for voice acting work.
And speaking of voice actors... I am envious of the Bioware team after looking over the amazing talent that they have been able to work with over the years. Toss in a role for Shatner somewhere along the line and my envy will know no bounds.

Actually, I kind of hope we can get Dog like a Ranger's summon. I am just not hopeful about it.

I`d like this myself, with increased difficulty settings to accommodate the extra group member.

Actually, it still needs a fair amount of writing. I don't expect long soliloquies from Dog, so the people he's "talking" with need lines written for them, translated to other languages, and read by the various voice actors. Dog would be only about half as much as someone like Oghren, but still that could be quite a bit.dark-lauron wrote...
Well, if they DO add dog, it's not like they need a lot of writing anyway. The sound is already there, as is the model. They just need to add some lines with the PC and banters with new member. So they could EASILY add Dog PLUS another member.
Note : easily is relative.

How do they explain it, if you didn't do the ritual? she seduced another grey wardern? yet that's possiblie but doesn't explain why your PC died if you didn't take the ritual. Also it's not that easy to seduce a grey warden, even Allister and Morrgian didn't get along

Actually, if your PC romances Morrigan, whether or not you do the ritual, she's preggers.
And I think it's a given to most here that 'canon' for DA2 will be the Dark Ritual.

I would definitely like Dog to be around too, even if he's too old or injured to fight. TBH, I don't care much about any of the other characters disappearing. Leliana was for opening chests, and Wynne was for healing. I just hope that there are some interesting healing or rogue characters in the expansion.
Also, anyone else already feeling guilty about betraying their DAO love interest? It would be nice to stay faithful, but I can't imagine playing DAA without pursuing any of the new romances.

I doubt Awakaning will have such a moment, but ME2 had a very touching moment if you stayed faithfull... and in a pretty creative way.

It makes sense that Alistair wouldn't return as a playable character, but how will they explain the situation if you didn't make him king? I made Anora queen and chose to keep Alistair to myself to help rebuild the Grey Wardens. I hope they don't just have him leave on some silly Grey Warden errand! I think most people who made Anora queen did so because they're attached to Alistair, and it would suck to not even have him appear in cameos b/c he's not king!

But what if you picked Allister to not be king. In all the arugment's I have seen, some people are not grasping the concent of what if you did the ritual and made Anora King and she killed Allister. What if you never had Allister King at all
Does that get erased and they forced a situation where he's back from the grave. It's only a few months away, I wish they would release more details other then coming soon

I think Morrigans ritual was cool enough of a plot point to pick up in the expansion or DA2.

I was meaning to ask that same question, "what if you never had Allistair King at all" but in my case he didn't actually die. I guess either way poses its own problems (if he's dead, it explains his absence, but then he can't appear in any cameos as King or otherwise).
I was thinking that if he's just an ordinary Grey Warden he could have mostly the same dialogue with less fancy armor on, but I was forgetting that he could just be plain dead.
I'm a bit nervous that they'll be able to pull this off well, considering they already messed up plenty Alistair dialogue in DAO, where he acts like King even when he isn't.
Oh well; I guess the game will be good regardless! If I get too fed up with inconsistencies I can always just start a new warden

I am hoping they will allow about three to four different opening with who you encounter based on the choices you made. For example, if you did not do the ritual and Allister killed the arch demon and died. It's going convince me that he poofs up in the awaking without a scratch on him and says some magic brought him back...Nice he's back, weak way he was brought back
Though we were only showed one clip, this one happended to have Allister in it. Though most forget he could be in your party if you allowed Anora to be Queen, and Allister lived as a normal grey warden. Though the final choice was one of the hardest choices
Simply seeking more details on that, I saw a video clip of another companion and I groaned. As much as I'd like to find out about new companions. I'm rather more interested in what happended to the post game save, they said they would be releasing more details as the date was planned to go..
Yet nothing other then the new companion whos a mage

Sigh, theres already two+ threads on this, and. Let me catch you up...
1. Technically we don't know for sure, although Oghren does seem the most likley. Some people are nuts and won't even acknowledge that Oghren is Oghren in the videos.
2. Many range from loving to being cool with Oghren and many range from disliking to hating Oghren. Although middle ground seems to be rare.
3. Oghren is currently standing strong in the #4 postition in the biggest "what character do you want in the expansion list" actually quite high above #5 who is Zevran and very high compared to everyone else. Oghren is also the only non-romancible character in the top most disired. So that says something.
4. People range from thinking he's shallow to fairly deep. I'm in the middle.
5. Chances are we will not see a romancible character return or a character easy to kill for the same reasons Ashley, Kaiden, and Wrex did not appear in ME2.
6. There is debait over if you even can kill him.SOme say you can't, some say you can (although no one's done it) the guide says you can, but the guide also sucks.
7. Your best bet is to trust bioware. If it's NOT Oghren, it's not Oghren. If it's Oghren, heres a chance for bioware to make him deeper and more then a comic relief. So everyone wins except people who DON'T like Oghren and their not people, but rather reptilians trying to sway people away from laughing so crushing depression can overcome humanity and they can rule the world!.
There your all caught up.
Please don't put Mass Effect 2 spoilers in the Dragon Age forums.
